Chapter 114 Should’ve Worked
Charmaine was just about to administer the needle when Freya suddenly pushed her aside.
“The painkiller’s here!” Freya announced, her voice full of urgency.

Before Charmaine could steady herself, she collided with the nightstand, watching as Freya hurriedly ordered the doctor to inject the medication into Emyr’s body.
“All done. After this shot, you should feel much better, Emyr,” Freya said, turning her attention to Charmaine with a mocking smile. “You really don’t know your place, do you? Emyr doesn’t need any of that nonsense!”
Charmaine stayed silent, rising to her feet and quietly stepping aside.
She decided to wait until Emyr felt better before returning to her room.
However, ten minutes passed, and Emyr’s condition showed no signs of improvement. If anything, his pain seemed to intensify, causing his body to jerk uncontrollably.
Alfred’s voice cracked as he spoke, “Mr. Emyr, why isn’t the pain letting up?”
Freya’s voice turned sharp as she glared at the doctor. “What’s going on? Did you mix up the medication?”
The doctor appeared confused. “The medication is correct. We’re not sure why it isn’t working this time.”
Charmaine took a deep breath. “Step aside. Let me handle this.”
Freya acted as though Charmaine had said something absurd, grabbing her arm to stop her from approaching. “What? You’re just a maid. What makes you think you can-”
“Last time, I kept Emyr safe while you could only manage to give him painkillers and nothing else!” Charmaine snapped back.
With swift motion, Charmaine twisted Freya’s arm behind her, effortlessly pushing her to the ground.
Freya stared up at her, unable to comprehend how the woman who had just knocked her down stood over her, tall and unyielding.
Fury burned in Freya’s chest, her hands clenched into fists. “Charmaine, you’d better watch out. If Emyr doesn’t get better, you’ll pay for this!”
Charmaine ignored her, signaling for Tad to adjust Emyr’s position. Without a second thought, she took out the needles and began needling his acupoints.
The pain had been ongoing for too long, and his muscles were so tight that the silver needles struggled to break through.
“Emyr, relax,” Charmaine murmured, gently pressing her palm to his forehead. “Relax. It’ll be over soon.”
Freya, now standing by the bed, glared at Charmaine with seething hatred, watching her every move with suspicion.
How could Emyr possibly hear her?

Struggling, he forced his eyes open, his blurry vision searching for her.
He heard her words clearly now. Despite the pain coursing through him, he exhaled slowly, trying to control the involuntary spasms in his body.
Charmaine noticed his attempt to cooperate and quickly seized the opportunity. With precision, she drove the silver needles into key pressure points along his legs.
Everyone held their breath as time seemed to freeze. Gradually, Emyr’s twitching began to subside…
Tad’s face lit up with hope. “Ms. Nelson, Mr. Emyr isn’t tensing up anymore.”
Alfred, his eyes brimming with relief, asked, “Mr. Emyr, is the pain gone?”
Charmaine didn’t stop. She continued inserting silver needles into other acupoints.
“I’ve alleviated some of the tension, but full recovery will take time,” she explained, her gaze sweeping over the room. “Everyone else, please leave.”
“Of course, of course,” Alfred replied, nearly ecstatic. “Thank goodness Ms. Nelson is here to help Mr. Emyr! Without her, Mr. Emyr would never have made it through this … I’ll go and pray!”
Alfred hurriedly ushered Freya and the doctors out of the room, leading them downstairs for a break.
Freya’s heart burned with jealousy and resentment. But seeing Emyr’s breathing gradually calm, she spun on her heel and stormed off, unable to stand the sight any longer.
Once Alfred had left the room, Freya whirled around and slapped the doctor across the face.
“You worthless fool! You couldn’t even get the painkiller right!”
The doctor rubbed his cheek, eyes brimming with shame. “Ms. White, we double–checked the medication. It should have worked. The only explanation is
Freya’s eyes widened in fury. “What?”
“The possibility we mentioned earlier … Mr. Emyr’s body may have developed a resistance to the painkillers after repeated use. They no longer have any effect. We should’ve increased the dosage and given him more shots earlier-”
