Outside the operating room, Morris and Hank were waiting.
Since post–surgery observation was required, this was their sixth hour waiting by the door. Morris had brought his work reports here, and Steven and Leo were also present.
Steven spoke to Morris in a low voice, “Mr. Chivers, I checked with Mr. Simpson. That night, Lydia, covered in blood and whip marks, went to the entrance of Ebb & Flow to find him.
“The Dark Web Division reviewed the surveillance. It was clear that the footage had been erased initially, but our guys managed to recover the deleted scenes and found that Lydia walked all the way from the Walton family’s forest villa to Ebb & Flow.
“Later, Mr. Simpson came out and asked her a few questions. She probably fainted at the entrance of Ebb & Flow, either from the physical strain after being beaten or something else.
“With injuries like that, she dragged herself in high heels for nearly 10 kilometers–no wonder she passed out. You know what happened next.”

Morris responded with a flat “Oh,” and said, “So Lydia was quite devoted to villa. Did Tristan go there that night?”
Steven nodded, “Yes, but the surveillance was deliberately erased, and we couldn’t recover that part.
“However, the guys we had stationed there said he did go, arriving late at night in his usual sedan.”
Morris hummed thoughtfully, “That makes it clear. Tristan did this to his own daughter.
“For years, we’ve never known who Tristan’s partner is, only that the Walton family brought home a two–year–old girl over a decade ago.
“Check the surveillance cameras around the area. Once you have the results, don’t send them to me; send them directly to Mateo at Betrico Central Mansions.
“Hank has already been moving freely in and out of the Jarrett residence. Cherise’s mother might wake up at any moment. We need to be prepared. Let’s get this started!”
Steven received his instructions and quickly left Betrico Hospital.
As soon as Steven left, Leo stepped up to Morris, “Boss, Lex is all set on his end.”
Morris nodded, “Good, keep him on high alert and ready for anything.”
“Yes, sir!”
Just as their conversation ended, the light above the operating room door went off, and the door swung open.
At the sound, Morris and Leo stopped talking, and Hank, who had been pacing back and forth, also stopped and moved closer.
The first to come out were the doctors who had gone in with Cherise. They greeted Morris and the others before leaving.
A minute or two later, Crow emerged. Seeing the group, he stretched and said, “Hey, everyone’s here. My boss is right behind me and will be out soon.”
Leo and Hank couldn’t help but ask, “Hey, wait, why isn’t anyone saying whether the surgery was successful or not? We’ve all been waiting.”

Crow, hearing their question, laughed outright and retorted, “Who’s the attending physician?”
Leo replied earnestly, “Mrs. Chivers.”
Crow chuckled again, “And who’s the patient?”
Leo answered, “Mrs. Chivers’s mother.”
Crow clapped Leo on the shoulder after hearing his response, “There you go, mate. If Mrs. Chivers is the attending physician and her own mother is the patient, success is pretty much guaranteed.
“Trust me, it went smoothly. My boss will be out in a jiffy after tidying up.”
Just as Crow finished speaking, Cherise emerged from inside.
Morris felt a weight lift from his heart at the sight of her. He had never been overly worried, having full confidence in Cherise’s capabilities.
Their eyes met, and they shared a smile before Hank jumped in with a question, “Ms. Leach, was the surgery successful? Thank you for your hard work.”
“How’s she doing? When can she be moved to a regular ward for observation? And how long will it take for her to wake up?” Hank’s questions came rapid–fire, a sign of his anxious state.
Cherise understood his feelings. After smiling at Morris again, she addressed Hank’s concerns, “The surgery was quite successful. The blood clot in her brain has been completely removed. She can be transferred to a regular ward in a few hours.
“However, as for when she’ll wake up, that’s something we’ll have to observe after the anesthesia wears off. It could be a day, two days, or even longer.
“As a fellow medical professional, you know I can’t guarantee a timeline. It’s up to the patient herself. But overall, she’s in good condition with no complications.”
Hearing Cherise’s words, the anxiety Hank had been carrying for years finally dissipated. He just needed to wait patiently for her to wake up.
With deep gratitude, Hank looked at Cherise and said, “Ms. Leach, thank you so much. I’m speaking on behalf of our mom here.”
Cherise smiled but didn’t say anything. Instead, she walked up to Morris and looked up at him.
Morris, seeing her tired face after a long day, smiled affectionately and said, “Well done. And congratulations.”
At Morris’s words, Cherise grinned widely, her happiness evident, “Thank you, Morris. Also, I’m really hungry.”
Morris took her hand and said, “Come on, let’s go to the place where we had our first meal together.”
