Chapter 37 Don’t Make Me Fight Alone
Sofia answered the phone and asked, “What’s going on? What happened?”
“There’s some trouble in the U.S.,” Sylvia said directly.
They had stolen the Hank family’s auction item today.
Despite Sylvia having dealt with the mercenaries and hitmen involved at the scene, the high value of the item had drawn intense scrutiny from various American factions.
Even though they had cleaned up the scene perfectly, some people had still taken notice.
Sylvia had just received news that Welles and Justin had been captured and were being tortured.
Sofia’s brow furrowed deeply.
This was indeed a slip–up on her part.
After a moment of thought, she said, “I’ll come over right away.”
“Wait,” Sylvia quickly interrupted. “I didn’t call for you to come here. I want you to stay hidden. Don’t expose yourself. I’ll handle this. But I need to change course, so the item won’t reach you today.”
Sofia understood Sylvia’s meaning immediately. “Alright, stay safe.”
“Don’t worry, I’m Black Rose,” Sylvia replied confidently.
Sofia wasn’t worried about Sylvia’s capabilities, and as Sylvia said, Sofia couldn’t afford to be exposed.
Otherwise, not only might they not get the item, but even the Hart family could be implicated, which Sofia wanted to avoid at all costs.
Hanging up, Sofia felt even more uneasy.
The delay of the item meant her next step had to be postponed, forcing Nathaniel to endure more pain.

This left Sofia feeling deeply unsettled.
She looked at the box of macarons, her eyes darkening.
She picked one up and put it in her mouth, the sweetness easing her mood slightly.
Well, it’s just a matter of time, she thought. She would wait patiently.
After eating a couple more macarons, Sofia felt better. She then started preparing Nathaniel’s medicine.

Nathaniel’s body was responding well, which emboldened Sofia to increase the dosage.
Today’s amount was double that of the first day.
However, she wasn’t sure when Sylvia would be able to resolve the situation. If it took too long, they might run out of the current medication.
At 1 AM, Sofia entered Nathaniel’s room.
The routine was the same, keeping vigil by his bed.
Nathaniel’s reaction tonight was intense. Despite the soup–induced deep sleep, he was still in visible pain.
Sofia watched as Nathaniel writhed in agony, his brows tightly knit, and he uttered pained sounds.
She felt a pang of guilt was necessary for his recovery.

Sofia’s lips tightened as she washed a towel and wiped Nathaniel’s sweat–drenched body. Despite the air conditioning, his bedding was soaked.
Gently, she soothed, “Hang in there, just a bit longer. You’ll get better soon. Trust me, okay?”
Whether Nathaniel heard her or not, after another painful moan, he seemed to calm down.
Though his brows remained furrowed, indicating his discomfort, Sofia noticed a shift.
Sofia’s eyes softened, filled with an emotion she hadn’t fully realized herself.

After a moment of hesitation, she reached out and gently stroked Nathaniel’s furrowed brow, trying to ease his tension.
She whispered, “Give me half a month. Once your body is ready, you’ll undergo surgery and walk again.”
It was unclear if Nathaniel heard her, but his brow did relax.
Then Sofia smiled, her voice even softer. “Be strong. Don’t make me fight alone.”
She knew Nathaniel had previously given in to despair. Though he was improving, she worried he wouldn’t endure the increasing pain.
After staying by his side all night, Sofia returned to her room at dawn. Instead of preparing to leave, she lay down and quickly fell asleep.
When Older Mr. Hart checked on Nathaniel, he found him awake and deep in thought.
“Sofia was up to something last night. It’s strange she hasn’t woken up yet,” he remarked.
Nathaniel knew exactly what Sofia had been doing.
He had asked Kyler to bring his computer and finish a system he had been working on.
This system allowed him to replay missed audio from his earpiece and project video on the room’s walls, showing who had been there and what they had done.
Having reviewed the footage, Nathaniel was deeply moved by Sofia’s care. Hearing her words about his potential recovery left him with mixed feelings.
She had said that in half a month, he would undergo surgery and regain his mobility.
But how was that possible?
His grandfather had told him Sofia was just an ordinary doctor at Cleveland Hospital, not particularly renowned.
Despite all the information suggesting Sofia was ordinary, no specialist had been able to
cure him.
Yet, Sofia dared to claim she could heal him in half a month.
Nathaniel was highly skeptical of this possibility.
