The next morning in Zovince, Emmanuel returned from a conversation with Ethan and finally had a good night’s rest.
At dawn, Ashton and Nathan burst into his room, bringing great news.
“Master, Xylie’s awake!”
“What?!” Emmanuel bolted upright and dashed straight for the other room without even putting on his
shoes.
Inside, Veronica and Gale were already present.
Veronica had brought in the Chapman family’s top medical team to save Xylie’s life. Without their intervention, her frail body might not have survived the ordeal.
“Xylie! Xylie!”
Emmanuel stormed into the room, his entrance so forceful it caused everyone’s hair and clothing to flutter in the resulting breeze.
Gale turned to Veronica and exclaimed, “Ms. Veronica, your brother’s mentor is a monster. He was seriously injured just a few days ago, yet now he’s back on his feet as if nothing happened!”
Veronica simply nodded in agreement.
For an ordinary person, injuries like his would’ve been fatal. But for Emmanuel, breaking medical norms was practically second nature.
Ignoring the conversation, Emmanuel focused entirely on Xylie.
Her chest had been struck by a bullet, and now her body was wrapped in so many bandages she resembled
a mummy.
He carefully inspected her wounds, his gaze falling on her chest. To his surprise, he noticed a faint pink birthmark near her collarbone. At first glance, he thought it was a tattoo, but knowing Xylie’s reserved nature, that seemed unlikely. Upon closer examination, he realized it was a birthmark shaped like a blooming peach blossom.
“Emmanuel…”
Her soft voice snapped him out of his thoughts. Xylie slowly opened her eyes, a shy yet pained expression on her face.
Though Emmanuel’s intentions were entirely innocent, she couldn’t help but feel self–conscious under his scrutinizing gaze.
Realizing this, he quickly pulled the blanket over her chest and sighed in relief. “It’s a miracle you’re alive.”
“Mm–hmm.”
Xylie wasn’t much of a talker. She simply nodded, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.

Don’t worry about anything else–nobody will ever force you into anything as long as I’m around.”
“Thank you, Emmanuel,” she whispered, her voice trembling with emotion.
Xylie tightened her grip on his hand, reluctant to let go

Nathan and Ashton, standing by the door, couldn’t help but notice the tender exchange.
Veronica pulled Nathan aside into another room, her expression serious.
“Nath, it’s obvious Xylie has feelings for your mentor. If that’s the case, it’s going to be hard for you to marry her.”
Hearing his sister’s comment, Nathan burst out laughing. “Haha, come on, Emmanuel’s a hero. Isn’t it natural for women to fall for him? Besides, I’ve got so many girlfriends already–adding one more doesn’t make a difference, and losing one isn’t a big deal either!
“So, do you want to marry Ashton?” Veronica asked directly.
“Uh… well, I haven’t decided yet!” Nathan replied, his tone as carefree as ever. “Mom and Dad aren’t pushing me to get married anyway. Since the marriage alliance with the Tanners is off, I might as well keep enjoying myself for a while. There are still plenty of beautiful women to explore–I’m not ready to settle down yet, haha…”
Veronica could only shake her head at her brother’s shameless response. How could he say something so outrageous with such confidence?
When it came to being a playboy, he was just as bad–if not worse–than their father!
However, Veronica also understood that if her brother were to marry Xylie, their parents would undoubtedly approve. After all, the match was perfectly aligned with their family’s status.
If he were to marry Ashton, though, that would be an entirely different matter.
Despite Ashton being related to Emmanuel, her humble background meant she wasn’t a suitable match for someone from a family as prestigious as the Chapmans.
The Chapman family, having held the title of wealthiest for generations, maintained exceptionally high standards for their heir–not only in capability but especially when it came to their spouse.
From Veronica’s perspective, she sincerely hoped her brother wouldn’t develop genuine feelings for Ashton.
Just then, more commotion erupted outside the room.
Nathan perked up at the noise and darted off to investigate.
“Commander Lowe!”
Albin arrived outside Xylie’s room, his voice firm and urgent. “There are multiple important matters I need to report to you!”
Emmanuel emerged from the room immediately and said, “Everyone in this house is trusted. Speak freely.”

“Yes, sir!” Albin responded promptly.

“First, General Sage Payne has returned. Although he’s gravely injured, his life is no longer in danger.”
“That’s excellent news,” Emmanuel said, his relief evident. “Take me to him immediately.”
“However,” Albin interjected, “there’s something even more pressing. The commander–in–chief’s wife has arrived in Zovince. She’s traveling via private jet and will be landing shortly.”
“Really?!” Emmanuel’s face lit up with joy. It had been over a month since he’d last seen Mackenzie, let alone held her in his arms.
“Yes, sir. The jet is landing at the Chapman family’s private helipad, which isn’t far from here. She departed last night, but we refrained from disturbing you since you were discussing national affairs with Mr. Hale. Along with her are your son and several members of the Wolf Warrior Unit.”
Emmanuel Lowe was rarely one to openly express his joy, but after being apart from his wife and child for so long, he simply couldn’t suppress his excitement any longer!
After a moment of thought, he sighed and decided to prioritize his family over his duties this time–he’d go pick up his wife and child first, and then he would visit Sage Payne afterward.
The sound of the helicopter blades slicing through the air soon reached their ears.
Emmanuel and Albin hurried to the helipad, just in time to see a military transport helicopter slowly descending.
Mackenzie stood at the helicopter’s door, her expression stoic, lost in her thoughts. But the gleam in her beautiful eyes revealed that she, too, was eagerly awaiting the reunion.
“Mackenzie!!”
The call came quicker than she had anticipated.
As the helicopter came to a complete stop, her eyes landed on Emmanuel standing safely on the ground beneath her. Her serious expression slowly shifted, a gentle smile beginning to bloom on her face.
“Emmanuel!”
Mackenzie felt her heart race as she shouted back, unable to suppress the joy that bubbled inside her, yet strangely, no smile appeared on her face. Deep down, all she could feel was impatience.
“Mackenzie, you’re finally here! I’ve been so worried about you!”
Emmanuel couldn’t wait for Mackenzie to step off the helicopter. Ignoring the presence of others, both on the plane and on the helipad, he pulled her into a deep embrace.
“Emmanuel, you’re alright!”
Mackenzie’s eyes reddened slightly. “I was so worried about you too. I heard you were ambushed by a group of skilled fighters and badly injured. Even now, my heart still races when I think about it!”
Those around them couldn’t help but smile at the sight of such a genuine display of affection.
This was true love between husband and wife.
