Kathryn’s POV:
Ophelia had a gentle voice, instantly calming everyone down. I silently admired her beauty. Smiling slightly, I said, “It’s fine. You look beautiful today.”
After speaking, Ophelia quickly took a few steps forward to lead the group. Even while running in a long gown, her posture remained graceful.
Inside the RV, the girl had already laid a new gown on the bed. When I saw it, I realized it was another dress I had designed.
“It seems you really like Serenity’s designs,” I said with a smile.
“Actually, it’s borrowed by my agent,” Ophelia explained, a little embarrassed.
“Everyone loves Serenity’s designs,” Juliette chimed in, glancing at Esther with a hint of flattery in her tone.
“Thank you for the compliment. Ms. Pearce, but makeup today doesn’t quite match this dress. I could alter the gown you’re wearing now for you, if you don’t mind?” Esther, not the type to accept flattery, kept her tone strictly professional.
The dress was borrowed, so if given to Juliette, Ophelia would likely have to pay for it herself.
Juliette naturally didn’t mind and nodded her head.
Several people helped her out of the gown. Wrapped in a blanket, Juliette sat outside while Esther closed the door. She tossed the gown onto the bed, and threw up her hands in frustration, whispering, “God, I really don’t want to fix it! Did you see her smug face? The fact I didn’t pour wine on her is me being polite.”
I quickly pulled out a needle and thread from my handbag, slipped on my sewing ring, and sat on the bed to begin the task. “Consider it a good deed for the day.”
“Tch, this is all on you! You saw how pretty the girl is and jumped in to play the hero, then you complain when I hurry you.”
“You look stunning today. We didn’t even have time to show off on the red carpet. Have you forgotten your task?” Esther grumbled while helping adjust the dress.
“I know, I know–show off the dress and attract more customers.”
I got to work on altering the gown, first trimming the hem where the wine had stained it.
Then, I plucked feathers from my own gown and used them to patch up Juliette’s dress, snipping off the long straps and sewing two black cat ears onto the bodice from the clean portions of the fabric.
The once elegant, high–slit gown transformed into a feline–inspired, feathered mini–dress.
When I finished, I set aside my tools and asked Esther to call Juliette in.
Juliette put on the modified gown. The originally bright and bold style now had an added touch of mystery, making her look even more stunning than before.
She seemed quite pleased with the alterations to her dress, repeatedly checking herself out in the mirror.
After Juliette left the RV, Esther and I followed shortly behind. As soon as we stepped outside, we saw Juliette and Lucian wrapped in each other’s arms.
Esther was about to lose her temper right then and there, but I grabbed her and walked straight past them without even looking their way, heading directly into the hall.
“Why are you holding me back? I want to tear those two apart! Couldn’t they wait to get a room? Do they have to flaunt it in front you?” Esther fumed on my behalf.
I glanced at her and asked, “And then what? Let everyone know that Lucian divorced me to be with an influencer? If they aren’t embarrassed, I sure am!
Esther sobered up at my words, a dark glint passing through her eyes. “Just wait until Lush Moon becomes an international private haute couture atelier. We’ll be beyond their reach!”
We entered the ballroom, where the dance party was already in full swing. Esther wasted no time and led me straight into the crowd.
“Miss, may I have this dance?” A handsome man, who looked like he had luswarian blood, approached me enthusiastically and politely.
“No…” I was about to decline, but a quick glance at Esther’s increasingly menacing gaze made me smile and say, “Of course.”
Chapter 27
The man led me onto the dance floor. My gown had an open back, and as we danced, his hand grazed across the bare skin of my back.
I felt a bit awkward and couldn’t think of
“Your dress is stunning.”
ything to say to ease the moment, but the man smoothly struck up a conversation.
“Thank you, it’s a design by Serenity from Lush Moon,” I replied, not forgetting my task for the evening. Smiling, I added, “If your girlfriend is interested, I can help schedule an appointment.”
“How about you become my
girlfriend instead?” The man lowered his gaze, his eyes filled with admiration and a hint of desire.
His hand, which had been resting on my shoulder, suddenly slid down to my waist.
This time, his palm pressed directly against my skin.
I could even feel the clammy texture of his hand. I pushed him away and snapped, “What are you doing?”
My outburst quickly caught the attention of those around us. Several people turned to look.
The man seemed taken aback by my intense reaction. His previously gentle face instantly turned stern. “What’s with all the fuss? Doesn’t your company train you in ballroom dance?”
He must have mistaken me for an artist from some company and wanted to sleep with me.
I couldn’t help but laugh. “In our company, we train for ballroom dancing with people, not with beasts.”
The man cursed under his breath and reached out to grab me.
However, before he could even lay a finger on me, his wrist was seized. The newcomer grinned and said, “Giovanni Shaw, everyone’s watching. Isn’t it a little unseemly to bully a woman like this?”
