After the successful fundraiser, the anti–bandit alliance convoy continued its
journey toward Riverhaven. The trip passed uneventfully, and once the
supplies reached Riverhaven, they temporarily relieved the immediate crisis.
However, Mackenzie’s troubles were far from over.
“Ms. Quillen, there are still six days left until your ten–day deadline. How are
you planning to recover our missing supplies?”
“Yeah, maybe you should just reimburse us directly. Aren’t you loaded
anyway?”
A group of West End bigwigs crowded around Mackenzie, hands
outstretched, demanding answers.

Mackenzie couldn’t be bothered to engage with them. Instead, Quintus
appeared, dragging along Anthony, who wore his usual mournful expression.

gathered in Vinehurst managed to handle the immediate crisis, people and
the media are still harping on about the lost supplies. They’re even saying if
those supplies had reached Riverhaven, it might’ve been enough to
completely handle the disaster!”
“Enough! Stop making such a racket. We still have time left on the ten–day
deadline, so don’t show up here every day to hassle me!” Mackenzie wasn’t
exactly the pushover type; she flashed the cold, authoritative side of her
executive persona and had Quintus quickly escort the troublemakers out of
her sight.

While Mackenzie was still stewing over the matter, Lexi approached her and
reported, “Ms. Quillen, I’ve got news from Anna. She said they’ve spotted
some suspicious clues and sent over photos and videos.”
“Let me see them!” Mackenzie had a hunch that the bandits wouldn’t have
anticipated the blockade, so they probably hadn’t covered their tracks
perfectly. Somewhere, they must’ve left a clue that would lead them to the
hidden cache.
“Ms. Quillen, these photos show tire tracks in the snow in front of the lake that
seem recent, though they’ve been partially buried by rocks and snowfall,” Lexi
explained. “But that’s the only spot with tracks; there are none in the
surrounding area! They suspect the supply trucks may have passed by the
lake and tried to escape, but even after searching the vicinity for two days,
they still turned up nothing.”

After studying the photos, Mackenzie closed her eyes, lost in thought, and

then suddenly picked up a different photo and examined it. She snapped her
eyes open, a spark of realization lighting them up. “Lexi, get a car ready–1
ant to check out the site myself!”
“Right away. Have you figured something out, Ms. Quillen?” Lexi couldn’t help
but ask, her curiosity piqued.
“I’ve got a theory, but I need to verify it on–site,” Mackenzie replied, exuding
quiet confidence.
Quintus, too, seemed eager to get involved. “Those freaking bandits sure are
sneaky. I’m dying to know how they made a fleet of supply trucks vanish into
thin air!”

Before long, Mackenzie and her team were out of the disaster relief
command center.
Qutside, a mob of reporters had already gathered, waiting eagerly. The
moment Mackenzie stepped out, they swarmed around, shoving cameras in

no patience, for reporters paid to nitpick every failure while ignoring any
success.
“Quintus! Stand down!” Mackenzie swiftly intervened, stopping Quintus from

throwing a punch. She knew who precisely had arranged for these reporters
to be here, but striking them would only blow things out of proportion, making
the situation even harder to explain.
“Haha! I just thought this guy had an interesting look about him, so I wanted
to see what makes him special! I’m not here to hit anyone! Everyone knows
I’m a civilized, handsome gentleman!” Quintus laughed, then suddenly
slammed his fist into the ground, creating a crack that immediately made
the reporters back up, leaving a wide–open space.

“Ladies and gentlemen, let me clarify something here!” Mackenzie began, her
tone calm but firm. “As the leader of the anti–bandit alliance, any losses
incurred during anti–bandit operations are my responsibility. But the stolen

goods and treasures from Silvergate? Those weren’t lost during our

Quintus burst out laughing, “Exactly! So, stop dumping all this nonsense on
Mackenzie!”
“And secondly!” she continued, prompting him to zip it instantly. “Our efforts
against the bandits haven’t failed. We’ve dismantled multiple bandit hideouts
and are still pursuing those who managed to slip away. When we claim a
decisive victory, you’ll be the first to know, so don’t miss it!”
With that, she brushed past the reporters with an icy elegance, leaving them
in her wake.
“That’s right! You’re all so eager today, but don’t skip out when we come back

beyond this, we found only a few traces–no other tracks of a convoy moving
through. I suspect they drove right into the lake. We even searched
underwater but found nothing. It’s infuriating!” Anna gritted her teeth, visibly
upset.

“You all have done wonderful!” Mackenzie offered a slight smile,
acknowledging their efforts. She then carefully examined the tire tracks and
scanned the surrounding area. Finally, she lifted her gaze, staring intently at
e top of a nearby hill.
No one knew what she was thinking, and while Quintus and Anna seemed
about to speak, Rhett gave them a look that stopped them in their tracks,
silently cautioning them not to interrupt her thoughts.
Suddenly, Mackenzie’s eyes lit up. She strode purposefully toward the base of
the hill. Although the snow from recent days had buried many signs, she was
certain she could see traces of intentional tampering here.
“That’s it! The supplies have got to be buried in the lake!” she exclaimed,
