Dinner on Friday?
I had successfully dodged the bullet every time; however, I couldn’t stay in a passive position forever. He was the one who hurt me, so why should I live in doubt and fear? It
should be him.
After a small pause, I agreed with him with a professional smile.
“Why not, Mr. Leo? See you on Friday night.”
As soon as Leo left, I checked the documents of his records, where it was mentioned that he
was married once and now single. But using his esources, he was able to conceal his spouse’s name. As expected, there are probably only a few people who know that we were
married.
Staring at the documents blankly, I was overwhelmed by the memories of the past as once, seeing my name with Leo was the biggest joy of my life. Our marriage certificate was my precious possession, proof of our sacred union.
But what did he do?
He broke the heart of the girl who loved him wholeheartedly, punishing her for a shallow
reason. The death of my baby had left deep lacerations on my heart, and there was only one method to ease my suffering: Leo’s confession!
I needed him to admit everything he had done out loud. Exposing his true face before the
public was my plan. His blind fans must see what kind of evil person he was!
The thought of his ruined career and public lash out kept me relaxed throughout the week.
At this time, Echo reported to me the latest progress in finding the doctor. The village doctor, Doctor Max, who saved my life, was my ultimate destination. A witness who could
testify to my agony.
Several doctors had no idea who I was, but I remembered that face clearly. Yet, he wasn’t among the doctors short–listed by Echo. As I read the doctors‘ file, my heart sank,

enveloping my trembling existence with panic.
This doctor was supposed to be my prime witness, proving my innocence with evidence of
the inhumane abuse I was subjected to. However, it appeared that he vanished in thin air.
So, as a last resort, I decided to meet the doctors related to that village.
A group of five doctors came to visit me for an official meeting, I called them using an
excuse of consultation. Without beating around the bush, I asked them.
“Thank you so much for coming. Please tell me about the current address of Doctor Max, who worked in the village infirmary five years ago.”
My query was followed by a pin drop silence as they all remained silent, as if I had asked a
question about the cure for HIV. One of them looked at others and spoke quickly,
“Sorry, ma’am. We don’t know any doctor named Max. We all started our practice five years
ago and…”
Liar!

It wasn’t difficult to catch their lies, as I had records of their medical practice, which clearly
stated that they were in this profession for a decade. Hearing their automated lies, I kee
observed the body language of the doctors, a method to identify a person with
consciousness among them. There was always a weakling in the group, scared of being caught. I just needed to use his fear against him for truth.
As if God were on my side, my eyes caught the sight of a doctor wiping the sweat from his
forehead, I smirked inwardly.
“Sweaty in an air–conditioned room? Gotcha!”
His terrified look spoke more than his words, suggesting that he wanted to speak but couldn’t. So, I walked towards him and said,
“Doctor Max is my close relative’s physician. Before going abroad, her complicated sickness
was cured by him.
Now, that sickness has flared again, and doctors are unable to treat her. So, I am giving you one more chance. Please think again and reply to my query.

Do you have any contact information for Doctor Max?”
I walked past that doctor and returned briefly, warning him in a grave tone.
“If anything happens to my relative, all of your certificates will be canceled for deceit. And trust me, I’ll make sure to send you all to the prison for…”

“I know about Doctor Max!”
That horrified doctor’s shaky voice brought a smile to my face. He couldn’t stay silent under pressure and told me, “He was a doctor at our village infirmary, but one day, he came to the office in a hurry. I tried to discuss a case with him, but he handed me his resignation, saying that he was going abroad.
From that day, he never returned and changed his number as well. No one have any information about his current location.”
His statement trembled my heart in my chest, I was unable to wrap my head around the reality that what could be the reason for Doctor Max’s sudden disappearance? If he got a job offer out of the country, then why did he leave in hurry and cut off his contact with the
past?
As I contemplated it, it crossed my mind that the situation wasn’t that simple in the past. The doctor had to flee the country, as if he was a criminal, although he was just a simple doctor at the village infirmary. Then the unknown reason for him going abroad didn’t make any sense, I was definitely missing a piece of this jigsaw puzzle.
This confession left me with no choice, so I let everyone leave and asked Echo.
“According to his colleagues, Doctor Max left the country five years ago. Please expand the area of search and keep looking. We will find him for sure.”
Echo noted the points of Doctor Max’s disappearance and assured me about the good results soon. However, my mind was stuck at the scene of my suffering in the forest. In that rainstorm, Doctor Max appeared as an angel and saved my life. But now, this coincidence felt more fishy.
I thought to myself, “I will revisit the forest to investigate when the time is right. Perhaps, I will be able to find a clue.”
