Chapter 5
I stayed alone in the office, took a deep breath, and decided to go check on Anna Green’s work, to see if there were any problems.
I cracked the door open and heard Daniel Brown’s voice–he hadn’t left yet.
“I have my share of the blame. I told her about our past relationship.”
“I knew she was targeting me. These revisions are just meant to torture me,” Anna Green cried out, “Everyone else has left, but I’m the only one left behind. Isn’t that targeting me?”
“Alright, alright, don’t cry, Anna. I’ll talk to her later,” Daniel Brown comforted Anna Green softly, while I stood frozen, struck by lightning
Daniel Brown is someone who o respects boundaries, but he liked to add the word “our” before my name, and I always liked that habit of his. It reminded me that Daniel Brown and I have a home together.
But now, he was applying that
hat same habit to Anna Green.
Anna Green, with a hint of anger, said, “She even secretly asked about my family situation. Don’t think I don’t know.”
Then I heard Daniel Brown’s reply.
“She’s a little like her mom–she has a lot of suspicion.”
The suffocating feeling of betrayal and frustration hit me all at once, stabbing at my heart.
