“MAMA, I love this place! The people here are kind, and there were a lot of kids, too,” Peter said enthusiastically as Serena bathed him after they ate dinner. She was glad to see her son being happy because she thought he would miss the island and would be overwhelmed by the new environment, but it seemed lie was adjusting just fine.
“We’re going to live here from now on, right? Together with Papa,” he added, playing with the water using her palm.
“That’s right, this is where you truly belong after all,” Serena replied, smiling brightly before turning around when she felt a presence behind her. There, she saw Perez leaning against the door frame of the bathroom with his arms crossed over his chest, observing them. “What’s the matter?”
“I’ll help you take care of him, so let me dress him and put him to sleep,” he said, wanting to learn how to take care of their son because he wanted to make up for the years that he wasn’t able to help Serena in raising Peter.
“All right, come here,” She gestured for him to come over and showed him what needed to be done. Perez carefully lifted Peter out of the bathtub and wrapped him in a warm towel before putting him on top of the bed and slipping on his pajamas, following his wife’s instructions. It might have seemed like a simple task, but it was surprisingly difficult with Peter squirming and moving around while he was trying to dress him
Serena couldn’t control her laughter. Perez seemed to believe that Peter was a perfectly behaved child, but even though he usually was, there were times when he acted out like any other kid. Sometimes, he refused to cooperate and could get cranky and throw tantrums, especially when he was overstimulated.
After finally getting Peter to sleep, he walked over to Serena who had been observing him the entire time. He then took a seat beside her on the sofa.
“How was the experience?” she asked, watching him lean his head against her shoulder.
“It was fun, but kind of overwhelming,” he replied truthfully as he wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her slightly closer to him. “I didn’t know our son could be so energetic,”
“Did you have a hard time raising him?” he asked, looking up at her to see her gaze fixed on him.
“Sometimes, but Nanny Annie was there to help when things became too overwhelming, so I managed,” she replied, reminiscing on the challenges of labor and childbirth, as well as the endless nights she spent awake while caring for her newborn son Peter. She also remembered the difficult moments when she would cry while breastfeeding him due to sore breasts, but she persevered through it all and successfully raised Peter well.
“Don’t worry, despite my busy schedule, I’ll make sure to help you with the duties of raising our son. Let’s do it together this time,” he said, and Serena nodded before a silence fell between them. The atmosphere around them changed as they leaned into each other, their faces only inches apart. Before he knew it, he was kissing her, savoring her taste as he slid one of his hands under her shirt, feeling the smooth skin underneath his fingertips.

“Let’s go
somewhere,” she said, and Perez felt a shiver down his spine before nodding. Slowly, he took Serena’s hand and asked her to call her nanny through the mind link to keep an eye on Peter. Once she did, they moved to the guest room located at the end of the hall.
