I took a deep breath anal pretendeil nothing had happened as I returned to the dinner table.

ip didn’t need to be discussed in front of a crowd. This was an issue between Daniel and me, and I didn’t want it to become fodder for gossip.
“Ms. White, can you drink?” Anna Green walked over with a wine glass, “Thank you for giving me the job. I’ll work hard.”
I can drink, but I’ve been feeling unwell lately. I was about to use tea as a substitute when Daniel Brown spoke up.
“She can drink, but you, you used to be three drinks down with just une glass. Don’t drink too much.”

Daniel Brown was stunned, and his smile appeared a bit forced.
I could feel the curious, mocking glances from around the room, and my back stiffened.
I smiled and reached for a cup of tea from between them, taking a small sip. “Really? I’ve been feeling unwell lately, so I’ll have to trouble Anna to help me out and block the alcohol”
Daniel Brown snapped back to reality and immediately lowered his head to look at me
“How are you feeling? Do you need to see a doctor?”
I looked at his face, his concern genuine, not pretending.
“It’s just that my stomach’s been a little off lately.”
I’m not sure if it’s because of the recent work pressure, but I’ve been unable to eat much.
Anna Green gasped, and the glass shattered on the floor.
“Are you hurt?” Daniel Brown asked urgently, his body instinctively moving closer to Anna Green.
His worry seemed genuine, not pretending.
