Fortunately, Anna’s voice snapped him out of it.
Regaining his composure, Rhett leaped back, cold sweat trickling down his face. He hadn’t expected to fall victim to the enemy’s illusion so easily.
Moreover, he still had no idea how the illusion had been cast.
Even though it lasted only a moment, he knew that if it had been a one–on–one battle and Isabella had aimed to kill, he likely wouldn’t have escaped alive.
It was clear to him that her internal energy far surpassed his. Such terrifying mastery likely signified that she had reached the Sage level.
From his understanding of the Holy Trinity, Rhett was certain that the woman before him–Isabella–was one of their three legendary leaders.
“Rhett, are you alright?”
Mackenzie approached him, concern evident in her expression. It was the first time she had seen Rhett so
shaken.

Yet, Mackenzie remained unmoved. “Even if I die, the Wolf Warrior will press forward. At that point, you will face their wrath, and we shall all be buried here together.”
Lady Rosa, standing nearby, was visibly unsettled by this declaration.
Isabella could see that Mackenzie was serious. Curiosity piqued, she asked, “Why would you rather die than eradicate the Five Poison Sect? Surely our grievances aren’t so irreconcilable?”
Mackenzie smiled serenely. “Living requires faith, does it not?”
She continued, “My life is expendable. Eliminating the Five Poison Sect will enable my grandpa to secure the position of the president of the Chamber of Commerce and support Ethan in becoming the next president. I firmly believe that is the path to prosperity for the West End and Chanaea.”
Lady Rosa couldn’t help but feel a sense of respect for Mackenzie’s conviction and glanced at her master.
Isabella smiled faintly. “I respect those with faith, but is there a possibility that your faith is misplaced? Ethan may not necessarily be better than the other two candidates.”
“I trust my husband.” Mackenzie’s response was resolute, her gaze unwavering.
Realizing further debate would be futile, Isabella decided to play her trump card. “But, if you do not withdraw your forces, your child may die.”
“What?”
Mackenzie’s composure cracked, her expression betraying alarm.
Rhett and Anna were equally stunned.
“Though such tactics are despicable, I have no choice,” Isabella admitted. “You have your faith, and I have mine. Just as you said, we will do whatever it takes to achieve victory.”
“You vile woman!” Anna gritted her teeth, cursing. “Who would’ve thought that the renowned Maestro Moretti could stoop so low?”
Isabella ignored the insult.
Mackenzie found herself at a crossroads, torn between conflicting priorities.
“Ms. Quillen, to be honest, I greatly admire you. Unfortunately, our paths are irreconcilable. I have no desire to kill you or harm an innocent child. So, please make a wise decision,” Isabella said earnestly.
“How can you prove that my child is in your hands?”
Mackenzie, calm and sharp as ever, refused to be rattled by her opponent’s words.

“Rosa, escort her out,” Isabella instructed.

Lady Rosa then led Anna away.
Soon, Anna reached the main camp and found Magnus and the others.
“Mr. Zelinsky, Her Holiness‘ child has been taken hostage by the Five Poison Sect. Did you know about this?” Anna asked urgently.
Magnus‘ expression turned complex, but he nodded.
“What do we do? If Her Holiness learns this, she might be forced to retreat, and the sacrifices of our warriors will have been in vain.” Anna’s voice was filled with anxiety.
“So, you must delay relaying this information to Mrs. Lowe.”
Magnus, though unaware of the exact details, had already deduced much of the situation.
Anna was astonished. “Mr. Zelinsky, you already guessed what’s happening?”
Magnus chuckled. “Adding everything together, it’s not hard to figure out that the Five Poison Sect’s leader has kidnapped the child to force Mrs. Lowe’s retreat. If I’m not mistaken, the leader must be Isabella Moretti, correct?”
“Mr. Zelinsky, you’re incredible. What should I do now Relieved by Magnus‘ presence, Anna sought his guidance.
