Back to My Worst Birthday and Starting Anew
Chapter 104 No More Tricks to Play
Charmaine stood in stunned silence.
What on earth is happening? Did he wake up on the wrong side of the bed?
“Didn’t you say you were having dinner out tonight? It’s so early; you’re done eating already?”
Emyr’s expression darkened further. “I lost my appetite.”
Charmaine awkwardly scratched her nose, unsure of how to respond. “I see.”

She couldn’t help but wonder what had made Emyr so upset. He practically radiated anger the second he walked through the door.
His icy stare shifted from Charmaine to Milo, still standing stiffly in the room. “Mr. Milo, what brings you here?”
That tone … It sounded exactly like the one she’d used with Milo moments ago.
Which one of us is influencing the other?
Milo straightened up and walked forward. “I was just looking for my sister. Do you take an interest in my family matters as well?”
“I don’t recall your sister living here at the Cross residence,” Emyr retorted with a mocking smile.
“What …”
Charmaine, sensing things were about to escalate, quickly intervened. “Milo, just go home.”
Milo clenched his fists, his frustration evident. He wanted to snap back, but the words got stuck in his throat.
Grabbing Charmaine’s arm, he pulled her a few steps away, his voice low and simmering with anger. “Are you really going to stay by Emyr’s side?”
“I think this place is fine,” Charmaine responded.
“Fine.” His tone was sharp. “If you like him so much… If there’s anything you need, just ask. I’ll help however I can.”
With that, he shot a glare at Emyr before storming off.
Charmaine stood there, a mixture of anger and confusion swirling in her chest.
Who said I like that Satan?
Milo’s thoughts are more toxic than I realized!
Back at the Nelsons‘ house, Milo couldn’t stop replaying Charmaine’s painful recounting of her past. The cold expression she wore as she spoke stuck with him.
His heart felt heavy.
He had always been lucky enough to grow up in a family where love and care were abundant, but

What troubled him most was that Leah had kept all of Charmaine’s childhood possessions. They had only uncovered the truth about the baby mix–up two years ago,
Could it be that… ?
Milo snapped out of his thoughts as he opened the door to his room.
The room was dim, and when he flicked the light on, he found Leah sitting in his favorite chair, her face streaked with tears, her makeup completely ruined.
“Milo …”
Her voice was barely audible, a faint whisper.
Milo’s stomach churned. It felt like everything inside him had been in turmoil for ages. Without a second thought, he turned to leave.
Leah’s eyes widened in panic. She quickly jumped out of the chair, but her haste caused her to lose balance. She fell hard onto the floor with a loud crash.
Milo couldn’t ignore it. He turned to see Leah, bruised on her forehead, struggling to get up. She rushed toward him and grabbed his leg.
“No, Milo, please, don’t leave me!” She sobbed, her voice broken.
Leah was terrified.
She had found out about Milo punching Daniel for Charmaine at school, and before she could confront him, a servant had whispered that Milo had taken a box from her room–one that contained Charmaine’s belongings.
The world seemed to crumble around her.
If Milo found those things… What if he discovered more?
She cautiously tested the waters with Willard and Olympia, wondering if Milo had gone to them. When she was certain he hadn’t, she let out a small sigh of relief.
Now, here she was, sitting and waiting, every minute dragging on like an eternity, her anxiety mounting.
Milo had never seen Leah look so helpless–tears clung to her lashes, and her makeup was a mess.
He froze, staring at her. The image of a small child nearly swept away by the ocean surf flashed in his mind.
But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t connect that image with the woman before him–the one clutching his leg, pleading for him to stay.
The tension in the room thickened, and outside, the servants‘ faint chatter drifted in.
Leah tensed, her back arched in fear. Milo, still gripping the door handle, slowly closed the door behind
him.
He gently pushed Leah away, sitting down on the floor.
His palm pressed against his eyes, as if trying to block her out. “Tell me. Where did these things come from?”
