New Year’s Eve was a night many people eagerly anticipated.
For children, in particular, the night felt extraordinarily special–filled with unforgettable moments, making it seem to stretch on forever. Yet, they weren’t the only ones who felt that way.
Captured by Aora, Ashton was forced up the mountain toward the Chapel of Oros.
At the foot of the chapel, a small group of Franciscan friars stopped them, questioning their unauthorized presence. But Aora, unwilling to be delayed, snapped. In a fit of fury, she cut them down, leaving their lifeless bodies scattered across the chapel grounds.
“You maniac! Monster! You’re worse than an animal!” Terrified and furious at Aora’s cruelty, Ashton shoute at him in outrage.
“Hehe…” Aora’s face was flushed red with the thrill of the slaughter and the chaotic energy surging through his body. His laughter was unhinged, almost demonic.
Luckily, his cultivation was strong enough that his deviation was only in its early stages–he could still regain control.
After his eerie laughter subsided, he tied Ashton tightly to a chapel pillar before sitting cross–legged to regulate his energy flow.
Meanwhile, in the darkness beyond the chapel, figures were stealthily approaching.
“Master Lively, hurry! Ashton is inside that chapel!” Nathan pointed ahead, urging them forward.
He couldn’t just stand by–Ashton had been captured because of him. Rescuing her wasn’t about love; it was about honor.
Aurora and Ostrich followed closely behind him.
Since they had chosen not to report Ashton’s capture to Emmanuel, they were now fully committed to rescuing her.
As members of the Black Wolf Team, they specialized in reconnaissance and intelligence gathering- sneaking up the mountain unseen was second nature to them.
It was Aurora who had tracked Ashton’s unique scent, leading Nathan and Gale to this location.
Right now, allies on Divine Mountain were scarce.
Understanding the risks, Gale grabbed Nathan’s arm, stopping him from charging ahead.
“Mr. Chapman, we’ve left the designated safe zone of the Chapel of Oros. We can’t afford to be reckless–we must proceed cautiously.”
The chapel was responsible for the safety of the Chapman Estate personnel, but now that they had left the assigned area, they were on their own. If something happened, the chapel wouldn’t be responsible.
“If we don’t hurry, that lunatic Aora might harm Ashton!”

“D*mn it! Ashton isn’t… dead, is she?” Nathan was growing more desperate.
Aurora reassured him, “Her scent isn’t mixed with the blood–she’s still alive.”
He blinked in surprise. “You can tell that just by scent? Even dogs aren’t that sharp!” Realizing how that sounded, he quickly corrected himself. “Miss Aurora, I didn’t mean to insult you! Please don’t take offense.”
“I know,” she replied impatiently. “Enough talking. We need to move–Aora hasn’t moved for a while.”
“Alright!”
Nathan finally reined in his emotions and followed Gale as they crept toward the chapel, but before they could enter, Aora suddenly snapped his eyes open.
“Who’s there?!”
Just as they thought they’d been exposed, a lone figure stepped into the chapel–it was Gautier.
“Mr. Verkade? Is that you?”
Aora was fiercely loyal to Teddy. Not knowing how Teddy had died, he still held some respect for Gautier as Teddy’s successor.
In fact, with Teddy gone, a subconscious sense of duty made him inclined to support Gautier as the next leader.
“It’s me, Aora. Are you alright?”
Gautier knew exactly how to win people over. Aora was a powerful force–securing his loyalty was crucial. “I’m fine,” Aora replied, though fatigue lingered in his voice. “Just exhausted from my fight with Gwain earlier. I just need some time to recover.”
Aora still showed a hint of gratitude as she said, “Thank you for your concern, Mr. Verkade.”
“What are you talking about?” Gautier patted his shoulder and smiled, continuing, “Amethyst, Ash, and Azure are all gone. If Aora doesn’t mind, we’ll stick together through thick and thin from now on.” Aora’s eyes suddenly turned blood red, with a hint of sparkle! No matter how brutal he was, he was still human. Even the bad guys had emotions, and even villains were capable of love. He had valued the bond with Amethyst, Ash, and Azure.
“Alright. From now on, you and I are brothers. If you ever have any orders, as the Boss, I’ll definitely make sure to get them done for you!” Aora exclaimed excitedly.
“Ha, only you would believe this hypocrite!” Ashton couldn’t help but scoff.

“Don’t waste your energy, Aora,” he remarked calmly. “She’s just trying to provoke you into killing her. Keep her alive–she might still be useful when dealing with Emmanuel.”
Aora hesitated, then nodded.
“You’re right, Gautier. You truly are sharp. Teddy was right to put his trust in you.”
“Ugh!”
Hearing their exchange, Ashton nearly gagged.
“You ungrateful wretch!” Aora scowled at her, then, losing patience, delivered a swift chop to her neck, knocking her unconscious.
“Ashton-”
Outside, Nathan almost cried out in alarm, fearing Aora had killed her.
Gale reacted quickly, covering his mouth before he could expose their position.
Aora was strong, and in his current state, Nathan wouldn’t stand a chance against him.
But while Aora remained unaware of their presence, Gautier was more perceptive. He suddenly turned, his sharp gaze sweeping the surroundings.
Gale instinctively pressed Nathan down, keeping them hidden in the shadows.
“What specifically brings you to look for me, Mr. Verkade?” came Aora’s curiosity.
“Aora,” Gautier said, turning back. “I came here not only to check on you but also to ask for your help in eliminating someone.
“Oh?” Aora’s interest was piqued. “Who?”
“There’s someone in the Chapel of Oros right now who indirectly caused Mr. Teddy’s death,” Gautier remarked.
