Thinking of how Madam Gray had left midway through their conversation, Julia’s heart sank again.
Noticing her pale expression, Franklin asked with concern, “What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
Julia quickly composed herself and forced a smile. “No, I’m fine. Really.”

When they learned that Madam Gray actually liked Maggie–and even approved of her becoming her daughter–in–law–both the Green family and the Brown family found it hard to believe.
“Maggie was married and even has a child. Her background’s pretty ordinary too. Johnny comes from a prominent family and has a successful career. Why would the Gray family ever agree to let them be together? Maybe President

“Exactly,” Sophia quickly chimed in. “Or maybe that slut hid her past? Maybe the Gray family doesn’t even know she was married. That would explain it!”
Julia also couldn’t understand why the Gray family would approve of Johnny marrying Maggie.
Maybe… Maggie really did hide her past and deceived the Gray family.
Originally, Julia thought that if she couldn’t talk Johnny out of the relationship, they could always take it to court.
But if Madam Gray had recorded their conversation from the day before, that lawsuit wouldn’t be feasible anymore.
Still–if Maggie had hidden the fact that she was previously married and already had a child, there might still be a chance to turn things around.
With that thought in mind, Julia immediately sent someone to probe Madam Gray for information.
Thanks to her connection with Franklin, there were plenty of people eager to curry favor with her. Finding someone to dig for intel wasn’t hard at all.

As soon as they got confirmation from Madam Gray, the contact relayed the information to Julia.
“The Gray family actually knows Maggie was married”
That meant they probably also knew who she had married–Tranklin.
Sophia said bitterly. “They know she was married and still approve of them being together? The Gray family must have lost their minds.”
Julia said nothing, her face growing colder.
Isabella’s fencing competition lasted two full days.
That afternoon, while Maggie was reading, she received a call from Isabella.
After a moment of hesitation, she picked up.
Isabella had just finished her match and was calling to share her excitement with Maggie.
She’d been worried Maggie wouldn’t answer, so when she did, Isabella lit up with joy.
“Mom! You’re finally done with work?!”
Maggie: “Mm, what’s up?”
“I finished my fencing competition! I won second place!”
Maggie’s voice was warm and sincere. “That’s amazing, Isabella. Well done.”
Hearing her mother’s praise, Isabella became even more excited.
“I’ve only just started learning, so second place is already really good. But give me a bit more time–I’ll definitely win first place next time!”
Maggie shared in her joy. “Keep it up. Just don’t put too much pressure on yourself.”
“I know, I know,” Isabella replied, then asked expectantly, “Mom, what are you doing right now? Will you be home for dinner tonight?”
Maggie looked down, her voice softening a little. “I still have things to take care of…”
“Oh, okay.”
She had expected that answer. By now, Isabella was used to it. But just hearing her mother’s voice and receiving her praise was already enough to make her happy.

The photos were undeniably good.

“Daddy took all these for me. Mom, do you like them?”
