Chapter 21
Chapter 21
It was certainly a narrow escape, my open–book face had almost revealed my panic, as if he caught me red handed.
Deep in my thoughts, I experienced a massive jump scare as my cell phone rang, giving me
a minor heart attack. I took a deep breath and received my security staff’s call.
“Please come quickly, Miss Becker. Jane is hurt!”
Christ on a bike, what the hell was happening in my life?
Almost immediately, I felt that this was more than an accident. And it had to be someone’s
conspiracy. The fact that I had a child was not known to the public, so it could only be the
people around me.
During our short stay in Lakon city, Jane disappeared twice and today, she got hurt. What
was wrong?
These back–to–back incidents took a toll on my mental health, destroying my inner peace. I left all the work behind and rushed towards her pre–school with my staff. Jane must be training at their hockey rink this time.
And my little girl must be scared without me!
With my heart drumming in my ears, I reached pre–school, my hastened steps took me to the infirmary in no time.
As I entered through the door, my gaze fell on my sick daughter, lying on the bed.
“Jane!”
An involuntary gasp escaped from my mouth as Iran towards the bed. The bandage around her arm crushed my heart. She was looking so pale!
The lady doctor noticed my arrival and informed me. “It’s good that you came here, ma’am.

I have bandaged her wound…”
Ignoring her obvious report, I clutched my little girl to my chest and asked her.
“Jane passed out due to shock and fatigue. She will be up after sleeping for some hours naturally. There’s nothing to be worried about, ma’am.”
Zoe was standing near Jane’s bed; a mix of concern and malice was etched on his face as he comforted me.
“Jane will be fine soon.”
I carefully put Jane to bed and tucked her in, my wounded heart was looking for the culprit of this daring: My security staff!
As a leading business lady, my family was at security risk, hiring private security guards was essential for us. I signed contracts with security agencies for protection. But still, my daughter was hurt. Then what was the use of hiring good–for–nothing idiots?
Raging in anger, I walked out of the room and glared at the security guard allotted to Jane’s duty.
“How did my daughter get hurt? Where were you?”
“This is the second time that you failed to fulfill your duty. You are fired!” I shouted to the bodyguard.
At that very moment, Leo emerged from the locker room, having just changed out of his hockey gear. Seeing him at school set me on fire.
What the hell was he doing here?
Unable to suppress my fury, I stalked towards him dangerously as he greeted me.
“Hello, Miss Becker!”
I shouted at him in response, shoving him hard. Hatred flashed in my eyes as I instinctively blamed Leo as the culprit./

“Why are you always around whenever something happens to my Jane?”
Seeing my daughter’s vulnerable state, I lost my mind, the extent of helplessness cutting through every cell of my body. It killed me to imagine how much my Jane had suffered due to the wound. How scared she was while going through this painful moment alone?
Unfazed by my misery, Leo looked frustrated, my forceful push only caused him to lose his footing for a moment. He swiftly regained his composure and stepped forward.
“Jane wanted to play hockey with me, so I went to change. How could this happen in such a
short time?”
No matter what he said, I didn’t feel at ease, breaking those hands that had injured my Jane was the only thing on my mind.
Thankfully, Zoe interjected in our conversation, his childish tone sounded cold as he
informed me.
“It was Melody. She was looking for daddy. When Jane tried to tell her that daddy was in the changing room, she pushed her. That’s how Jane tripped and accidentally hit a skate blade.”
