Chapter 39
Lucian’s POV:
I could tell that my Luna
wasn’t sleeping well tonight.
She seemed to be having a nightmare, her expression full of distress.
“Kathryn, what’s wrong?” I
But Kathryn reacted violently, struggling hard and even hitting me in the process.
asked worriedly, trying to pull her into my arms.
I grabbed her flailing hands and pinned them above her head. “What’s wrong?”
“What are you doing?” Kathryn woke
up, a mix of embarrassment and annoyance on her face as she struggled to free her hands. “Why are you touching me while I’m sleeping?”
I was stunned by her question.
I just wanted to hold my mate!
Embarrassed and frustrated, I asked her in return, “Is that not allowed? Don’t you want that?”
Kathryn blinked in confusion. “Want what?”
“All the baby stuff you’ve placed around the house, the fertility bracelet on your wrist, the clothes you’ve set aside for me in the closet, the men’s slippers at the door–aren’t those meant for me?”
She clearly didn’t want a divorce.
She must still want to have children with me.
This must be her way of trying to stay with me.
Otherwise, why would she have prepared all of this?
Kathryn fell silent.
See? My heart leapt with joy–her silence was as good as admission.
“Kathryn…” I gazed at her tenderly and leaned in to kiss her.
Bang! My mate suddenly kicked me off the bed.
Oh my Moon Goddess, what is she doing?
Kathryn’s POV:
We had already signed the divorce papers–only the court’s decree remained.
And yet, Lucian was still trying to be intimate with me!
Last time at Tempest Manor was because of a setup.
But this time?
Lucian might have lost his mind, but I certainly hadn’t!
kicked him off the bed with a hard shove.
Scooting to the other side of the bed, I wrapped myself tightly in the blanket. “That bracelet was a gift from Grandma. It’s for fertility, not for you. We’re about to get divorced. Do you really think I’d have children with you? Give it up.”

I pursed my lips and added, “Either go back home or sleep quietly. If you wake Grandma up, I’ll call Grandpa to mediate.”
Lucian’s grandfather was partial to me and respected my grandmother deeply. If Lucian upset Grandma, he wouldn’t get away with it.
With that, I ignored Lucian, wrapped myself in the blanket, and went back to sleep.
The next morning, I groggily opened my eyes, only to find myself face–to–face with Lucian’s tense jawline.
Oh no, why had I rolled back into his
Sems again?
didn’t ask you to be in my arms,” Lucian’s slightly mocking voice came from above.
I quickly rolled to the side. “Why are you even on the bed?”
Didn’t I kick him off last night?
Lucian got out of bed, completely unbothered by my presence, and stripped off his loungewear. His well- defined back muscles came into view as he reached for a shirt from the closet. Then he started unbuckling his pants.
Covering my eyes, I shouted as I was flustered, “What are you doing? Is this how you behave in front of a woman who isn’t your wife?”
Lucian glanced at me, his tone indifferent. “Next time, buy better–quality shirts. I’ve never worn anything this ugly in my life.”
He is so infuriating!
This man had the nerve to criticize the clothes I bought!
And those clothes weren’t even for him!
Although… I had unconsciously purchased his size.
I retorted, “Those weren’t bought for you.”
Lucian scoffed. “Should I go tell Grandma that?”
I instantly fell silent.
For Grandma’s sake, I’d endure.
At the studio that morning, Esther immediately approached me with a teasing grin. “Had quite some fun last night, huh?”
Following her gaze, I noticed a red mark near my collarbone–probably from when I accidentally scratched myself while pushing Lucian off the bed.
Unfazed, I showed her. “My shirt tore, that’s all. Nothing happened between us!”
Esther’s jaw practically dropped. “Wait, you two are actually living together? And sharing a bed?”
“Kathryn, don’t tell me you’re softening up! Sure, Lucian’s handsome, but don’t forget–he cheated during your marriage. That’s not something you can forgive.”

“It’s just for show, for the elders. I’m not that desperate,” I said, adjusting my collar.
“Go sketch some designs. I’ll take you out for a wild greens lunch later–to keep your head straight.” Satisfied with my sanity, Esther finally let the matter drop.
Before diving into work, I remembered something. “Oh, right.”
I told Esther about the invitation from Cornelius for The Great Designer.
Her eyes lit up. “An opportunity like that, and you didn’t agree on the spot? That’s like having pancakes fall from the sky and not eating them! Are you dumb?”
“I don’t know. Something feels off about it. Why would they contact you for the show but relay the message through me?”
Could he have figured out that I’m actually Serenity?
While sorting fabric, Esther said, “This show’s been promoted for three months, and now there’s only one spot left for the finale. There was even an online poll, and your name has the highest votes. Cornelius reaching out to us makes perfect sense.
“As for why he contacted you–maybe because he feels familiar with you? Last time we were in his office, you didn’t hesitate to make a scene. Guess he figured he’d have to get through the assistant to reach Serenity.”
“Besides, there’s nothing for them to scam us over. It’s not like we’re Gladeast!” Esther rolled her eyes.
Fair enough.
I perked up. “Alright, I’ll compile the materials tonight and send them to Cornelius.”
That afternoon, I called Cornelius.
“Have you made up your mind?” His voice came through amidst background noise, which quieted after a moment.
“Yes,” I said. “Serenity and I discussed it, and we’ll join.”
“Alright, it’s settled. I’ll have someone coordinate the contract with you,” Cornelius said cheerfully. “Welcome to The Great Designer. You won’t–well, neither of you will–regret it.”
“Wait,” I said before he could hang up.
“What is it?”
“I have one small request.”
“Go ahead.”
“Um…” I hesitated. “I don’t want Lucian to know about it.”
Cornelius paused on the other end, and there was a long silence before he replied.
