Chapter 53
THE SOUNDS of panting and thudding footsteps reverberated through the training area as Serena pushed herself to her physical limits with Gamma Taylor. After resting for yesterday, she began her training again because, in just two days, she would face a grueling test that would force her wolf to awaken.
“You’re doing good, Luna Serena.” Taylor complimented her while he was chasing her and attacking her. Today’s training focused on physical endurance, which is why they were sprinting around the grounds while also practicing offensive and defensive tactics against each other. “Use more force when you swing your arms.”
Serena did as she was told and swung her arm towards him. Normally, the gamma would evade by crouching, but this time he shielded his arm and attempted to twist Serena’s. However, she deftly defended herself and struck his stomach. Taylor doubled over, clutching his midsection and letting out a small groan. She smirked in satisfaction before aiming a kick at his leg, but he was too agile and evaded the attack.
After pushing through their exhausting training, they decided to take a much–needed break and hydrate themselves. Both were out of breath and drenched in sweat as they sat down on the bench. Taylor wiped his forehead with his shirt sleeve while Serena took a swig of water from her bottle before turning to face him.
“Now that I think about it, what kind of dangerous training Perez was planning to give me? Until now, he still hasn’t mentioned anything about it, he just warned me that it won’t be easy.” Serena pondered curiously. As of now, her husband wasn’t home because he was continuing his investigation into the rogues and their virus, and this time he was accompanied by Mathias, the newest member of the pack.
Since Emilia and Marga weren’t imprisoned, there was a high chance that they might seek revenge against Serena or Mathias for causing chaos in their lives. As a result, Alpha Perez decided to take Mathias as an addition to the pack’s warriors.
“What? He hasn’t told you yet?” Gamma Taylor almost choked on his drink and hurriedly wiped his mouth while looking at Serena, who shook her head. He let out a sigh and set the bottle down next to him. “He should have explained to you already.”
“Is it really that risky? Just explain to me the specifics and I swear I won’t complain.” Serena urged impatiently. “Well, it was the hardest and most dangerous training that warriors are supposed to undergo,
but many younger recruits were getting injured, so we decided to remove it from our regimen.” Gamma Taylor explained, “Basically, you will enter the forest and there will be barriers in place to limit the training grounds.”
Serena simply nodded, focusing intently as she knew it was important to pay close attention and not miss any details.
“As a part of your training, we will release some prison rogues into the forest. This process will begin on your first day, where
you
will have to fend off one rogue. On each subsequent day, the number of rogues released will increase by one until you reach your ultimate goal–to awaken your wolf.”
Serena was taken aback for a moment, the thought of the training alone giving her goosebumps. But if Perez believed it would help her tap into her inner wolf, then she was willing to do it and accept the challenge.
“It indeed sounded dangerous,” She mumbled before taking another sip of her water. Gamma Taylor wanted to reassure her that they were watching out for her safety, with Alpha Perez and Beta Jarren taking turns monitoring her. However, he didn’t want to give Luna a sense of security and jeopardize the effectiveness of their training. The goal was for her to always believe that she was in a life–or–death situation while fighting against rogues after all.
“Should we get back to training?” He suggested, and Serena nodded in agreement. She was determined to improve her endurance and build up her physical strength. As she pushed herself harder, she could feel her blood circulating rapidly through her veins and her body becoming fatigued, yet she didnt mind the sensation. In fact, she found it exhilarating.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, signaling the end of their training for the day, Serena made her way back inside. Her muscles ached from the rigorous exercises, so she indulged in a warm bath to soothe them. The steam rose around her, carrying with it the comforting aroma of lavender. She closed her eyes and let out a content sigh, feeling the tension leave

Suddenly, she opened her eyes when she heard the sound of the main door opening and closing. She then heard footsteps. approaching the bathroom and soon enough, her husband’s gentle knock on the wooden frame echoed inside.
“Are you taking a bath?” he asked.
“Yeah, you want to join me?” As soon as Alpha Perez’s sharp cars caught the question, he didn’t hesitate to throw open the door and hastily strip off his clothes. Serena couldn’t help but chuckle at his eager movements, watching him as he acted like a man on a mission.
“How was the training today?” He kissed her shoulder as he settled in behind her, causing her to lean back and feel his toned chest against her own back.
“Hmm, it was hard, but I was improving with each session. So, every pain in my muscle was worth it,” she chuckled, watching how his fingers brushed across her abdomen. Though it tickled, she allowed him to continue because she knew that touching her was one of his ways of relieving stress.
“And you? How has the investigation been progressing? Have you uncovered any new information today?”
“Yeah,” He nodded, and he let out a frustrated sigh, until now, he was still pissed. “It seemed the virus was purposely created.”
“Huh?” Serena’s gaze widened and she
sat up straight, abruptly turning her heads him. “What do you mean?”
“It was clear that the virus was not a natural occurrence; someone had intentionally created it and there was a chance that it had been deliberately injected into the rogues.” He explained. Though it was merely a hunch with no concrete evidence to support it, he had a strong intuition that his theory could be proven correct in the future. “I also discovered that the two rogues we encountered before weren’t from the northern region, but actually came from the capital city.”
“It seemed someone was trying to make north unstable by spreading the rogues with the virus here.” He added, and even though he didn’t mention any names, Serena could tell who it might be, and her assumptions were confirmed when Alpha Perez continued speaking. “I think the Alpha King had already begun to take action.”
Serena’s heart raced, the implications of her husband’s words sinking in. If the Alpha King was involved, it meant that the situation was far more serious and complex than they had initially thought. The capital city held immense power and influence over all the werewolf packs, and if they were behind the virus and rogue attacks, it could spell disaster for not just their pack but for the rest of the northern region.
“Was he doing it to weaken your power? I mean wasn’t there a speculation that he felt threatened by the amount of power you hold over the north?” she asked, already suspecting the answer but wanting confirmation, nonetheless.
“That seemed like the most likely explanation.” He responded with a frustrated sigh. He had been suspicious of the Alpha King’s silence in recent months and had even anticipated him using Serena against him. However, the fact that he had other plans caught Alpha Perez off guard.
“But how did you know the rogues infected with the virus were from the capital?” Serena couldn’t help but keep asking questions because she wanted to stay informed about the situation and be able to assist her husband if needed.
“Mathias identified one of them; he mentioned that the other rogue was once a member of their neighboring pack when he still lived in the capital city.” Alpha Perez propped his back against the tub, grateful that he had Mathias with him. Without him, he never would have found such an important clue so quickly. “And for safety reasons, we had no choice but to
of the
rogues.” cremate the corpses
“We no longer need them anyway since we already found important information.”
“As of now, there were reports that a few more infected rogues were circulating around the other parts of the north. The other Alphas and I were going to send out patrols continuously and hunt down any rogues, regardless of whether or not they showed signs of infection, to prevent further damage.” His voice was filled with stress, noticeable even to Serena who was simply listening. She couldn’t help but also feel distressed due to the gravity of the current issue. After all, it posed a severe and dangerous threat.

She could only hope that everything would turn out well and the situation wouldn’t escalate too much, enough that a lot of their kind would suffer or worse–die.
