Chapter 55
WITH A FIERCE GROWL, Priscilla lunged forward, her powerful muscles propelling her across the ground with lightning speed. Serena reacted instinctively, dodging to the side just in time to avoid Priscilla’s snapping jaws. Though she was in human form, Serena was agile and quick on her feet.
The sun beat down on them relentlessly, casting long shadows across the training grounds as they circled each other. Even though Serena was currently in her human form, she was still agile and quick on her feet.
However, Priscilla was much larger, stronger, and faster than her, easily outpacing her. This frustrated Serena, as all she could do was dodge. She didn’t have any weapons readily available, and the training area was completely empty. She couldn’t use any of the usual tricks that she had used when attacked by infected rogues in the past.
Despite feeling like the training was unfair, she knew that it would only get more difficult once the real training began. So, she gathered all her strength and made a conscious decision not to dodge Priscilla’s wolf. Instead, she jumped into the air and kicked back towards Priscilla’s stomach, causing her to fall to the ground with a loud thud.
Gamma Taylor’s mouth dropped open in awe as she witnessed Luna’s incredible strength. Despite her wolf not yet awakening, her alpha blood proved to be powerful enough for her to kick a large wolf.
Serena then landed gracefully and apologized to her sister–in–law through their mind link. However, it seemed like her attack had no effect as Priscilla quickly regained her composure and launched another attack with a fierce snarl.
The fight raged on, and every so often, Gamma Taylor would give Serena advice on how to handle the situation, which she did her best to follow. After what felt like hours of intense training, they finally finished and returned to their duties after taking a much–needed break.
“Do you want some coffee?” Priscilla offered as she stretched her arms, feeling the fatigue from completing the same paperwork task repeatedly. “The sun was about to set; we should continue this tomorrow; we have been working nonstop since we finished training.”
Serena’s attention shifted from the document she was reading to the window, where she saw the sun setting and signaling that dinner time was approaching. She couldn’t help but notice that Perez had not yet returned home, despite saying he would be back by now. She tried not to worry and refocused on Priscilla, who was sorting through the papers on the center table.
Despite having her own designated area for working, she chose to work alongside Serena because she too was feeling anxious about Jarren being on patrol. He had gone on patrols before with Alpha or Gamma to ensure the territory’s safety and organization, but now with the growing numbers of infected rogues, the danger level was rising rapidly.
This meant an increased risk for those on
patrol.
“Are you worried about your mate?” Serena asked, observing the worried look on her sister–in–law’s face. Priscilla offered a gentle smile and relaxed on the couch.
“I didn’t want to, but I couldn’t help it,” she responded, feeling a tinge of embarrassment. She had just reassured Serena that everything was fine and there was nothing to worry about, but now she couldn’t help but feel anxious for Jarren and her brother, as well as the other warriors who had joined them. “I hope they were on their home already.”
“I’m sure they were,” Serena said but after a few hours, they still hadn’t arrived home yet.
Despite her insistence on waiting to eat dinner with him, she ended up having to share a meal with Priscilla instead because it was already past 9:00. However, their constant worry over their mates made it difficult for either of them to truly enjoy
their food.
“Why aren’t you home yet?” Serena paced back and forth on the balcony, stealing glances at the gate every now and then. She blew into her hands and rubbed them together to warm up; the frigid night air was giving her chills. It looked like winter was making a comeback, which meant everything would soon be blanketed in snow once more.

And with that, the rogues would also be on the move again, adding to Serena’s anxiety.

“Please, Moon Goddess, make my husband and the other return safely,” She hugged herself tightly, muttering under her breath. Despite the biting cold, she stayed outside for another hour until she couldn’t bear it any longer. Finally, she retreated into the room and wrapped herself in a warm blanket. The only sound was the ticking of a clock until suddenly a commotion broke through the silence from downstairs.
Her head immediately perked up, and she hurriedly ran downstairs, only to freeze when she saw Mathias bleeding.

