Chapter 65
“WHAT IS IT TO YOU?” Serena asked a deep scowl etched onto her features as she stood up abruptly. “If it’s not importe I’m going back to my study. There are still plenty of important tasks that require my attention rather than wasting it on a conversation with you.”
As Serena turned to leave, Marga’s hand shot out and gripped her arm with surprising force. Before the could react, she was pulled back with such strength that she stumbled and fell onto the center table with a resounding crash. The impact shookk the glasses on the table, sending them clattering to the floor in a chaotic sound.
“Aw,” A sharp sting of pain shot through her skull as the coffee cup crashed against the back of her head. She winced and slowly sat up, gingerly touching the source of the throbbing ache. Her fingers came away damp with a warm, sticky liquid. She assumed it was leftover coffee from the smashed cup, but to her shock, it was blood.
Gritting her teeth, she forced herself to stand up, determined not to let Marga pay for what she did. But as she rose to her feet, a sudden dizziness overcame her, and her legs wobbled uncontrollably. Her knees buckled underneath her, and she braced for impact, but before she could hit the ground, Alpha Perez burst into the room. Concern etched on his face, he rushed to catch her in his arms.
The smell of freshly brewed coffee mixed with the metallic tang of blood filled the air as Alpha Perez helped her stand straight.
“What happened?” he asked, but as soon as he noticed the trickle of blood on her skin, all his senses were triggered. Without hesitating, he scooped her up in his arms, holding her close like a bride on her wedding day before calling the pack’s physician through the mind link.
“Wait!” Marga reached out a hand towards Perez, but her fingers barely grazed his arm before she was hit with the full force of his alpha aura. It felt like a physical barrier pushing her back, causing her to stumble and nearly lose her balance. Her eyes widened in shock as she realized the depth of his power and dominance.
Aside from that, she despised how easily he wielded that power, knowing the damage it could cause her. It only served to highlight how much Serena meant to him, which only intensified her jealousy.
“Don’t fucking touch me,” The sound of his feral growl echoed through the room, sending shivers down Marga’s spine. With a commanding gesture, he ordered the warriors to lock her in the drawing room.
As soon as the door closed in front of her, Marga began to pound on it with all her might, screaming for someone to let her out. But Alpha Perez had given strict instructions to the two guards standing outside–no matter what happened within those walls, they were not to unlock the door and release Marga from her confinement, not when she harmed his wife.
“I’m all right, the wound will heal soon,” Serena placed a gentle hand on his cheek, the warmth and softness of her touch soothing his worried expression. But despite her reassurance, he remained unconvinced. He knew that she was telling the truth since her wolf had already been awakened and that would mean, she would heal quickly, but the image of her being hurt still worried him.
As they walked into their room, the physician joined them and saw that the wound was already healing quickly. Both Alpha Perez and the physician were amazed by how fast her healing ability was. In the edn, the physician was dismissed, as he was no longer needed, leaving Serena feeling a bit sorry for him.
“See? I told you I’m fine.” She gazed up at him with a gentle smile, and he couldn’t help but feel relieved. But his relief quickly turned to surprise as Serena suddenly rose from the couch.
“What’s wrong?”
“I had left the box of silver bullets in the drawing room. If Marga saw them, she could inform the king and ruin everything.” she replied with a sense of urgency, trying to leave the bedroom but Alpha Perez prevented her from doing so.
“It’s not a problem; even if she reports us to the Alpha King, it won’t change anything. Plus, I have another merchant in mind that we could do business with instead,” he reassured, pulling her back to sit on the sofa.

“Just take a break here, okay?” he pleaded, and Serena sighed, giving in to his persuasion. “I’ll go back to work now. Just go to my study if you want anything.”
“Okay,” she nodded in agreement, savoring the moment as he kissed her. After he left the room and closed the door, she quickly changed her clothes to rid herself of any bloodstains. However, while doing so, her heart started pounding for reasons unknown. It was as if something terrible was about to happen, and she couldn’t pinpoint where the feeling was coming from.
In a moment of realization, she noticed that Alpha Perez never used the connecting door to reach his study. Acting on this realization, she hurriedly left the room and went downstairs to check if he had gone to the drawing room where he kept Marga earlier.
As she approached, she saw that the two guards who were supposed to stand outside were no longer there, causing her anxiety to rise. She quickly turned the doorknob, afraid that Perez had punished Marga. But as she pushed open the door, her eyes widened in surprise at the sight of Marga sitting on her husband’s lap with her arms wrapped around his neck.
She could feel the anger bubbling up inside her, driving her forward as she strode towards Marga, fully prepared to kick her out. However, before she could act, Alpha Perez forcefully pushed Marga away from him without a care for where she landed. His intense glare and furious expression caused Marga to shrink back in fear of what he might do.
“Enough,” Serena reached out to touch Perez, sensing that he was on the verge of releasing his aura. Marga had already fallen to the floor and was clutching her stomach in pain; any more stress could potentially cause a miscarriage or premature birth. That was not a risk they could afford to take so. Serena took a step back, shaking her head at Perez as a warning to control his emotions.
“She used her scent to try and seduce me. She knew it would awaken my wolf’s primal instincts.” Perez explained as his mind went completely blank earlier, and he only came to his senses when he saw Serena’s surprised expression.
“I believe in you; I know you would never cheat on me. Especially not with someone who would resort to such desperate measures for personal gain.” She said sternly, her gaze fixed on Marga as she summoned a maid and commanded her to escort Marga back to the Annex. Serena then instructed four warriors to monitor her half–sister’s every move, forbidding her from leaving the annex under any circumstances.
She refused to let her seduce her husband; if she had managed it with Calix, Serena was determined to not let it happen again with her second chance mate–Over her dead body.
“No! You can’t lock me up!” Marga yelled as she was being gently dragged by the warriors, careful not to put too much pressure on her stomach and cause further harm. “Serena, don’t act like you’re better than me! I was supposed to have what you have ”
The heavy, wooden door slammed shut with a resounding thud, cutting off Marga’s complaints mid–sentence. The sudden silence that enveloped the drawing room was suffocating, bringing a sinking feeling of dread to Serena’s chest. She couldn’t shake the image of Marga perched on Perez’s lap even if she tried not to think about it.
She took a deep breath and once calmed herself, she broke the silence.
“Are you okay?” She turned to Alpha Perez, who appeared guilty and troubled. His face showed an internal struggle; he hated himself… He wasn’t even weak, but his inner wolf seemed harder to control these days.
“Are you not upset with me?” His hand trembled as he held Serena’s, the guilt weighing heavy on his mind for embracing. another woman. Even though he was struggling to control his wolf’s instincts, he still blamed himself for not being able to keep them in check.
Serena placed a comforting hand on his shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze as she looked into his eyes. She could see the torment and guilt etched in them, and her heart ached for him,
“I’m not upset with you,” she replied softly, setting aside her worries. “But I am worried that this might happen again.”
“I’m sorry,” He looked down at the floor in shame. “I don’t know what came over me, I couldn’t think straight as soon as she released her scent. It was like my wolf had taken complete control; I felt hypnotized.”

“I want to reject her already,” he added, the desperation in his voice was evident, the frustration apparent in his features. “It’s killing me. Every time I look into her eyes, my wolf takes over–and I hate it.”
Serena took a deep breath, knowing that they needed to have an honest conversation about what had happened. She led him to sit down on one of the plush sofas and sat beside him, taking both his hands in hers.
“We both want the same thing, but let’s hang in there a little longer, okay? For now, let’s just avoid interacting with Marga.”
