Morris and Cherise returned to Chivers Residence. After filling their stomachs with a late–night snack, Morris finally fixed his gaze on Cherise and asked about what had happened that day.
“Cherise, you came to see me today because there was something you wanted to tell me, right?” he said.
Dressed in her comfortable loungewear, Cherise looked at him with an adorably coy expression and nodded. “Yes. But then -well, you know, things got a little… delayed.”
Hearing this, Morris couldn’t help but reach out and pinch her cheek with a chuckle. “I could tell something was off with you today.”
Letting go of her face, he gently ran his fingers through her hair. “Go on, I’m listening.”
Cherise nodded, her expression turning more serious. She walked over to her bag, pulled out an envelope, glanced at it, and then placed it in front of Morris.
Sitting down, she looked at him earnestly and said, “You’re my husband, so I believe that everything–now and in the future -I should share with you. This letter was given to me at our wedding by a little girl on behalf of someone.”
Morris’s expression grew puzzled and solemn.
Cherise continued watching him and said, “The letter is mainly a wedding blessing, wishing us happiness and a long life together. However, what’s strange is the person who wrote it.”
“Oh?” Morris raised a brow. “The sender must be someone significant–otherwise, they wouldn’t be able to affect you like this.”
He hit the nail on the head, and Cherise didn’t hide anything from him. Taking a steady breath, she said, “That’s right. The person who wrote this letter is not ordinary. The signature at the bottom belongs to my mother.”
The moment she said it, Morris was genuinely taken aback. He had always believed that Cherise’s mother had passed away, so this was something he had never expected.
Looking at her in disbelief, he suddenly understood why Cherise had been unusually eager at the office earlier.
But he quickly calmed himself, keeping his mind sharp as he carefully analyzed the situation. “Are you sure it’s really her handwriting?”
Cherise didn’t nod immediately. “I’ve studied a lot of people’s handwriting–especially those I’m close to.
“I’ve seen all the notes my mother left behind from her school days at Saphira, so I remember her handwriting clearly. I’m certain this letter was written by her.”

isn’t far from us–in fact, they might be someone we know well,”

Cherise neither nodded nor shook her head. “A lot of strange things have been happening recently. And every single one of them seems to revolve around one person.”
Saying this, she looked at Morris again.
Morris nodded in agreement. “That’s right. Seems like we’re thinking the same thing. Maybe this person is the key breakthrough we need.”
“Yes,” Cherise said. “Tell me, how do you think our combined hacking skills measure up?”
“Unrivaled,” Morris replied with absolute confidence. The moment those words left his mouth, the two of them exchanged a knowing smile.

Half an hour later, Morris and Cherise were in the study, sitting side by side.
“Oh, this technique, this editing–it does seem a little familiar.” Cherise tapped away at the keyboard, a confident glint in her.

“The high–resolution image of the girl’s face is ready. But after multiple comparisons, I don’t see any wedding guests related to her,” Morris said. “Maybe she’s not the child of one of our guests?”
Hearing this, Cherise leaned in, just like Morris, carefully enlarging and scrutinizing the little girl’s features.
After a moment, she chuckled lightly. “Oh, she looks familiar.”
Morris raised an eyebrow. “You know her?”
Cherise nodded. “She’s a girl from Charity Orphanage. I remember her quite well. She’s about five years old. Due to prolonged malnutrition, she’s rather small for her age, so she looks more like an average three–year–old.
“I’ve visited Charity Orphanage a few times, but I only met her once. She’s quite withdrawn, doesn’t talk much, and always hides in a corner by herself.
“The girl in the surveillance footage, however, has long hair tied into two little braids. But there’s still a flaw in the disguise.” As Cherise spoke, she tapped twice on the keyboard, further enlarging the image.
She pointed at a spot behind the little girl’s ear on the screen. “Right here. The way the hair near her ear adheres to her scalp looks off.
“She was clearly disguised by someone. And as for who did it, I think you already have a suspect in mind.”
