A burst of laughter cut him off.
Kellan and the Shoiyans sneered.

“Bald friar, even without hair, you should at least have some pride!”
The Shoiyans mocked freely, fueling the hostility.
Gwain and Aora arrived just in time to hear the insults.

It was Veronica.

“Yes. I figured you wouldn’t take the same route as Mr. Hale, so I made a few preparations,” she responded, waving her hand.
A deep rumble echoed behind her.
Emmanuel and Mackenzie turned–and their eyes widened.
“Whoa! Giant battle trucks and beast blaster cannons!” Beatrix gasped.
Lined up behind Veronica were armored military vehicles and heavy artillery units.
Beatrix wasn’t concerned about their names or where they had come from. She only cared about one thing–how thrilling this was.
However, Mackenzie kept her focus.
“Ms. Veronica, what’s all this for?” she asked.
Veronica’s voice was steady. “You all know what’s waiting up there. Everyone is expecting Emmanuel to walk into a trap. The Wolf Warrior Unit hasn’t arrived yet. The forces around you are scattered. You need support.”
She gestured toward the vehicles. “These are for you. The Zovince checkpoint is up ahead. If you want to make it through, you’ll need more than just determination.”
Emmanuel nodded thoughtfully. He realized that he could enter without being seen if he went solo. However, to take his people along, there was only one option–he needed to breach the checkpoint.
Angela hesitated. “Emmanuel… are we really doing this?”
Mackenzie also looked at him, waiting for his call.
Emmanuel chuckled. “We’ve come this far. Ms. Veronica went out of her way for us–we mig is well go all in.”
Mackenzie stayed quiet. Instead, she grasped Emmanuel’s hand tightly as if to signal that she would be there for him no matter what happened next.
