Chapter 35
The police finally arrived.
Henry got rid of the entanglement, glanced at Leo who was lying on the ground, and did not come forward to help. Instead, he came straight over to untie the rope for me.
“Are you hurt, Laura? Did they injure you?”
Henry’s voice came into my ears as if through a layer of fog, because I couldn’t hear it clearly at all.
But the scene of Leo and Henry fighting off the goons, searching for fire extinguishers in the building, and then putting away the fire played like a film before my eyes. My brain
refused to work properly as it was stuck on a point,
“How the hell did Leo reach here?”
The emergency device had a few numbers stored in it; I added my security staff’s numbers besides my brother’s. Then how did I become so stupid and add Leo’s number to it?
Like, what was I even thinking?
It wasn’t that he would care whether I was alive or not, calling him for help was bound to
end up in no good. Then my old fantasies about him made me solve the mystery eventually, where I was used to imagining that one day, Leo would change his ways and care for me.
Is that the way it is? But not for me, but for Laura Becker.
“Jesus, you are hurt. You need immediate medical attention.”
The bleeding wound on my hand was the result of my protective shield from a blow, the sight of blood worried him.
After the police took the kidnapper away, Leo lay on the ground by himself.
He seemed to look in our direction, but I looked away.
I didn’t breathe a sigh of relief until the ambulance took him away. I can’t tell what I feel

now.
We were taken to the same ward. I was wrapped up like a mummy, and so was Leo. It was a funny scene, two mummies.
“Thank you, enm, how did you… Never mind, thank you anyway.”
Part of me felt that this was retribution for what Leo had done before, but I couldn’t be so cruel. This time he really paid a price for saving me.
But it was the least of my problems, as Leo’s keen gaze was fixed on us. He was observing the interaction between me and my brother. Henry was behaving like a caring partner after seeing me in trouble.
I eyed him to hold his horses and behave normally, arousing Leo’s suspicion would be fatal for my plan. As for the record, he knew that Henry was touchy about his younger sister. Given that Leo had tested me before, our relationship would make it obvious that we had blood ties with each other. It wouldn’t be long until a genius like Leo joined the dots and realized that we were plotting against him.
However, the panic affected Henry’s brain efficiency as well. I shot him a look again, but he didn’t get it. Instead, he asked me foolishly,
“Is your eye twitching, Laura?”
Oh, my gosh!
So embarrassing!
I wanted to facepalm myself, as there was no place to hide my flushed face. Henry’s idiocy left me speechless.
Luckily, the police arrived at the scene, diverting everyone’s attention. They arrested the goons and confiscated the cameras. My belongings were returned to me as well.
Then we were questioned about the incident, and I recorded my statement for abduction, treating my wounds as best as I could. My affectionate brother didn’t stop for a second, making sure that all the paperwork was taken care of. I could understand his feelings for me, but Leo’s gaze was shifting between the two of us, as if trying to reveal the truth.

Blimey!
Henry insisted on changing the bandages for me himself.
“The wound must not get wet. How about I hire a nanny to come to your house and take care of you?”
I choked for a moment. “Thanks for your kindness… I didn’t know you had also developed a housekeeping business.hah”
This development was the last nail in the coffin, running me out of patience!
I called my assistant Echo in, holding her head and groaning, suggesting that she push me to the doctor’s office as soon as possible.
Echo quickly understood my intention and led me out, with Henry following closely behind.
I sighed in relief and yanked my hand away halfway through the bandage, gritting my
teeth.
“Why are you trying to broadcast to the world that we are a couple, Henry?”
Rolling my eyes, I shook my head as it finally dawned at Henry,
“Oh, I see.
No wonder you were ignoring me earlier.”
I hated to say it, but duh!
What else could be the reason?
Although Henry was a successful businessman, the true heir of the Green family, hist exemplary conduct made me suspect his matchless abilities now. Despite being at sharp–minded person, he took so long to catch the gist of the problem.
He grabbed my hand to bandage it and chuckled,
“And I thought that the kidnappers hit your head so hard that your eye started twitching. I got scared!”

“That’s enough! Stop being stupid. Please be careful with your disguise when you go in.”
I acted like a spoiled child and lost my temper with my brother for the first time in a long time. Henry agreed, lifting the corners of his lips.
