Chapter 144
My hand froze in mid–air.
Martins looked surprised at me and said, “Ms. Lopez, are you looking for Mr. Strakovski?”
I put my hand down somewhat uncomfortably and nodded, “Yes, I’m coming to get some information from Mr. Strakovski.”
Martins nodded and left the office.
I entered the office, but Lukas didn’t even raise his head and continued to look at the documents.
Seeing Lukas treating me as if I were invisible, I subconsciously thought of what had happened last night.
I self–deprecatingly tugged at my lips, realizing that I had been overestimating my importance.
Naively, I thought that after spending so much time together, there would be some sort of emotional connection between us.
However, in the end, in Lukas’s eyes, I was nothing more than someone he helped casually when he was in a good mood, and I had taken that too seriously.
Since Lukas remained silent, I took the initiative and spoke calmly, “Mr. Strakovski, I came to get the relevant information for the Menkerios Heart of the Sea Jewelry Competition.”
Lukas remained composed on the surface but felt chaotic inside.
He looked at me and didn’t respond to my words. Instead, he said, “Congratulations on winning the Champion at the Morning Light Jewelry Competition.”
My expression remained neutral, “Thank you, but the credit mainly goes to you, Mr. Strakovski.” I said.
Our conversation was polite and official, but extremely awkward.
Lukas felt helpless because he knew that even if he apologized now, I might not listen.
After all, he had already said hurtful words last night.
A tinge of helplessness flashed in his eyes as he handed over the documents beside him, “These are the relevant information for the competition in Mediopolis. I’ve already had Martins print it out. Take a look, there’s still half a month left, so practice and prepare
well.”
I nodded politely but distantly, “I will.”
Taking the documents, I turned to leave.
Lukas stood up from his office chair, “Skylar.”
I turned around, looking at him with a cold expression, “Is there anything else you want to say, Mr. Strakovski?”
Lukas cleared his throat and said, “For the Menkerios Heart of the Sea Jewelry Competition, do you want me or Cole to go with you? I’m more familiar with the situation there, but Cole…”
Mid this in an attempt to give us a chance to reconcile.

However, before Lukas could finish his sentence, I interrupted him without restraint, influenced by the words from last night, “Mr. Strakovski, I won’t trouble you anymore. Director Hopkins already said he will accompany me.”
Lukas didn’t expect that one day he would be eager to help but be refused.
But ultimately, it was the hurtful words that he threw at me from last night that caused me to act so distantly toward him.
Though his face looked unpleasant, he still said in a deep voice, “Skylar, I drank too much alcohol yesterday. I’m sorry.”
My face tensed, “Mr. Strakovski, there’s no need to apologize. Our true thoughts come out of the surface when we get drunk, and I understand your feelings. So don’t worry, Mr. Strakovski, I won’t dare to be so presumptuous in the future.”
After saying that, I turned and left the office, thoughtfully closing the door for Lukas.
Lukas’s face turned ironclad, and a storm was brewing within him.
I was not someone who would wallow in self–pity. Although Lukas’s attitude did hurt me and he already apologized, I won’t ask him for help because after what happened last night, I realized that I was not qualified to ask someone like Lukas Strakovski for help.
I knew I had to find my own way to deal with things.
During lunchtime, Ava’s usually cold little face showed a rare hint of frustration. She said, “I realized that even after coming to Strakovski Jewelry, I still can’t meet Cole. Every time I go to the design department, he’s always in his office. Tell me, Skylar, should I come to interview for the assistant position in the jewelry design department?”
I was already racking her brain for solutions as Ava spoke.“Ah?”
I suddenly looked up and said involuntarily, pulling me out of her train of thought.
Ava immediately noticed something was off with her best friend. “What’s wrong with you? You’ve been absent–minded all afternoon.” She asked.
I pursed my lips, about to speak, but Ava interrupted, “Be honest because whenever you have that gloomy expression and purse your lips, it means you’re about to make up a story.”
I knew I was already helpless. I knew Ava understood me too well. Either I wouldn’t say anything, or if I did, Ava would easily see through any lie.
After thinking about it for a moment, I decided to tell her the truth about my mother’s demand to have Bella work in the same company as me, and her blackmailing me with my late father’s letter made just for me.
Ava furrowed her eyebrows, “So, what do you plan to do, then?”
I glanced at her and whispered, “As for Lukas’s side, I know there’s no chance he’ll let Bella into Strakovski Jewelry. However, if this plan fails, my mom will burn the letter my dad left for me. So, I want to steal the letter from her before the deadline she’s set, so she won’t be able to threaten me anymore.”
