Back to My Worst Birthday and Starting Anew
Chapter 116 The Meds
Charmaine didn’t have a chance to stop him. “Emyr, don’t-”
That towel hasn’t even been washed yet!
As soon as the cool fabric brushed against his face, Emyr immediately felt a sense of relief.
Finished
He glanced up at Charmaine, whose expression was a mix of surprise and something else. “I just wanted to wipe my sweat. Is there an issue?”
Charmaine quickly shut her mouth, which had opened in shock. “N–no problem.”
After all, he’d already used it. If she pointed out that the towel had touched her skin, it might spark an argument she wasn’t ready to have.
It was best if she kept that to herself.
Emyr wiped his face a couple more times before tossing the towel back at her. “The towel wasn’t wrung out before you came out.”
His eyes narrowed, a playful tone creeping into his voice. “Are you worried about me?”
Charmaine simply stared at him, her mouth opening and closing, but she chose to remain silent.
She got up and went to fetch a basin of water, her movements steady as she began to carefully wipe him down again.
Emyr watched her in silence, his eyes following the meticulous way she wiped his arms, making sure not to miss a single detail.
Earlier, she had rushed in with her hair loosely pinned behind her ears, strands of it falling around her face in a gentle cascade. She wore thin nightwear that clung to her body, tracing the graceful outline of her form.
For the first time, Emyr saw her hair down, and it made her face look even more delicate than before, her small features accentuated. Her skin had a soft, pale glow, and her eyes held a calm, nurturing quality that he couldn’t ignore.
Without realizing it, his gaze softened, and a warmth filled his eyes as he looked at her.
“You saved me again.”
Charmaine glanced down as she lifted the hem of his nightshirt to reveal his toned abdomen. Her expression was calm, unfazed.
“There will be a next time.”
A small, almost indifferent smile played at the corners of Emyr’s lips. His gaze shifted to the syringe on the nightstand, and he let out a bitter chuckle. “The meds … They’re starting to lose their effect.”
Charmaine paused for a moment before resuming her task. “Once you’re better, we won’t need these anymore.”
Emyr’s eyes narrowed, locking with hers. “You’re that confident?”

Chapter 116 The Meds
“Emyr, I’ll do my best to cure you.”
A smirk tugged at Emyr’s lips. “Alright.”
He didn’t push her away this time.
Charmaine smiled back, her expression soft and amused.
Finished
She finished wiping off the last traces of sweat, then found him a fresh nightshirt and helped him change. As for the pants…
She turned her back to him. “You can handle the rest. I won’t peek.”
Emyr grunted, and the rustling of fabric filled the air.
But Charmaine quickly noticed something…
There was a reflection on the large window in the room. She could see Emyr’s long legs as he removed his pants, and further up…
Immediately, Charmaine lowered her head, pretending to inspect the syringe on the nightstand to distract herself.
She picked up a packet of medication and examined it out of curiosity.
But the packaging was completely blank, no labels, no information.
Charmaine brought the packet to her nose and sniffed it lightly.
Her brow furrowed.
“What are you doing?”
She turned toward Emyr. “Who prescribed this painkiller for you?”
Emyr glanced at her briefly. “Freya’s medical team.”
“The doctor who gave you the injection … Is he from her team too?”
“Yes. We’ve tried many options, but this painkiller was the only one that worked. It’s the same as the one you saw in the medical room earlier. After the power outage, they replaced it with a new batch.”
Emyr noticed the subtle change in her expression. “What’s wrong?”
Charmaine shook her head. “Nothing. I just wanted to get it tested. Aside from needle treatment, I need to give you some meds as well. Get your people to test it first. Once they confirm it’s safe, you can take it.”
Emyr studied her serious expression, his gaze unwavering. “Alright.”
Late that night, the Reads‘ study remained brightly lit.
Bennett slammed the glass of milk Sophie had brought him onto the floor.
Sophie screamed in surprise covering her face “Ah!”
