Charmaine furrowed her brow slightly. “It seems like you’ve always been on top, with Veronica trailing behind, hasn’t it?”
Celeste nodded sharply, her frustration building. “Definitely! Veronica might be from the Jameses, but she’s never really been part of the main family. For years, she’s only gotten by thanks to my parents‘ support. Who knows how she managed to worm her way into the main family now, acting all high and mighty. And now, she’s teamed up with Leah!”
The more Celeste spoke, the angrier she became.
“After all the help my family has given her, she’s turned her back on us and is now conspiring with Leah to sabotage me! She won’t get away with it!”
Charmaine raised an eyebrow, surprised by this new information.
She remembered seeing Veronica at the welcome banquet for Keon but hadn’t paid much attention at the time.
A shadow crossed her expression as she glanced at Celeste, whose anger was barely contained. “You want me to work with you, but why should I trust you?”
Celeste shot back without hesitation, “If you can trust Milo, why can’t you trust me? Right now, I really want to take down those two!”
Charmaine gave a thoughtful nod, considering her words. “You do make a valid point.
“There’s something I need from you.”
“Tell me what you need. I really need to get back at Leah right now. I can’t wait anymore!”
Charmaine smirked, amused at how eager Celeste always was, whether she was causing trouble for Leah or plotting her revenge.
Leaning back in her chair, she teased, “I have my own plans. You’re the type who just wants to tear people down. That’s not really my style. Are you sure you want to go down this path?”
Celeste’s eyes widened as she clenched her fists, determined. “As long as those two get what’s coming to them, I’d do anything it takes!”
Charmaine raised an eyebrow, a little taken aback. That’s some determination.
No wonder Milo and Celeste are such valuable assets to Leah. They act without thinking.
Charmaine rubbed her temples, a hint of exhaustion showing on her face. “Go talk to your father. Get him to compete with the Reads for the South City project.”
Celeste opened her mouth to argue, but Charmaine cut her off. “Don’t ask why.”
After a brief hesitation, Celeste gave a firm nod. “Alright, I’ll do it.”
Charmaine gave a small smile, pleased with her response. “I’ll be waiting for good news.”

Later, when Milo arrived at the office, he found out that Jonah was out handling some business. He had no choice but to head home and wait.
At dinner time, the Nelson family gathered around the table.
Milo was still planning to find a chance to speak with Jonah, but before they could start the meal, Willard brought up the South City project.
“We need to take this project seriously,” Willard said. “The development of South City will shape Eragos‘ future for the next two or three decades. If we win this project, we’ll recover from our past losses.”
Jonah nodded in agreement. “The bid is already in the works. With Mr. Read’s help, our chances are looking good.”
Olympia smiled, proud. “It’s all thanks to Leah. If she hadn’t fought for this deal with Mr. Read, things wouldn’t be going so smoothly.”
Leah waved her hand modestly. “It was really Dad and Jonah. I didn’t do much.”
Olympia held Leah’s hand, smiling warmly. “Oh, sweetie, without you, we wouldn’t have gotten the bid in time.”
The elderly woman nodded approvingly. “Leah’s a good girl. She always keeps the family’s interests at heart.”
Even Willard joined in, saying, “Once we win the bid, Leah, I’ll grant you a wish. What do you want?”
Surrounded by the praise of the Nelson family, Leah’s heart swelled with pride.
She already knew exactly what she would ask for once the deal was done.
In the midst of this warm atmosphere, Milo suddenly interrupted with a comment that felt like a cold splash of water on everyone. “Dad, Emyr, we can’t participate in this project.”
Immediately, the room went silent. It was as though someone had doused the flames with ice water.
Leah’s face drained of color, and she shot Milo a sharp, irritated glance.
“Milo, what are you talking about? Why would you bring this up?” Valda, who usually doted on him, asked gently.
Milo remained firm, repeating, “We can’t get involved in this project. It’s going to end badly.”
The table fell into an uncomfortable silence as everyone’s expressions turned serious. Jonah, who knew Milo well, asked, “Milo, do you know something we don’t? Or did you hear something?”
