“ARE YOU ENJOYING?” Alpha Perez asked, his gaze fixed on Serena as she emerged from the pool’s cool water. She brushed her silver hair back and glanced up at him, perched on the edge of the pool in his swimming trunks. The women nearby couldn’t help but stare at him with adoration in their eyes, and for some reason, that stirred up a strange feeling inside
Serena.
“Yeah, aren’t you going to swim?” she smiled and took his hand, which surprised Alpha Perez. “Come here, join your wife.”
Serena couldn’t contain her laughter as she dragged him into the water, satisfied that the women who had been checking him out were now looking elsewhere. However, her amusement dimmed when she realized the water only came up to his waist, while it almost reached her chest. The height difference between them was quite big; after all, Alpha Perez stood at 6’4 while Serena was a mere 5’4.
“Your family’s gene was really amazing,” she remarked, remembering the portrait she had seen at the packhouse, it was a photo of the previous Luna and Alpha with their two children. Both Priscilla and Perez shared similar physical traits with their parents–tall stature, tanned skin, and dark hair inherited from their father, while their golden amber eyes were a reflection of their mother’s.
“Right, don’t you want your child to have the same genes?” Alpha Perez’s hand wrapped around Serena’s waist, pulling her towards him as the cool pool water splashed gently around them. Serena then felt her face heat up, fully aware of what he was referring to.
“I’m sure any woman would be lucky to have your genes passed on to their children, but having kids isn’t part of our plan,” she replied with a daydream of what her children would look like if she had become a mother. During her marriage to Calix, she desperately wanted to get pregnant but despite being together for three years, she never conceived. However, he was able to get Marga pregnant after only a year of being together which made her question herself.
Serena couldn’t shake the thought that if she had a problem? Her mind was flooded with endless what–ifs. What if she and Calix had a child? Would he still cheat on her? Or-
“Serena.” Alpha Perez’s voice interrupted her train of thought, causing her to blink and snap out of her daze as she looked at him, “What’s wrong?”
“Uh sorry, it’s nothing… Something just went through my head,” she muttered distractedly.
“Is it your ex?” Serena flinched slightly; her first instinct was to deny it, but she couldn’t bring herself to lie to Alpha Perez, who was always so forthright with her.
“Sorry, since you mentioned children, it made me wonder if I have fertility issues. It’s strange that we were together for three years and I never got pregnant, yet he was able to impregnate my sister within a year of being with her,” she answered hesitantly as she watched him gently wipe pool water off her eyelashes. She couldn’t help but close one eye briefly.
She knew she shouldn’t bring up her ex in front of her new husband as it could be seen as insensitive. But Alpha Perez seemed so understanding and safe that she found herself opening up.
“It’s fine, I understand… But why do you assume you were the problem just because of it? I mean, it could be that he was the problem.” He gave a nonchalant shrug as he placed a hand on her waist and lifted her up to sit on the gutter while he stayed on the water, facing her.
“How? He got Marga pregnan-” Serena’s sentence was cut short as she suddenly understood the implications behind Alpha Perez’s words. “Wait, are you saying that it was possible that Calix was infertile and wasn’t the father of the child inside Marga?”
“Yeah,” He nodded, “Remember when I left the war two months before it ended?”
“Yes, what about it?” she asked with a pounding heart, the conversation growing more intense by the second. She had a feeling that whatever she was about to learn would consume her thoughts for the rest of the day.

