I scoffed, deciding it wasn’t worth arguing with them any longer. Turning away, I left without another word. If they were going to be this heartless, why should I lower myself any further?
Approaching production period, the strain and stress wore on me, causing my weight to rise too quickly.
But Leo had no time for me; every day, he was either too busy or wrapped up in passionate moments with Melody at the office.
Back home, I handed Leo my prenatal report, explaining my condition and how both the baby and I needed more attention. He barely glanced at the report before tossing it onto the
table with indifference.
For a brief second, something like pain flickered in Leo’s eyes. “I’m sorry, Laura, but Melody has been having constant headaches lately. She needs me. You’re old enough to take care of yourself, aren’t you?”
My face paled, “Have we reached this point yet?”
I had tried to accept his indifference, but hearing those words broke something deep inside
- me.
Just then, Melody appeared, slipping out of our bedroom in a skimpy nightdress. She purred like a kitten, saying shyly, “Laura, don’t worry, I just helped Leo with his work too late last night, so I took a rest in his room.”
I couldn’t say a word.
Then she whined to Leo about wanting dessert. Without a second thought, he went straight into the kitchen to make her a treat.
Melody shot me a smug look as she strolled over, placing her hand on my stomach with a slight, deliberate press.
“What do you think you’re doing?” I snapped, brushing her hand away.

Melody pouted with feigned innocence. “I’m just worried about you, going through so much with the pregnancy. Maybe I should have Leo make a dessert for you too.”
I gave her a cool smile. “No need. Pigs‘ food is meant for pigs, so enjoy it yourself.”
I grabbed my bag and turned to leave, but Melody, fuming, yanked my arm so hard that I lost my balance and fell, crying out in pain. Leo, still in the kitchen, called out with annoyance, asking what had happened. Melody immediately put on a hurt expression.
“Oh, nothing! I just tripped over Laura by accident; it’s fine.” Leo’s voice turned sharp as he snapped, “Laura, you stupid woman, can’t you be more careful?”
I lay on the floor, clutching my belly, groaning softly.
Leo finished making Melody’s dessert and, after exchanging a long, intimate kiss with her, finally left. He hadn’t even noticed me lying behind the sofa, hidden from his view.
As I listened to their whispered breaths and soft moans, a wave of nausea rolled over me.
I was in so much pain that I couldn’t make any sound and could only stare at the ceiling
helplessly.
Once he was gone, Melody’s mask dropped, revealing her true self.

Her gaze fixed sharply on my stomach, her lips curling into a malicious smile. A chill ran down my spine. I wrapped my arms around my belly protectively. “What are you planning?”
She acted like the mistress of our mansion and called in a few guards. Her frosty order reverberated in the surroundings as she commanded authoritatively, freezing me to the
spot.
“Just get rid of this baby. And do it right!”
