Emyr raised his hand slightly as if to suppress the urge to pinch her in frustration.

Charmaine quickly covered her neck. “Mr. Emyr, have mercy! Let me handle this myself!”
He snorted coldly. “If I have mercy, I’ll have even more reason to pinch you!”
Knowing she was in the wrong, Charmaine balled her fists and waved them lightly, her tone indignant but resigned. “Fine! I was wrong. I underestimated your wisdom and courage. How could I have been fooled by Freya’s cheap tricks? Clearly, she’s no match for you
Emyr glanced at her, noting how her flattery seemed to improve by the day.
He composed himself, his deep eyes locking onto hers as if he could see right through her.
Without blinking, he said, “When you looked at that maid being unjustly treated, it wasn’t her you were sympathizing with. It was your past self.”
His certainty left Charmaine slightly stunned.
Slowly, she lowered her hands, a faint self–deprecating smile forming on her lips.
“Maybe,” she admitted softly. “But it’s not sympathy. I just feel like a fool.”
Her voice turned heavier. “Getting hurt again and again yet still waiting and hoping–thinking they’d see me, give me a bit of warmth. Foolish, right?
“But that’s just it–people who refuse to see you will never see you.”
Emyr’s gaze darkened slightly at her dim expression.
After a moment of thought, he spoke in an unusually comforting tone, a rare attempt to console her. “Don’t dwell on the past. Being foolish once doesn’t mean you’ll be foolish forever.”
Charmaine “who died early in her past life because she was foolish” Nelson blinked, then gave him a flat look.
Wow. Thanks. I really appreciate it.
Seeing her mood lighten slightly, Emyr’s expression shifted, and he suddenly remembered something. “In the living room earlier, you heard everything Freya said, didn’t you?”
Charmaine was startled. “You knew I was already back?”
As soon as Charmaine said it, she realized how ridiculous it sounded. This was Emyr–someone who could sense her approach in the jungle with his eyes closed from 65 feet away.
Emyr’s gaze turned meaningful. “What do you think about asking Basil to treat me?”
Charmaine blinked, momentarily puzzled.
Wasn’t that the obvious.course of action? What was there to think about?

Chapter 132 Knee–Jerk Reaction
A faint smile appeared on her lips, a playful glint in her eyes.
“Oh, Mr. Emyr, are you scared someone else might take over my job and make me angry?”
Emyr frowned.
That was not exactly what he meant, but now that she had said it, it sounded plausible enough.
Still, the word scared made him scoff internally.
Scared? Him? Of Charmaine? Ridiculous.
Even so, he did not refute her statement, which amounted to a subtle acknowledgment.

Charmaine’s smile grew wider, almost mischievous. “Hehe, if someone can help lighten my load, I’d be thrilled.”
What I can’t say, she thought to herself, is that I wasn’t sure what to do, so I asked the old man for help.
Emyr’s eyes narrowed, his sharp gaze pinning her in place. Then he sneered coldly. “Charmaine, you’re shirking your responsibility.”
Her eyes widened in disbelief.
“I am not!”
Yet, the way he stared her down made her falter. Not wanting to provoke him further, she softened her tone and tried to appease him. “I’m just happy for you, Mr. Emyr. Honestly, I’d love to personally help heal your leg, but if there’s a more skilled doctor who can make you stand up sooner, that would make me. happy too!”
Emyr’s gaze lingered on her, deep and unreadable. “You’d better remember,” he said quietly, his tone laced with an unspoken threat, “you owe me for this. If you can’t heal my leg, you’ll stay by my side and make up
for it.”
Charmaine nodded quickly, eager to pacify him. “Yes, yes, Mr. Emyr. You are absolutely right.”
Indeed, Emyr was a relentless capitalist, never missing a chance to take advantage.
After completing what she had to do, did she really want to deal with him further?
No way.
Charmaine quickly came up with an excuse and slipped away, practically fleeing.
Emyr watched her retreating figure, her pace so hurried it was as if she were being chased by a pack of dogs. He let out a silent, cold snort of amusement.
Just as he was about to maneuver his wheelchair, his wrist brushed against his knee, triggering an
instinctive knee–jerk reaction.
He froze. For a moment, he didn’t move.
He was certain he had felt something–just the slightes change, but it was undeniable
