At first, Gwain felt a glimmer of hope, thinking he had found a way to avoid a direct confrontation with Emmanuel. But by the time Zen Master finished speaking, he realized the situation had only gotten worse.
“Mr. Gwain, considering the bigger picture, you should challenge Yorick first,” Clive added from the side, though whether he spoke out of genuine intent or mischief was unclear.
Only Wyatt truly sympathized with Gwain, now stuck in a dilemma–trapped between a wolf and a tiger, both of which he has no hope of defeating.
What to do? To the left stands the wolf, and to the right, the savage tiger. And he can’t beat either of them.
At that moment, Gwain wanted nothing more than to tear Gautier and Zen Master apart with his teeth.
“Hahaha…” Nathan burst into laughter. “Gwain Lannister! Weren’t you acting all high and mighty on your way up the mountain? Always bragging about being number one, with no north or south–only you reigning supreme! So, what’s the problem now? Chickening out? Everyone’s watching and listening, you know!”
“Yeah, yeah, I can vouch for that! Mr. Chapman’s telling the truth–I heard it too!” Blake quickly chimed in, working in perfect harmony with Nathan. “Since you’re so invincible, just pick one already–hahaha…”
All eyes fell on Gwain. The more reserved among them wore faint smiles, while the less polite openly whispered and chuckled.
It was as if Gwain had been thrown onto a burning grill, slowly roasting in the heat of everyone’s expectations.
Even Mackenzie, who had remained silent until now, finally spoke up. “Mr. Gwain, I’ve long admired your reputation. Since you refuse to be compared with my husband, you must possess true skill. Originally, my husband intended to fight for Chanaea, but now it seems only right to give that honor to someone more capable. Don’t you agree?”
“Exactly! Couldn’t have said it better myself!” Beatrix immediately echoed her sister’s words.
Angela and Hattie followed suit, supporting Mackenzie’s effort to shift the pressure away from Emmanuel. None of them wanted to see Emmanuel exhaust himself fighting Yorick, only for Gwain or Gautier to swoop in and claim an easy victory. That would be the worst possible outcome.

Forced into a corner, Gwain had no choice but to step forward, pushed inch by inch by the pressure of the
crowd.
Yet luck seemed to favor him–before he could make his choice, Yorick spoke up, his voice clear and commanding.
“Gwain Lannister is unworthy of being my opponent. If a Chanacan must face me, then it shall be you, Emmanuel!”
“You-” Gwain’s already humiliated face turned beet red.
He wanted to lash out, but he had to swallow his anger. After all, he had no confidence in facing Yorick. If he kept arguing, Yorick might just blurt out the fact that he could defeat Gwain within three moves.
“Yeah, Emmanuel! Weren’t you acting all cocky just now?”
“Didn’t you say our Shoiyan martial saint was simply mediocre? Well, come on, then–try him for yourself!”
“Afraid you won’t last a single move against our martial saint? Hahaha…”
Kellan and the other Shoiyans immediately joined in, echoing Yorick’s taunts at Emmanuel.

Yorick met his eyes and said, “You saved Zen Master’s life. With Santiago absent, you’re the only worthy opponent left. Whether it’s you against ten of us or ten of us against you, it makes no difference to me.”
As a martial saint, Yorick lived by his own code, caring neither for the opinions of others nor their judgment. He fought who he wanted to fight, and he killed who he wanted to kill–simple as that.

Since Gautier had orchestrated this entire trap, he deserved to die first.
