Echo was amazed by my sudden change of decision, as only I was against signing a contract
with this renowned hockey star. She chuckled,
“It must be the magic of Leo’s flawless performance today. His skills are matchless, ma’am.”
She was going on and on about her favorite star’s talent, I thought bitterly.
“Don’t be silly, Echo. It’s just a trap for your star. The higher you climb, the harder you fall!”
My legal staff worked at lightning speed and drafted a contract. It was easy to negotiate with Leo, as he was desperate to collaborate with my company.
We were responsible for Leo’s image packaging and the promotion of his products, and receive 25% of his profits. The contract also stated that if losses occur due to his personal reasons, he would pay a huge penalty.
Within two days, we met to sign the contract. The press conference at this event was of vital importance today.
The conference hall was full of curious reporters as I walked through the doors, wearing a confident smile to show. This presser was my first–ever official public appearance, so my team had prepared well for this event. I was determined to face the media, raring to go.
Leo stood by my side, flashing a generous smile, he was on cloud nine to gaining the attention that he always wanted to promote his business besides his hockey career.
My assistant Brandon, he was my media coordinator as well, was managing the press today. He eyed the first reporter from a notable sports magazine to start the
conference.

A girl in early twenties got up and asked politely,
“FB Cooperation is new in Lakon city. So, what are your plans for its developments?”
I responded to her professionally.
“My company strives for excellence in every field. I am well aware of the competition and

challenges, but like my other branches, Lakon city branch will be one of the leading companies soon.
All the players are more than welcome to join us for better opportunities.”
The following questions were solely based on my goals and curiosity of my rivals for competition, but those tricky queries were manageable. I invited everyone to discuss the business and create a healthy atmosphere for young players so that they could learn and grow under their senior’s guidance.
All the reporters were from reputable firms and their questions were pre–approved. So, everything went smoothly until a sharp voice questioned me out of the blue.
“I heard that you already have a daughter, Miss Becker. So, can you tell us something about your husband?”
My heart sank as all the eyes turned towards a black sheep among the crowd. A young, ambitious man had dared to ask me such a personal question, making everyone stunned.
Glaring at him silently, I tried to shut his nonsense with my deadly stare. But he didn’t give a damn about my warning and continued with his previous statement.
“Or is your husband, the well–known entrepreneur, Henry Green?
He is a successful businessman of Lakon city. Is that why you are optimistic about your
success?”
He crossed all the limits of invading my privacy and flashed my photos separately with Jane and Henry, causing a stir among the entire audience.
I was aghast to see the pictures of my recent meeting with Henry at the hotel. It meant that he was stalking me! The mere thought of having a spy on my tail welled up a wave of acid from the bottom of my stomach, twisting a blunt knife in my gut.
I had just entered the business pool of Lakon city, and my enemies were adamant about tarnishing my name using my private life. It was really a disgusting move! When someone can’t beat you at the battleground, they tend to use these types of dirty tricks, showing their low status with their narrow–minded approach.
As I was silent in response, Leo turned to look at me, his complex expressions were

unreadable at that moment. But his indifferent face reminded me that I was at the press conference, where the reporters were waiting for my response.
Quickly gathering my thoughts, I composed myself and spoke.
“I am sorry. Can you please explain how your question is relevant to today’s topic?
We are here to discuss Mr. Leo’s collaboration with my company, not my personal life.”
My indirect warning should have been enough to shut him, but he didn’t lose hope and tried his luck again.
“The rumors of your marriage have created a buzz in the business circle. So, it’s an important topic, Miss. or Mrs. Becker?”
His audacity to attack me directly set me on fire, it was so hard for me to put a formal façade for the sake of my company. The pin–drop silence amidst continuous flashes of
camera helped me to reign in my emotions, I joked lightheartedly.
“What about leaving these questions as a breach of my privacy and answering some official
queries? I bet this information will be beneficial for your business newspaper. Or am I
missing something?”
I noticed the name of his company from his ID card and spoke casually.
“Please correct me if I am wrong, but I didn’t know that The Daily News has started
publishing a gossip magazine as well.
I would like to request your editor to arrange an interview. It will be fun to talk about these
rumors there.
Next question please!”
Swiftly redirecting the conversation back to work, I didn’t give that nosy reporter a chance
to speak further. Other media/persons bombarded me with questions related to the next sports season, lightening the/atmosphere.
I got a moment for myself/when Echo announced the list of the players signing with our company. Staring at the audience intently, I scanned the workers of my office, a question. was drilling a hole in my head.

“Who could have arranged this disturbance in the presser?”
As the culprit could still be here, I checked every person’s identity. And call it a coincidence, my sharp gaze fell at Leo, who was looking at me with a faint smile.
His smile deepened as he reacted to my attention and leaned in to whisper.
“The cameras are rolling, Miss Becker. So, as partners, it might be good to act more
intimate.”
The nerve of that hockey lecher!
