Back to My Worst Birthday and Starting Anew
Chapter 138 A Needle of Gold
Charmaine stood still; her gaze narrowing.
So, this is how Satan recognizes people. He judges based on their clothes and appearance.
Isn’t that a bit hasty?
However, she couldn’t refute it at all.
Isn’t this considered as digging my own grave?
“Charmaine, don’t you dare to touch him like this in front of me!”

Freya couldn’t take it anymore. Seeing their heads almost touching, she marched forward with fury in her eyes, reaching out to push Charmaine aside.
In an instant, a cold glint flashed in Charmaine’s eyes, and she was ready to act, but before her hand could even move. Emyr’s fingers snapped around Freya’s elbow.
“Enough. Don’t make a fool of yourself in front of Master Field!” he said coldly.
Freya froze, her hand immobilized. She still wanted to argue, but the anger on Emyr’s face forced her to give up.
“Emyr, I’m only letting this slide because of you, but if she dares to do this again, I won’t hold back!”
Freya had endured Charmaine long enough. She was tired of seeing how easily this useless maid had wrapped Emyr around her finger.
Once Basil fixed Emyr’s legs, we’ll no longer need her as a maid. Then, I can finally have the perfect opportunity to get rid of her once and for all.
Freya yanked her arm free, fuming, but this time, she sat down beside Emyr, her eyes sharp as she kept her gaze locked on Charmaine.
Her intention was clear. If Charmaine dares to cross any lines again, I won’t hold back.
Charmaine didn’t even glance in her direction. Her indifference to Freya’s hostility was almost palpable.. Emyr turned his attention back to Basil, his tone calm but carrying an edge. “Thank you for answering my invitation. I’m asking for a favor today. I hope Master Field can help me to treat these legs.”
“Basil” leaned back on the couch, hands folded in front of him, his thumb idly circling as he considered the
request.
After a long pause, he spoke, his voice steady, “I came to Eragos for personal matters. I wasn’t planning on staying long.
Emyr squinted his eyes slightly, sensing the hesitation. “If Master Field has concerns, feel free to speak. I won’t hold it against you.”
“Basil” sighed and continued, “I’ve already retired in peace. I have no interest in worldly matters anymore. Mr. Cross, you should look elsewhere for help.

Freya grew frantic. “No, Master Field, you can’t leave! Please, I beg you, help Emyr with his illness. No matter the cost, no matter the conditions, I’ll agree to anything!”
She rushed in front of “Basil“, the arrogance she’d worn so confidently earlier now replaced by pleading humility. Her voice trembled with sincerity. “A healer’s heart is compassionate. Emyr is so talented; how can he let something as trivial as his legs hold him back for the rest of his life? Please, Master Field, help him!”
“Basil” paused. He studied Freya’s earnest plea as though moved by her words.
“Ms. White…”
After inhaling deeply. “Basil” seemed to soften. “Since you’re so sincere, I’ll give it a try.”
Turning to Emyr, he added, “Mr. Cross, you have such a dedicated friend like Ms. White. I must say, I envy you.”
Hearing this. Freya’s face lit up with joy, her gaze turning toward Emyr with a deep, affectionate look. “For Emyr, anything is worth it.”
Observing the scene, Charmaine almost let out a laugh.
This Master Field” is too easy to sway!
“Basil” sat back down on the couch as if carefully considering his next words. “However, I made an oath to my fellow practitioners that I wouldn’t treat anyone unless it’s an extraordinary circumstance…
After a moment’s reflection, he continued, “How about this? I will donate Mr. Cross’s consultation fee to Beacon Medical Research Department under my name to contribute to national medical research. That way, it won’t violate my vow.”
Emyr inquired. “Name your price. Master Field.
“Basil” replied firmly, “One hundred.”
Freya couldn’t help but laugh, her voice dripping with disbelief. “Master Field, you’ve been in retirement too long, haven’t you? A hundred dollars isn’t going to get us much these days. I’ll give you 10 million dollars
instead.
“Basil” shook his head, his expression unmoved. “One hundred for one needle. So, it will be 100 pounds of gold.”
The room went silent for a moment, then a few gasps of shock broke the stillness. Even Freya was rendered speechless, staring in stunned disbelief.
“How much?” she stammered.
She’d mocked him for his low price carlier, but now, it felt like she’d been hit with a ton of bricks,
Charmaine, ever the cool observer, began to calculate aloud, a mocking smile curling on her lips. “A hundred pounds! If we go by the current gold price… Master Field, isn’t that a bit too much for one needle?”
Is a single needle worth tens of millions? Why doesn’t he go to the bank and print his own money?
