Chapter 9
Ethan’s face darkened. As the CEO of a public company, he wasn’t used to being humiliated–especially by his wife’s subordinate
“You dare speak to me like that? I’m your president’s husband, the son in law of Oakwood Enterprises?”
He quickly adjusted to my new identity and turned to me, his tone ingratiating
Claire, this is all a misunderstanding. Let’s talk about it at home.”
I won’t agree to a divorce.”
This wasn’t up to him. My lawyer stepped forward and said firmly,
“Mr Walker, we have substantial evidence of your infidelity. If you refuse to sign the divorce papers, we will file charges for adultery, bigamy, and Birreconcilable differences.
Ethan frowned, looking at me bitterly.
“Do you really want to divorce me? Why can’t you forgive me just once?”
I couldn’t help but laugh at his shamelessness.
“If you don’t sign, I’ll print thousands of copies of your scandalous photos and distribute them on the streets. If you can handle that, feel free to refuse.”
With that, I walked past him without a second glance.
The divorce went more smoothly than expected. My daughter chose to stay with her father.
When I asked why, she looked at me coldly and said,
“I don’t want you. You always make me eat healthy and scold me. Aunt Sophie is nice to me. I want Daddy to marry her so she can be my mom.”
Her childish words cut deeper than I expected. I thought I had hardened myself, but my heart still ached.
As I bet the courthouse, Ethan stopped me, his face filled with guilt and desperation.
Tythere really no chance for us? I know I was wrong, but I’ve changed.”
“Don’t you care that our daughter will grow up without her mother? I want to give her a complete family.”
I smiled coldly, unmoved.
“Now you care about her? Was she on your mand when you were with Sophie?
“Stop playing the devoted father. Go home and act for her, not me.
Frustrated by my resistance. Ethan finally pleaded.
“I know I don’t deserve your help, but the company is my life’s work. Please, don’t let it fall apart.”
His company was on the v
verge of collapse–clients leaving, stocks crashing, payroll overdue. He was desperate.
“You still
own part of it. If it collapses, it hurts you too.”
He thought his desperation would make me forgive him. But this time, I wouldn’t.
“Tine” I said. “Give me your company, and I’ll help.”
Ithan froze, stunned by my ruthlessness.
You weren’t like this before. Why are you doing this to me? I’ve already admitted my mistake. Can’t you forgive me?”
“I pranjise I’ll change. I’ll cut all ties with Sophie.”
Love a Hollow Promise

I laughed coldly, meeting his eyes.
“Why? Because I don’t take hack what’s already been used. Once it’s dirty, I don’t want it.”
Ethan’s face turned ghostly pale, and for the first time, he was truly at a loss for words.
