Chapter 30
Friday night came, and I dressed up to the nines, choosing a special dress for this dinner. One eventful day, I wore this same dress to visit the doctor for my check–up and found out that I was pregnant with Leo’s child.
Old Laura Green hoped that her husband would be overjoyed to hear this news. But it turned out to be her wishful thinking.
Leo never showed much enthusiasm; he simply did his best to fulfill the role of a responsible father while I was pregnant. But deep down, I suspect he grew tired of it long
ago.
So, to honor that memory, I selected a small size version of that dress, trying to remind Leo of that heartrending incident. The dress was creamy white like the shining stars in the sky. Simple, yet extravagant. Beautiful in the sense that it was partially exposed on the chest, as it had two intersecting sheer straps that came from the bodice breasts. They were wrapped around my neck, securing the dress.
The long gown was form–fitting, it outlined my hourglass figure perfectly. I was sausfied by my appearance. Though the memories related to this dress skinned me alive, I was hopeful that it would provoke Leo into revealing something.
With my hopes soaring high in the sky, I went to a restaurant to meet my trash husband. It was great that he picked a secure place for dinner. Due to our business dealings, it would be impossible to have an official dinner at a public place. Lakon city’s media was renowned for spreading rumors about the celebrities and business community.
It would be hell to deal with another headache!
Leo’s cautiousness kept my identity a secret, the dim lights and invites were used to ensure the restaurant’s members‘ only policy.
As I walked in, my dress caught on the door, I tried to free it immediately. However, a cold whisper scoffed beside my ears,
“So, clumsy!”

A tingling sensation shot up my spine as I raised my head and saw exquisitely dressed Leo, he taunted me icily. Ignoring his snarky remark, I looked around as a waiter rushed to
assist me,
“Good evening, ma’am. Let me …”
Leo didn’t let him complete his sentence and shooed him away,
“Thanks!”
After scaring the waiter with his bossy tone, he knelt down himself to free my dress, prickling goosebumps over my skin. I was frozen to my spot for a moment.
Was he really the same Leo I married?
Looking at that courteous man, I refused to believe my eyes. He couldn’t be the same man who didn’t take pity on me when I grabbed his feet.
“Miss Becker, this way!” My trance was broken by Leo’s voice as he guided me to the corner table reserved for us. I sighed while following his lead. The waiters made sure to turn on the full lights after we were seated.
Grinning inwardly, I glanced at Leo, thrilled by upcoming shock. I keenly observed his face for any reaction.
As the lights were fully lit, Leo finally got a clear look at my dress, his face losing its color for a brief period, swayed my heart. I could see his breath catch for a moment; his startled expression was the proof of my success.
Seizing this opportunity, I bit my lower lip and slowly leaned in, smiling flirtatiously. I tugged his tie, as if fixing it and asked in a mysterious tone,
“Is there something wrong, Mr. Leo?”
Leo’s eyes locked to mine, staring deep into my soul. I was taken aback by the intense stare. His gaze traveled from my hands to his tie as he swiftly composed himself like a master, and grabbed my hand,
“What are you up to, Miss Becker?”

His charming smile in response flipped my insides, making me shudder uncontrollably as
he said,
“Or should I call you Laura? After all, we are friends now.”
Friends?
My foot!
I freed my hand from his iron hold and sat back, replying to him with a small smile.
“I’ll prefer Miss Becker, Mr. Leo. We are business partners. So, let’s keep it professional.”
After this initial failure, I was alerted and paused my plan for some time. I would have more chances during the meal.
We ordered and had dinner in a pleasant atmosphere, where Leo played the part of a perfect gentleman. He asked me about my meal, talking about chef’s special, as I was new to this city. His hospitality left me wondering.
Was he really a good host or was this just a method to flirt with beautiful girls? Who knew how many times he had used this trick on women?
When the waiter came for our drink’s order, I ordered Martinis for us, trusting its strong alcohol content to shatter Leo’s genuine facade. As for the reference, Leo had low alcohol tolerance, it would be easy to interrogate him after this.
As expected, he seemed relaxed after a few sips, I could see the magical effects of Martini on him. Taking it as a good start, I casually brought up Zoe’s topic,
“Your son also plays ice hockey, Mr. Leo. What are your plans for his future?
My company would love to sign/him for a kid’s program.”
Leo was excited to hear about opportunities for his son, he joked lightheartedly,
“I think Zoe is lucky to leave a great impression on you, Miss Becker. Otherwise, your company standards require professional players to perform well in recent games.”
His concealed complaint made me chuckle, I responded to him,

“The competition is tough among professional players. But it’s difficult to find gifted kids for ice hockey. Zoe has inherited your talent; he will be a great player in the future.”
Zoe’s mention was a way to ease into the real conversation, as Leo didn’t suspect me when I asked him casually,
“Did you know I was hurt back then? Why didn’t you come to save me??”
Leo’s eyes reddened as his face took a haunted look. He took a few deep breaths, then said,

“I was sorry back then, but I truly didn’t know what had happened. I thought you hated me and left without saying a word.”
