Chapter 16
Chapter 16
Losing my little girl twice in less than twenty–four hours snatched my ability to think
straight.
“Jane and Zoe were sitting with you. Then how come they went missing?
Where were you?”
I knew that Jane wasn’t his responsibility, but at least he could keep an eye on his son during my ten–minute bathroom break.
My Jane would have stayed in her seat, playing with Zoe. I was about to lose my temper when Leo explained the entire situation.
“As it’s ice hockey season, I am getting frequent calls from the sponsors and companies.
I went to attend an important phone call, and the kids unexpectedly disappeared during this short break.”
Shit! Shit! Shit!
Firstly, we searched the classrooms, playgrounds, hall, and trail rooms, I even checked the bathrooms to see if my Jane was going to use it.
The school staff also assisted in this search operation, and we turned the school upside. down in no time, but it was in vain. There wasn’t even a single hint of their presence there.
My heart raced like a galloping horse in my chest, making it hard to breathe as the worst–case scenarios revolved in my head to scare me. This failure left me with only one way possible, so I took out my cell phone and called Echo.
“File a police complaint, Echo, Jane is missing!”
Hearing about police involvement, the school’s principal tried to talk me out of it.
“Please try to understand my position, ma’am. We will find Jane soon. But if a word goes out, my institution’s reputation will be tarnished. Please cooperate with us!”

However, Leo backed me, he spoke icily.
“I am also filing a complaint, ma’am! It’s the height of unprofessional behavior. If you can’t take care of two kids, then how will you run a pre–school? Your security system isn’t up to the mark as you promised in the parents–teacher meeting.”
The police officer registered our complaints and assured us to look for our kids as swiftly as possible.
My legs seemed to lose all their bones as they had refused to bear my weight anymore. I leaned against a wall, blinking my eyes rapidly. The fear of losing my little girl burned my eyes with tears.
Her cute smile, innocent face, sparkling eyes, everything about her haunted me, filling my heart with dreads of never seeing her again.
I was on the verge of crying profusely in public when Leo patted my shoulder.
“Please sit down. Jane will be fine!”
Clenching my teeth, I cursed him up to my heart’s extent while watching him busy on his
phone.
I was sure nothing good would happen if I run into him. Or was this all his conspiracy?
My cursing session could be longer, but it was cut short by my secretary’s call from the office. I had to receive the call.
“Please come to the office for a meeting, ma’am. It’s urgent!”
I hardly suppressed the urge to scream that nothing was more important than my daughter in this world, and asked Brandon coldly.
“Why? What’s the urgent
Matter?”
Brandon’s next statement reminded me of an important meeting that I had postponed in the morning. He mentioned the current situation in the company.
“We have signed fewer hockey stars this season, ma’am.
Chapter 16
Sponsors aren’t interested in our team, only some of them have responded to our offer. This matter needs your immediate attention.”
Really?
I couldn’t believe my rotten luck betraying me like that. I was equally suffering in both my personal and professional life. This was too much for my bombastic entry in Lakon city.
Controlling my wayward emotions, I focused on my work and instructed him.
“Ask Mr. Johnson to contact sponsors for a meeting. I will talk to them in person.”
I had to swallow my sadness because it was my responsibility as a CEO.
Brandon silently noted all the details, and then suggested a solution which I was avoiding like a plaque.
“What if we consider signing Leo, the brightest star of ice hockey, for this season? He will bring his sponsors with him.”
Brandon’s proposal was practical to create some buzz, beneficial for my company. But I wasn’t going to compromise my revenge at any cost, as the only blow to that hockey star’s ego was like the first rain after ten years of drought for my vengeful spirit.
Talking to Brandon, I glanced at Leo, who happened to be looking at me as well. The straight rejection that was about to escape from my lips turned into. “Let me discuss it whe I get back!”
As there wasn’t any use in staying there, I requested the school authorities to keep me updated about the latest developments. And then I turned to Leo and asked him.
“Your son is with Jane. If you find any clues about himplease reach out to me.
This is my card. It has all my contact information.”
Luckily, Leo didn’t say anything and gave me his card too. After dealing with the security staff and police, I walked out of the school’s building, preparing myself for another battle. However, there was only one thing on my mind.
“Please be safe, Jane. Mommy will find you soon.”