“Cesare, your ex’s brother. He also went home, and I happened to see him meeting with a woman in secret.” Alpha Perez rested his hands on the gutter beside Serena while keeping his gaze focused on her. “Her face was mostly hidden by a floppy hat, but I could tell she had the same height and hair color as your sister.”
“W–what?” Serena put her hand on her mouth, shock evident on her face. “Does that mean Cesare and Marga have some sort of relationship?”
“It could be… Do you want me to investigate it? Who knows? He might be the real father of the child.” Alpha Perez shrugged and Serena stared at him in disbelief, struggling to comprehend his words. He knew it was risky to reveal this information to her because it could give her false hope about her relationship with Calix, but he didn’t want her to doubt herself or take responsibility for things that weren’t her fault.
He could only hope that Serena would stay true to her wedding vows and not reconcile with his ex.
“If that were true, it would be the most chaotic karma Calix would ever have,” Serena mumbled under her breath, surprising Alpha Perez.
“I wished he was not the father so I could see the look on his face when the truth came out and laugh about it.” she added as he put her hands on her mate’s shoulder, “Let’s investigate this, it would be a good revenge.”
Alpha Perez’s smile widened, a sense of relief washing over her as she witnessed Serena’s determination to make her ex suffer. At that moment, all of Alpha’s worries faded away.
“All right, we’ll do that.” He nodded and wrapped both of his arms around her waist, gently pulling her closer towards him in the water. “But for now, we need to focus on enjoying and relaxing. Let go of any thoughts about your ex.”
“Yes, sir.” She let out a soft, playful giggle as she wrapped her arms around his neck. For the rest of the day, they were completely absorbed in their enjoyment of the water, only heading back to their hotel room once the sun started to set. After a quick dinner, they settled into bed early, determined to be well–rested for their visit to the first territory on their list the next morning.
Compared to what Serena expected, the territory was a bit run down. Although the main road was paved, it was lined with weeds and debris, and the grassy areas that surrounded it were dry and cracked. Even the walls of the houses on either side showed signs of damage, with visible cracks running through them.

“This is the recent territory I conquered, it almost looked abandoned, isn’t it?” Alpha Perez nodded to the people who greeted them with surprise as they made their way towards the packhouse Howl River pack, “The Alpha of this town was grieving over the loss of his mate during a rogue attack. He became so caught up in his sorrow that he neglected all other responsibilities and eventually ran out of money.”
“B–but you still conquered it?” Serena questioned, looking at him with uncertainty.
“Are you asking that because you think I was cruel or are you genuinely curious about why I would desire to have control over this almost abandoned land?” He glanced back at her and tightened his grip on her waist as they walked, careful not to let her slip on the slick road.
“Both,” she answered.
“This land had a diamond mine that recently collapsed. I took over the territory because of that, but my main motivation was to have the Alpha restore the land’s former glory and bring it back to its previous grandeur.” he explained, “In return for helping him revive the town and its mine, he has agreed to give me a 25% share of the mine’s profits until he has repaid me for the money I invested in rebuilding the town.”
“After everything is back to normal, I plan to reduce my profit percentage from 25% to 10%. That’s a fair compromise, isn’t it?” He grinned and continued, “And on top of that, I’ve formed an alliance, which was my goal. It was mutually beneficial for both parties, wasn’t it?”
“It is, and no one could possibly turn down such a generous offer Serena nodded, impressed by his generosity. He didn’t seem to have a selfish bone in his body, which explained why the people of the north held him in such high esteem despite his conquest of their lands. Everything he did, he always made sure that it was beneficial to both parties.

“Are you Emilia’s younger daughter?!” Serena was startled as a man came out of nowhere and grabbed her arm. Alpha Perez immediately pushed him away, his eyes narrowing in a way that made it seem like he could transform into his wolf and ripped the man to shreds at any moment.
“Back off!” He let out a fierce growl, causing the man in his mid–50s to step back immediately. Serena shivered, feeling the powerful dominance of his Alpha aura, “How dare you touch my wife. Who are you?!”
“I–I’m sorry. I just got caught off guard when I saw her.” he put his hand together, looking nervously at Alpha Perez, “Please forgive my impertinence. I am Matias,”
“It’s all right, Perez.” Serena gently placed her hand on his arm, moving it away from protecting her. She then offered a reassuring smile, causing him to release a sigh and relax. Once she saw that he was calm, she turned back to Matias.
“How do you know my mother?” Her expression turned serious as her heart pounded in her chest. She couldn’t explain it, but she felt uneasy. Matias took a deep breath and glanced down at his feet before meeting her gaze, determined to make the most of this chance encounter. He had been planning to visit the Blood Moon Pack after seeing the newspaper, but now it seemed unnecessary since Serena was already here.
“I am her ex–lover, and I know I got her pregnant before she broke up with me.” The words that he uttered made Serena’s eyes widen, her mouth automatically forming an O shape, while she held on tightly to Alpha Perez’s hand.
“What?!” she frowned, unable to believe what he had just heard.
“I am saying that I’m your older sister’s biological father.”
