Chapter 10
THE SOUND of a hand slapping against skin echoed through the packhouse, causing everyone who witnessed the scene to gasp. Serena, however, simply smiled and gently rubbed her stinging cheek where Alpha Robert had struck her as soon as she returned home. She had anticipated this reaction, but it still addened her that his father would resort to physical violence against her.
“How dare you disobey my order!” He shouted, making Serena burst into laughter before turning her head towards him. Alpha Robert’s finger twitched at the sight of her piercing blue eyes which were a mirror image of his own. There was no doubt about it; his once affectionate and obedient daughter had transformed into a rebellious young woman who no longer sought his approval. Her defiant attitude and lack of respect made it clear that she had broken free from her shell
“Why? Do you truly think I could bear to remain here after everything that has been done to me?” Serena’s hand balled up into a tight fist, as she struggled to keep her anger in check. The maids, Luna, beta, and other servants all watched her with curious eyes. And the fact that Marga and Calix were not there suggested they had been punished with confinement rather than something more severe.
“Honestly, I’m disappointed Alpha Robert,” She added, causing her father to furrow his brows. It was hard for him to believe that she was calling him by his formal title instead of just saying “Dad” like she used to. A sense of guilt began to gnaw at him, but he pushed it aside; he didn’t want any unnecessary emotions to distract him. “To think that a proud Alpha like you would handle things poorly just because I wasn’t the favored daughter…”
“I swallowed my frustrations and accepted your decision to send me to war instead of Marga. I stayed quiet when you officially declared her as the heiress while I was risking my life on the battlefield. And even when I returned, unwelcomed and unappreciated, I didn’t voice my complaints.” Serena’s voice was quivering with suppressed emotion. “But this is where I draw the line–I’ve been pushed over one too many times now.
She took a deep breath and scanned the faces of those watching her intently. Her gaze softened as she looked at her Nanny Annie, who had tears in her eyes and a look of concern. She gave a faint smile, but it quickly turned bitter as she turned to Luna Emilia, who was scowling at her, and Alpha Robert, whose expression was unreadable.
“I was the one who was betrayed, yet you’re still choosing to support Marga, who is carrying my mate’s child?” Serena’s question hung in the air, causing her parents to stare at her with surprise. They had not anticipated her revealing this information in front of everyone.
Whispers started to spread among the pack members and Serena winced as she caught a glimpse of the fury blazing in her father’s icy blue gaze. Still, she pushed aside any fears and mirrored their anger.
“What the hell do you think- Luna Emilia moved quickly towards Serena; her hand ready to grab a handful of hair. But before she could make contact, Alpha Robert intervened and pulled her away.
“Stop. Don’t make things any worse than they already are.” he muttered before commanding everyone to continue with their duties. His tone made it clear that there would be dire consequences if anyone disobeyed. In response, everyone scattered in a hurry, leaving the three of them standing alone in the center of the house.
“I understand you were hurt, but how could you try to damage your sister’s image like that? Yes, she and your husband made a mistake, but can’t you see their perspective? It wasn’t their intention-
“Do you realize how stupid you sounded, Luna Emilia?” Serena cut her off, causing her mother’s eyes to widen in shock and her lips to tremble with disbelief.
“Did you just say stupid-”
“Yes stupid! Didn’t you hear what I said yesterday? My time in the war was filled with constant agony. That means they were engaging in sexual activity multiple times! They were having an affair!” Serena’s voice grew louder with every word, and it seemed to have a lot of impact on her father who was torn between allowing her to vent her anger and disciplining her for being insolent..
“How could you justify your daughter’s action just because she’s your favorite? And you call yourself a Luna-

“Enough!” Alpha Robert’s powerful voice filled the entire house, causing the two women to fall silent under his intense gaze. “No matter how hurt you are, you can’t question our position and disrespect us, we’re still your parents!”
“Parents?” Serena scoffed, running her hands through her hair. Since when did you act like parents to me?”
The couple couldn’t help but flinch at her question, as it revealed their own self–awareness that they had never treated. Serena with fairness. Alpha Robert clenched his fist, no matter how he looked at it, he had been unfair to her.
Although he recognized her intelligence and potential to become the next leader of their park, there were moments when he couldn’t fully acknowledge her because his wife constantly reminded him not to give up on and forget Marga, which made it difficult for him to fully pay attention to their youngest member.
“See? You can’t even answer a simple question. It’s just another example of how horribly you treated me.” She shook her head, determined to hold back her tears even though the pain was almost unbearable. She had hoped to see a sign of remorse or hear a simple apology, but as predicted, they both stayed silent.
“I’m exhausted, I still have to process my divorce with Calix so, would you mind giving me a break?” She was about to walk past them, but Luna Emilia pulled on her arm to prevent her from leaving
“You’re divorcing him?” Serena furrowed her brow in response to her mother’s question. It was clear that she was concerned about how the divorce would affect Marga’s reputation,
Until the very end, she still stood by her eldest daughter who had brought disgrace to the pack.
“Why? You want me to remain married to a man who got my sister pregnant?” she asked, pulling back her arm. “Once I file for divorce, I will leave this pack… I wanted to be free from this hellhole, and it would be nice if you could at least try to sympathize with me…”
“No, let’s find another way-“Luna Emilia paused and watched her daughter walk away before looking at her husband who had stopped her.
“Enough, let her be. No matter how I think about it, everything she said makes perfect sense. Her actions and words were not without reason.” Alpha Robert sighed and rubbed his temple in frustration.
He knew that things were only going to get more complicated from this point on. Not only did the other members already know about Marga’s pregnancy and her affair with Calix, but Serena’s desire to leave the pack would have a major impact on their business. After all, she had played a significant role in its growth and success, bringing it closer to profitability than ever
before
“Are you seriously letting that slide? How about Marga’s reputation—”
“Stop! Marga was the one who got herself into this situation. If you want to minimize the fallout from their affair, then take action to prevent it from becoming known outside of the pack. Alpha Robert snapped, his head aching. He was tired of dealing with this kind of situation and, though he wanted to protect Marga’s reputation, he couldn’t continue indulging her and made her think that she could do everything she wanted.
She was soon to become the Luna of Crescent pack and she needed to think and act like one. Besides, Serena’s anger made him realize a lot and his instincts were telling him to respect her wishes, or else he would end up regretting it.
“MY DEAR.” Annie’s tears began to flow as soon as Serena arrived in front of her room. She tried to hold on to her own tears but couldn’t hold them any longer. She hugged her nanny tightly before they went inside the room. For a few minutes, Serena wept while being comforted by the only parental figure she would acknowledge from now on.
“Were you aware of their affair, nanny?” Serena asked once she had calmed down and composed herself. She then turned to her nanny who nodded while sitting next to her on the bed.
“Every time I missed you, I would visit your chamber. But one night, I noticed the lights were on and the door was slightly ajar,” Annie began explaining as she gently stroked Serena’s hand. “I thought you had finally come back, but when I peeked inside, I caught a glimpse of Marga and Calix engaging in intimate activity on this very bed.”
