After the wedding, Cherise and Morris were completely exhausted.
The next day, the two of them broke their usual habit of waking up early and showed no signs of getting out of bed even by
noon.
They didn’t think about anything else–today was meant to be a day just for the two of them, a space that belonged entirely to them alone.
As the bright sunlight streamed into the room, Cherise slowly opened her sleepy eyes. She stretched lazily and turned to look at Morris, who was still fast asleep beside her. A soft smile curved her lips.
She smiled sweetly, full of contentment. Perhaps her happiness was infectious, or maybe Morris had already been awake- either way, he suddenly let out a low chuckle and pulled Cherise into his arms.
“Honey, after so many days, I finally had a good night’s sleep last night. It feels amazing to have you here,” Morris said.
Cherise instinctively tightened her arms around Morris’s strong waist. “Yeah. You worked so hard for this wedding. No matter what the future holds, we’ll go through it together. From now on, you have to take good care of me, okay?” Hearing this, Morris playfully pinched her nose. “Silly girl, as long as I’m here, I’ll make sure you live a happy life.”
Feeling satisfied, Cherise nuzzled against Morris’s chest and, with a hint of shyness, murmured, “I want to do something we planned before. Can we?”
Morris understood instantly. He kissed her forehead and, with a voice full of indulgence, whispered, “Of course.”
Soon, the bedroom in the Chivers Residence became just as heated as the midsummer day outside.

Two days later, Cherise went to Dora’s office at GlobalVision Group. She sat across from Dora, with Crow seated beside her.
“Well, well, if it isn’t the newlywed bride! As expected, marriage has made a difference–you look even more radiant and beautiful,” Dora teased with a smile.
Cherise beamed. “Oh, stop teasing me. You’re doing just as well yourself! The love from your family and relationship is making you more and more charming.”
Crow, seemingly unable to take it anymore, cleared his throat. “Have you two forgotten that there’s a single man sitting right here?”
“So what? It’s not like this is the first time you’ve heard us talk like this,” Dora said nonchalantly.
Then she turned to Cherise. “Alright, enough chit–chat. You’re almost done with your wedding leave–let’s get down to business.”
As she spoke, she pulled out the letter she had received during the wedding from her drawer. “Here, Cherise. I’ve been keeping this safe for you. Now it’s yours.”
Cherise nodded and reached out to take the letter from Dora. After a brief hesitation, she opened it again and read through
it once more.
The letter began with: My dearest daughter, Cherise.
The main content followed: I am your mother. I’m so sorry to be reaching out to you in this way.

Cherise had always been someone who could pick things up and put them down with ease. After asking Dora to put away the letter during her wedding, she had completely focused on the ceremony, leaving the mysterious letter unattended.
For the past two days at Chivers Residence, Cherise had been immersed in her peaceful time with Morris. Now, after finishing up here, reading the letter brought her back to the heavy emotions and doubts she had felt when she first saw it.
The letter wasn’t signed by some stranger–it bore the name Claire. Her mother. That was what made her feel this way.
Dora and Crow noticed how her once bright smile was slowly fading and couldn’t help but ask, “Cherise, are you okay? Do you
think this letter is fake?”
“Boss, are you alright?” Crow asked with some concern.
Hearing them call her snapped Cherise out of her thoughts. She let out a faint, somewhat helpless chuckle and shook her head. “I’m fine.”
Then, she turned to Crow. “After my wedding, did you look further into this matter?”
Crow nodded. “Of course. This is important for you.
“After the wedding, I pulled up the surveillance footage. A little girl in a white puffy dress did hand this letter to Jean. But as for where she came from or how she got the letter, there’s absolutely no way to trace it.
“All I could see was that she emerged from a large group of guests. That particular crowd was tightly packed, and several children were wearing the exact same outfit. After handing the letter to Jean, she quickly ran back into the group.
“When I zoomed in on the footage to track her within the crowd, she had already disappeared. I even had Jean examine every frame closely, but she couldn’t identify the girl.
“I don’t know if someone is deliberately trying to mess with your mind or what.”
Hearing Crow’s analysis, Cherise furrowed her brows slightly. “Could this be a carefully orchestrated plan? One designed to ensure I received this letter but without revealing who sent it?
“Not only does this person know about my wedding, but they also knew that Jean was my bridesmaid and used her as a way to pass the letter to me. So, it’s clear that this person-”
Cherise paused for a moment. Dora picked up where she left off. “It’s clear that this person knows you. And they likely also know Jean and your biological mother.”
Cherise nodded in
agreement.
Seeing her reaction, Dora continued, “Not just that. If this letter is real, then it could mean your mother is actually alive. But then…?”
Dora trailed off, feeling a bit lost.

“If your mother is alive, then why didn’t she contact you all these years? And when your grandmother passed away, she never showed up either. This-”
Hearing this, Cherise fell into deep thought. Her emotions were in turmoil.
She felt both longing and resentment toward her mother. Yet, deep down, she still held onto a sliver of hope. Since her grandmother had been such a kind person, her mother couldn’t possibly be a selfish one either. Maybe Claire had her
reasons.
Cherise pressed her lips together and stood up. “I’m a married woman now. I need to discuss this with my husband first.”