“Wh–what happened?” Serena’s voice trembled with panic as she looked at him. He was supposed to come home with Perez and the others, but they were nowhere to be found.
“We have to send reinforcements. We were ambushed by a group of infected rogues in the woods,” Mathias explained urgently. “They were tough, and my injury was taking longer to heal than expected,”
“Call the pack’s physician to tend to Mathias and Gamma Taylor, instruct him to gather several warriors, and bring them here immediately.” Serena gave orders to the servants who were present, and they swiftly carried them out. Priscilla then ran downstairs upon hearing all the noise. “Where exactly are they?”
“They were in the forest near the plaza, we were completely outnumbered. Luckily, I was able to break free and return home to call for backup since Alpha Perez had lost his ability to use the mind link to contact Gamma.” Mathias explained.
“What? How did it happen? But most importantly, are they okay? Did any of them get seriously hurt?” Serena anxiously asked, her heart beating faster while praying they weren’t injured. After all, she knew that if any of the infected rogue’s saliva entered their bloodstream, they would also become infected.
“Thankfully, no one was hurt besides me. However, they were exhausted and in need of assistance soon. We had to send reinforcements immediately.” Mathias said and just then, Gamma Taylor arrived accompanied by a group of warriors. Serena didn’t hesitate and quickly updated him on the situation before sending them off to join Perez and the rest.
“I’m going too-”
“No,” Serena stopped Priscilla when she tried to follow them, grabbing her hand in hers. “I also want to go, but we can’t leave the packhouse with three of our top members gone. If something were to happen here, who would be left to help me manage the pack?”
“Y–you’re right, I’m rest of the pack.
y I wasn’t thinking.” Priscilla apologized, realizing that she had nearly left Serena alone to handle the
“No, don’t apologize, I understand that you’re worried because I am, too. But consider how Jarren and Perez might react if you went there.” Serena said before pulling her sister–in–law in a hug, “Let’s just wait for them, and pray nothing bad would happen.”
“Everyone, get some first aid and blankets ready.” Serena broke away from the hug and the servants followed suit. Meanwhile, Mathias had already left with the physician to receive treatment. Fortunately, he does not appear to be infected. After all, he claimed that his injury was caused by the impact of hitting a sharp rock after being attacked by a rogue before he could even transform.
“Let’s go to my study and have tea to calm ourselves down.” She grasped Priscilla’s hand, who nodded, leading her upstairs to the study where they patiently awaited the arrival of everyone else.
MEANWHILE, at the forest, Gamma Taylor and the other warriors had finally reached their destination. They were immediately met with a horrifying sight: infected rogues were relentlessly attacking the Alpha and other pack members. Acting quickly, they shifted into their wolf forms and joined the battle to defend themselves and their allies.
id little to deter the enemy as they fought back fiercely until one of the warriors whimpered. Alpha However, their attacks Perez shook gritted his teeth in frustration as he bit into the rogue’s neck and threw it aside. He then rushed to the warrior who had been bitten and was now having a seizure. But, just as quickly as it began, the seizure stopped, and the warrior stood up again. At that moment, Alpha Perez took a step back and growled, recognizing from the warrior’s glazed eyes that he had already been infected.

“I’m sorry,” The Alpha wanted to communicate this message, but he knew the mind link was down. Without hesitation, he sprang towards the attacking warrior and swiftly killed it by severing its neck. He then dragged the lifeless body aside and took a quick glance at the brave warrior before returning to his group, who were still fiercely battling their opponents.
After a few exhausting hours of defending and avoiding bites, the battle had come to an end. The warriors gathered together, using their paws to create a grave for their fallen comrade. They howled together, paying tribute to the brave warrior who had lost his life and mourning the loss of a brother
With Alpha Perez leading the pack, they went home with their wolf forms, and Serena, who caught sight of their silhouettes, knew they had arrived home and quickly warned everyone before running outside to greet her mate. Their expressions were grave as if something terrible had happened. As soon as she realized what was wrong, she grabbed a towel from a servant and crouched down to cover Perez’s wolf as he shifted back into human form.
“It’s not your fault,” She mumbled as her husband embraced her. Suddenly, the rest of them changed back into their human forms and let the servant, who was also the wife of the warrior, know that her husband had been bitten by the infected rogue. Sadly, he had to be put down to prevent him from spreading the infection and suffering any longer.
The servant’s cry reverberated through the house, stirring sympathy in everyone who heard it. Serena clenched her jaw and felt her heart ache at the idea of losing a member of their pack. After all, she knew this might be the first and last time it would happen.
