Chapter 54
“MMNNH.” Serena stirred from her sleep when she felt a strand of hair tickling her cheek. She blinked groggily and saw her husband leaning over her, planting a gentle kiss on her forehead. She rubbed her eyes and when her vision finally cleared, she noticed that he was dressed in his warrior’s attire. “Are you going to work outside again?”
“Yeah, I wanted to go with the other warriors in patrolling our territories.” Alpha Perez reached for her hair and gently brushed it back, his hand lingering on her cheek. A sense of worry settled over Serena, but she refused to let it show. She was well aware of the gravity of the situation, but she didn’t want to add to her husband’s already evident concern.
“You don’t have to worry; I’ll bring Jarren and additional warriors with me,” he reassured, knowing she was anxious about what might happen in their patrol. To be honest, it wasn’t necessary for him to work outside, but knowing the Alpha King was behind the virus and infected rogues made him feel a sense of duty to do so.
“I know you are a strong and resilient person, but if you happen to come across any infected rogues while on patrol, please be careful not to get hurt, okay? Promise me that you will return home safely. You still had yet to mark me.” Serena nuzzled against his palm, earning a smile from Alpha Perez as he leaned in to give a peck on the lips.
He could sense her worry, even last night. The uneasiness and panic in her eyes were clear when he told her about their investigation. As much as possible, he didn’t want to let her know how severe the situation really was, nor did he want to scare her, but doing that would only seem like he didn’t trust or depend on her as his Luna.
“I’ll make sure to come home safely,” He replied as he pressed a final kiss onto his mate’s hand. “I’ll see you later. I should be back before dinner so we can have a meal together.”
“Okay.” She nodded, watching him leave the room and closing the door quietly behind him.
For a moment, she gazed off into nothingness before a surge of resolve took over her. She couldn’t afford to waste any more time staying up in her room now that she had fully recovered from yesterday’s intense training.
She knew she needed to strengthen herself and awaken her inner wolf as quickly as possible in order to assist her husband with their current situation. So, she hopped out of bed and began preparing for the day ahead by taking a bath and throwing on a plain black shirt, pants, and sturdy combat boots.
After eating breakfast with Priscilla and taking a short break, they stepped outside to jog around the packhouse and work on their physical fitness. After thirty minutes of intense movement, both were gasping for breath and drenched in sweat. Serena’s silver hair hung damply around her face and neck, her fair complexion shining from the exertion. She sighed, pulling her hair back into a bun, and took a brief rest before they headed to the training area.
“You look extra determined today; did something happen?” Priscilla asked, noticing the sudden surge of energy emanating from Serena. While she was always dedicated to her training, today she appeared even more determined than usual.
“Well, I just wanted to awaken my wolf as soon as possible because I want to help your brother during this critical time,” She let out a sigh as she explained, understanding the difference in their duties. However, she still couldn’t shake off the feeling of guilt knowing that Perez was risking his life out there while she was safely tucked away in the packhouse as she was either at her study or honing her combat skills.
“Don’t worry, my brother was a menace when it comes to fighting and I was certain that you already saw it with your own eyes. Even if they were to encounter the infected rogues, he would surely return unscathed.” Priscilla put on a confident front, though inside she was just as worried as her sisters–in–law since Jarren had joined the patrol..
“Yeah, but the enemy we were facing wasn’t average by any means. Even Perez’s powerful alpha aura had no effect on the infected rogues, so they had to rely solely on their physical strength.” Serena looked up at the sky, the breeze brushing passed her. “I don’t doubt your brother’s abilities, but we shouldn’t become too complacent. The future is uncertain, and we can never be sure of what it holds.”
“You have a point,” Priscilla nodded, “But we won’t dwell on that right now; it might take your attention away from your training. Today, I will be your training partner, so you must stay focused. After all, I won’t hold back.”

Chapter 54
A small smile tugged at the corners of Serena’s lips as she released her worries and took a deep, cleansing breath. They then began heading towards the training area, and Priscilla didn’t waste any time shifting into her massive wolf form.
Just like Perez, Priscilla’s wolf had striking golden eyes that seemed to glow in the sunlight. Serena couldn’t help but feel a shiver of excitement run through her as she anticipated today’s training session, knowing it would be different from yesterday’s.
“You’re starting without me?” Gamma Taylor’s voice caught their attention as they turned to see him sitting on the bench. “I will watch from here and give you instructions, Luna Serena.”
“Priscilla don’t hold back. Fight Serena with everything you’ve got, just like you would fight an enemy. Today, you are not in- laws but sworn enemies,” he emphasized, determined to make this training session as intense as possible.
“That was my plan all along,” Priscilla communicated through mind link, prompting Gamma Taylor to nod in agreement and give the signal to begin.
