Chapter 28
Loretta, Vanessa, and Robyn had been tight since they were kids. Even though Robyn was pretty quiet and they went to different schools later on, they still ended up being BFFs,
Bruno used to be so sweet to Loretta–like a real gentleman. But now, turns out he’s a total jerk. A wolf in sheep’s clothing! Vanessa was fuming when she found out Bruno was the one who messed with Loretta’s drink. She was just itching to give hum a piece of her mind.
Loretta and Robyn just let Vanessa vent. When she was almost done, Robyn looked at Loretta and said, “Hey, if you need an backup, just holler
Vanessa jumped in with, “Count me in too.”
Loretta felt a warm feeling in her heart and smiled as she lifted her coffee cup to her friends. “Thanks, guys. I won’t be shy t ask for help when I need it.”
The three girls were chowing down at dinner when Bruno decided to head to this bridge over a river that was getting fixed. He parked his car, got out, and strolled onto the bridge..
He picked this spot because it was quiet and the water wasn’t rushing too fast. If he really did jump, it wouldn’t be super dangerous.
Bruno knew Loretta pretty well, and he was sure that if he showed her how much he loved her, she’d feel it and change her mind. Once that happened, he’d say he was sorry, and she’d definitely forgive him.
Thinking this, he stopped, leaned on the railing, and got ready to climb up and sit on top. The wind was messing clothes as he pulled out his phone to send Loretta a video call. But, like he thought, she didn’t answer.

Then, he called Vanessa, knowing she was Loretta’s bestie and would tell her about his crazy plan at the river. But just as the, video was about to connect, he heard someone yell, “Hey, someone’s about to jump into the river!”
Bruno’s heart did a double take, and he whipped around to see a bunch of guys and gals heading his way.
He clutched the railing for dear life, racking his brain to think of a way to shoo them off. But before he could cook up a scheme, they were right up in his face, and one of them was even packing a video camera.
Bruno’s gut
reaction was to hide his mug. He was ready for them to try and talk him down, but these folks were acting way more amped up than he’d figured.
“Whoa! This dude seriously looks like he’s about to take the plunge. Let’s go live right here, pronto. Streaming from a spot
blow up for sure. Today must be our lucky day,” a streamer said. where someone’s about to jump is gonna
Bruno just stood there, speechless.
“Come on, let’s get this camera set up and start the livestream, the streamer said.
“It’s live!” one of his partners said.
“Hey there, my lovely viewers! We’re broadcasting live from a bulge that’s under construction, but guess what? There’s a twist–check it out, someone’s contemplating a jump!” the streamer said excitedly.
“Let’s get the chat going–what should I say to talk him down? FartLover, you’re terrible! How can you even suggest I let him jump? Some of you are saying I should ask why he’s thinking of jumping? And someone else mentioned calling the cops. Alright, I’ll go ask this guy why he’s thinking of jumping. My team’s already dialed for help, so no worries,” he
continued.

Bruno couldn’t believe his drama–queen moment of jumping into the river was getting crashed by some random live streamer. As he tuned in to what the streamer was chatting about, he held onto the railing so tight his knuckles went ghost white. His brain was going haywire, feeling like his whole plan was crumbling.
When the camera zoomed in on him, he felt a wave of mad rush to his head. Who do they think they are, bugging my private moment like this?‘ he thought angrily. Once I win Loretta back, I’m gonna make sure these people regret it big time
He covered his face and yelled, “No filming! Stay back!”
The crowd froze for a sec, and the streamer quickly replied, “Hey, good–looking, don’t get all hot and bothered, or you might lose your footing! We don’t want any accidents, do we?”
“Get lost!” Bruno yelled, noticing the camera was still trained on him and feeling his anger spike. “Turn that camera off!”
“Hey! Chill out! Chill out! The streamer kept trying to calm the situation, but Bruno was on a rant about the camera. It was like they were in a full–on shouting match.
After what felt like forever of this back–and–forth, someone in the crowd suddenly piped up, “A viewer just ID’d this guy. They say he’s a teacher at their school. Another person mentioned he recently hooked up with his girlfriend’s cousin and has been bugging his ex non–stop, trying to get her to forgive him. Wow! So he’s a total dirtbag. People like him deserve whatever they get!”
Bruno was thunderstruck when he heard those words. His body shook a bit, and he nearly lost his balance and fell over the railing.
Some ladies screamed, scared out of their minds.
Just then, police sirens wailed in the distance.
Bruno’s face went ghost white. He was stuck between a rock and hard place. He just wanted Loretta to see how much he loved her, but things had gone totally sideways. Now, he had to take a big chance. If he jumped and made it, he could show Loretta his love was for real. With that thought, he clenched his teeth, ready to go for it.
Everyone’s eyes bugged out when they saw what Bruno was about to do. For a second, they were all just standing there, scared stiff. But then, in the blink of an eye, someone dashed over and yanked Bruno back from the edge.
When Bruno thudded onto the ground, he felt woozy and his face twisted from the hurt. The cops who were getting closer quickly grabbed him.
Right then, a deep voice that sounded kinda familiar cut through the noise. “Officer, this guy’s got some problems. Maybe you should get him looked at.
Bruno lifted his head just in time to see a super tall guy walking away. He shivered as he tried to get back on his feet. I’m just fine. Let me go,” Bruno argued.
“Hey, chill out, man!” a cop called out.
Malcolm was leaning back in the car seat, just chilling and scrolling through his phone.
Ruben, who was driving, looked over at Bruno, who was still trying to get free, and then back at Malcolm with a face full of surprise. “Malcolin, what’s the deal? Following Bruno to watch han jump into the river was one thing, but bringing a live- streamer to film it and then saving him yourself? Are you…”
Suddenly, Malcolm looked up at Ruben with a serious face. Ruben got so startled that he forgot what he was going to say

Malcolm looked back down at his phone, sounding all casual. It it interesting?”
“Interesting? Ruben was all mixed up. “I think Bruno’s trying to flek Loretta into getting back with him by pretending to kill

himself. Didn’t you see–him make a call when he climbed up there? Are you doing all this to stop Loretta from forgiving
him?”
Malcolm just looked at him, real casual, without saying a word.
Ruben felt like he had it all figured out. “Back in high school, you were in the same class as Loretta and you’d scare off any guy who was interested in her, keeping them away. Some things never change, huh? Wait. What are you doing leaning over like that?” Ruben asked, getting a bit nervous as Malcolm moved closer to him.
Malcolm said, all cool, “My car says it doesn’t want to give you a ride anymore, and I’ve got to respect my car’s feelings.”
Ruben grabbed the seatbelt quick as lighting, yelling, “Come on, Malcolm. You can’t just kick me out. I’m just telling it like
it is!”
“I can do whatever I want,” Malcolm said, reaching for Ruben’s seatbelt to unbuckle it. But then he froze, looking to the side as a woman ran past, crying her eyes out.
Ruben saw her too and stopped fighting with the seatbelt. “Isn’t that Amy, Loretta’s cousin? Did you call her here as well?”
Malcolm folded his arms, his face a total mystery. “Nope.”
