Freya was utterly terrified, too scared to cry or utter another word to Emyr, fearing she might provoke the unpredictable man before her.
Alfred responded respectfully, “Yes, Sir,” before stepping away to carry out the orders.
Without sparing anyone another glance, Emyr turned and went upstairs.
The oppressive atmosphere in the living room gradually eased after his departure.
Even Kane let out a breath, patting his chest. “That’s the first time I’ve seen Emyr so furious with Freya.”
Charmaine muttered under her breath, “This doesn’t even compare to the first time she stepped into the cottage, and he nearly choked her. That was way scarier
Kane rubbed his chin, then suddenly lit up with excitement.
“I get it! Emyr’s helping you get revenge, Chara! Oh wow, Emyr is so thoughtful. I’m impressed!”
Charmaine was at a loss for words.
In that moment, she finally understood why Kane could sail through relationships so effortlessly, with
every ex–girlfriend singing his praises even after a breakup.
With his romanticized imagination, who wouldn’t fall for him?
Apparently, the Cross family maintained balance well–intelligence passed to Emyr, emotional intelligence handed to Kane.
Meanwhile, the Nelsons were an utter mess, with Valdas failing judgment at the top and Milo’s scattered thoughts at the bottom. A true disaster.
“No way! Kane, are you out of your mind? Have you been tricked by Charmaine?” Freya snapped, trying to reassert herself in Emyr’s absence.
Kane, already annoyed with her constant attitude, had to patience left. Every time she visited, she acted like the lady of the house. If it were not for how she used to keep their grandfather happy, he would not have tolerated her at all.
He stuck his tongue out at her and, mimicking Emyr’s tone, replied coolly, “What does this have to do with you?”
Freya’s face turned red with fury, her eyes practically bulging. “Ah, you’re driving me insane!”
Before she could finish, Alfred appeared, his tone steady as he said, “The servants are waiting at the door. Ms. Freya, please come with me.”
Freya bit her lip, casting Charmaine a fierce, disdainful glare before reluctantly following Alfred out.
Moments later, Charmaine heard the cries of a maid and Freya’s disgusted, angry scolding echoing from
outside.
Frowning, Charmaine headed upstairs.

She knocked on the door to the study, and upon hearing the man inside respond, she pushed it open.
Emyr was on the extended terrace, his expression blank as he watched Freya downstairs, arrogantly ordering Alfred to remove the identified maid.
Charmaine’s voice was low, carrying a subtle hoarseness as she spoke. “She’s innocent.”
It was painfully obvious–only someone blind would miss Freya’s dismissive attitude, treating the maid as if she were nothing more than a minor inconvenience.
“I know,” Emyr replied evenly.
Charmaine’s fists clenched. “Then why let Alfred drive her away? She’s the one in charge of the maids near Little Fish’s side. Freya wouldn’t dare go near the crocodile pond, so how could she have encountered her?”
It was rare to see Charmaine so emotionally stirred, her frustration evident.
Emyr frowned slightly, turning his wheelchair toward her.
For a fleeting moment, her eyes betrayed a sense of panic and loss, but she quickly turned away, masking her emotions as if nothing had happened.
Emyr was momentarily surprised.
“You … ”
“Sir.”
Before he could continue, Tad walked in, holding a report. “The information department discovered that the son of Margie from the kitchen has had recent transactions with Ms. White.”
“Understood,” Emyr said coldly. “Have Alfred take care of it.”
“Yes, sir,” Tad replied with a nod.
As he straightened, Tad could not help but notice the subtle tension between the two on the terrace.
He hesitated for a moment, then excused himself, leaving them alone once more.
Emyr caught the unmistakable surprise and regret flicker across Charmaine’s face.
His thin lips curled into a cold smirk as he let out a soft chuckle. “What’s the matter? Did you think I’d carelessly punish the innocent maid and already start cursing me in your head?”
Charmaine blurted out, “I didn’t!”
He raised an eyebrow, his stare dripping with disbelief.
Charmaine pouted. “I only said one thing”
“What is it?”
Her instinct kicked in, and she took two cautious steps back. “Ah, do you really want to know? I didn’t even say it out loud. Are you trying to nick a fight just to strangle me?”
