Chapter 7
I don’t know when I fell asleep, but a burst of noise gradually woke me up. We had arrived,
Lopened my phone, and my mom’s video call came through: “Summer, Macon is here to pick you up.”
“Come home together, I’ve made a table full of your favorite dishes.”
1 blushed, embarrasseil “Mom thick so fast? –
Thadn’t even gotten myself ready to meet him. Can’t have a couple of days to prepare?
a played innocent. “What? Didn’t you say you really wanted to see him? I made a smart decision”.
“Corse home quickly, we all miss you so much.”
Mom hung up, and ma flash, she sent que a string of phone numbers.
I felt strangely nervous. My hand trembled as the phone rang–it was Maronicalling
I picked up the call, and his warm, clear voice came through: “Summer, have you landed?”
I stayed silent. Maren couldn’t possibly not know that I couldn’t speak, could he?
He seemed a little nervous too: “1–I’m sorry.”
He ended the call and quickly switched to a video call. I answered.
He looked just like the neighbor boy I knew when we were kids, a few years older than me, with baby fat on his face, his features still delicate.
Now, though, he had gained a more mature air, his nose sharp and his brow deep. The baby fat was gone, revealing a strong jawline.
There was a hint of a blush on his earlobes, which made him seem a little gender.
He spoke, “It’s been so long. I hope you still find me presentable.”
His joke eased my nerves, and I smiled at the camera,
He continued, “I’ve learned all the sign language, so you don’t have to worry.”
I nodded and gestured: I’ll come find you
He nodded back, “Okay, I wait here for you.”
When I finally found him, before I could even say anything, a group of girls suddenly ran up from all directions: Princess, you’re finally back
“Why did you get so thin? Are you not eating enough? Someone pinched my cheek
Someone hugged me and inhaled deeply: “It’s so good, you’re still using the shower gel I recommended to you all those years ago!”
Someone else ran their fingers through my hair: “Looks like the climate in Newford is pretty dry! We need to schedule a full body spa for you!”
They were some of the good friends I’d made hark in school.
Emily had always disliked me having other friends, saying
ing to me: “You already have me as a good friend! You can’t have any other friends.”
Even though I always thought of her first and considered her my most important friend, she was still number one in my heart.
The pilers knew how much I valued her and treated her warmly.
But she was never happy and would often throw a tantrum at them.
So, I gradually drifted away from them, and eventually lost contact.

They sounded
I felt my eyes prick with tears, inexplicably healed.
“Let’s go, let’s go! I’ve booked the presidential suite, and tonight we won’t stop partying!” They dragged
Macon was stunned. Where did all these girls come from?
He called out anxiously. “Wait a minute
We all turned at once to look at him, startled.
He came ove
and pulled me out of the crowd: “Let’s go another time. Your mom is still waiting at home.”
Hoged to get you bome safely.
The three gals looked at me with a mix of reluctance and hamot, a
1 gestured: Fil contact you when I’m done.
They looked at each other, whispering: “Is she serious?”
Finally, they reluctantly agreed: “You have to contact us though!”
I went over and hugged each one of them: “I will, I promise.”
and I couldn’t help but laugh.
in the middle and started walking out
Only then did they leave, reluctantly, their voices still ringing in my ears: “Tunderstand her sign language! It’s not in vain that I learned in
I was oddly touched. Sometimes, Isaac Carter and Emily Taylor would impatiently say, “Don’t you understand? Just type it out.”
I turned to look at Macon, raised my hand, and signed: I have something to say to you.
He looked at me, a bit uncertain. We walked into a nearby cafe near the airport and went upstairs.
He told the waiter, “I’ve reserved the second floor, don’t let anyone come up.”
We sat by the window, where we could see the planes taking off outside.
I fold him everything about my life in Newford, not daring to look up at him
Macon was the heir to the Smith family, and unlike me, he was healthy.
Over the years, Mom had shared a lot of news about him, and I knew he was incredibly accomplished.
He wanted to get married, and there were plenty of outstanding young women from prestigious families vying for him.
At the end, I gestured: The wedding is still a while away. You can still back out now
Maron was silent, which was the expected response.
If this news were to spread, he might even be scored as a “cuckoldl.”
But when I raised my head, I saw Macon Jowering his gaze, struggling to hold back the pain. Big tears dropped onto his watch
He awkwardly wiped away his tears, and that made me cry too,
He quickly stood up, came over to my side, and apologized: “Sorry, I lost control.”
He gently wiped away my tears, his cool fingers moving frantically around my eyes.
I reached out and wiped away the tears at the corner of his eyes. His ears turned red, embarrassed.
“Summer, thank you for choosing me in the end.”

“I will cherish you, I promise,”
Maron and returned home, and from the way he interacted with my family, it was clear that he had visited our house many times.
On the other hand, I, who hadn’t her
some for years, felt somewhat stiff.
Dad’s attitude was stiff. “You still know how to come back? You just want to make me angry!
Mom told Bail to shut up “Don’t speak to our daughter like that. It’s normal for kids to go through some rough patches”
“Don’t blame her anymore.
Dad sported but, when it came time to eat, he honestly served me some food: “Tat more.”
Lin giving it to you, you better finish it.”
No matter how old we get, in our parents‘ eyes, we are still their little children
Mom, fearing I might leave again like I did years ago, took my phone and gave me a new one.
1 held onto Macon, who was about to leave, and saved his number.
He said to me, “I’ll pick you up tomorrow. I want you to personally choose the wedding dress and the items for the wedding.”
I agreed.
