Milo had just stepped out of Jonah’s study, still processing the shocking news he’d overheard about
Bennett.
Only now did he learn the truth that Bennett had taken out a massive loan before securing the construction project and had squandered millions on luxury. Now, he was drowning in debt, desperate to borrow money just to stay afloat.
Earlier, Leah had gone to the Read residence and returned with some of their belongings. She even delivered them straight to Zayn’s room. How could Milo not know about what happened?
His expression turned grim as he strode over to Leah. Lowering his voice, he confronted her. “Leah, Bennett brought this on himself. And now you expect Zayn to spend his money bailing him out?”
Caught red–handed, Leah flushed with embarrassment. Her emotions flared, a mix of anger and frustration. “Milo! How can you be like this? Do you expect me to just stand by and watch my father be left with no way out, with his hands and feet severed by those awful people?”
“And you? Haven’t you changed too?” Milo shot back, his gaze laced with disappointment. He took two steps back, trying to keep his emotions in check before finally asking, “Just because he’s your father,
doesn’t that mean we’re not real siblings?“?
Leah froze; his words hitting her like a thunderclap.
Fearful that his raised voice might attract attention, she quickly grabbed his arm and dragged him toward the back garden.
“Milo, I’m begging you. Please just help me this one last time,” she pleaded.
In an instant, tears streamed down her face. “I have no choice. He got down on his knees, Milo. He started hitting himself so hard! Milo and Zayn, you’re my family, but so is he!”
Her tears fell like a broken string of pearls, her voice brimming with helplessness and sorrow, “I know I shouldn’t drag the family into his mess. But, Milo, the company’s already helping me secure partnerships, right? Once I start earning money, no matter how long it takes, I’ll repay Zayn. Please … just help me this time!”
Milo stared at her tear–streaked face, but his heart felt numb.
He wasn’t sure when it had started, but the girl standing before him no longer felt like the sister he once knew.
He used to think she’d merely gone astray for a while, but now…
He couldn’t control his heart. He couldn’t believe in her again, not unconditionally.
“Fine. But remember you said this yourself.”
Milo pried her hand off his arm and said coldly, “Leah, don’t let me down again.”
“Milo, I swear I’ll pay it back. You have to believe me!” she called after him.
Milo turned and walked away.

Leah slowly wiped the tears from her eyes. Her face, once filled with sorrow, turned cold and expressionless.
Her gaze lingered on Milo’s retreating figure with a flicker of hatred flashing in her eyes.

Life was getting harder for Charmaine
In Eastlake, she had to deal with Satan.
There were also two followers she couldn’t get rid of at school.
Celeste clung to her like a devoted fan, treating her like some kind of lucky charm. Milo was even more absurd. He claimed that his actions had already been completed. He had successfully forced Jonah to abandon the South City project. Now, it was time for her to let go of the past and accept him as her third brother again.
He even dared to say, “Hey, you haven’t called my name in ages. I kind of miss it. Why don’t you say it once?”
Charmaine inhaled deeply as she heard this unreasonable request.
Her fair and delicate face remained composed, but her clear, water–like eyes were fixed on Milo, who had shamelessly leaned in close to her. Her gaze was cold, distant.
She tugged her lips into a mocking smile.
“What am I, a dog? Do you want me to bark on command?”
Milo, who had been joking just a second ago, immediately realized something was off. His grin faltered, and he quickly said, “No, no, I didn’t mean it like that. I was just…
”
“Oh, of course, Mr. Milo Nelson just makes a casual comment. A man whose high status lets him throw out commands whenever he pleases.”
Her voice grew colder, cutting deeper with each word. “You told me not to call your name, but now you asked me to call your name again.”
Charmaine’s mind traveled back to the day she first returned to the Nelsons.
She had stood in their lavish living room, nervous and out of place, starkly contrasting the family sitting comfortably on the sofa.
Perhaps it had been too long ago, but she couldn’t quite recall just how much courage it had taken to muster up before she took the initiative to call someone.
She just managed to say one sentence before Milo’s reaction crushed her. He had shot to his feet as if her words were poison, his voice dripping with disgust. “Shut up! I only have one sister, and that’s Leah. Don’t you dare call me brother!”
Milo hadn’t forgotten that moment either. His face stiffened, and any semblance of a smile vanished.
Frustration, regret, and shame twisted in his expression leaving him flustered.

He opened his mouth, struggling for words to make it right, “Charmaine, I didn’t mean it that way. Don’t be mad. If you don’t want to say it, then just don’t … ”
“See, you’re giving me orders again. Tell me why shouldn’t I be mad?”
