Chapter 188
“No need.” Maggie immediately declined, saying, “When school finishes, I’ll still be at work. You can stay at your great–grandmother’s house. If you get bored, call your dad and have him take you out to eat.”
“Got it.” Isabella replied obediently.
Maggie added, “I have to go to work now. I’m hanging up.”
“Okay, bye Mom.”
Maggie ended the call.
After having breakfast, she went to the company.
Although she had been busy all day yesterday, she was still very busy when she returned to work today.
However, she left the office earlier than usual in the afternoon and went back to the Miller family’s house to have dinner with the old lady.
When she arrived at the Rong family’s house, she found that the old lady seemed to be in a bad mood.
Maggie noticed that there was no sign of Isabella in the living room. She guessed that Isabella had gone out to eat with Franklin and the others again.
Maggie wasn’t particularly bothered by it, but the old lady did feel that Isabella was indeed quite clingy towards Franklin.
She said earnestly, “Mag, once you finish your current work, you should spend more time with Isabella.
Otherwise…”
Maggie nodded perfunctorily and said, “I know, I will. Let’s eat first.”
The old lady didn’t say anything further.
After dinner, Maggie chatted with the old lady for a while before going upstairs to rest.
Around 9 p.m., when she came downstairs, the security booth outside indicated that there was a visitor.
Maggie glanced and saw that it was Franklin’s car.

Maggie frowned. Before she could react, her phone rang
It was Isabella’s call.
The old lady had not gone to sleep yet, and when she came out of her room and saw what was happening, she realized that Franklin had brought Isabella back.
She quickly told the security to let Franklin’s car in.
Maggie picked up the phone and spoke to Isabella for a moment before hanging up.
A moment later, Franklin’s car arrived at the Miller family’s villa gate.
Isabella happily ran out of the car, “Mom, I’m back!”
Maggie smiled faintly, and the old lady looked very pleased.
The car door was still open, and Franklin was still sitting in the car. He got out, holding Isabella’s forgotten backpack and a cake box, walking toward Maggie and Isabella.
Maggie didn’t say anything.
Isabella suddenly remembered she had forgotten something and cheerfully told Franklin, “Thank you,
Dad.”
“Mm.” Franklin glanced at Maggie and the old lady, greeting the latter, “Old Madam.”
The old lady merely nodded coldly. Maggie had no choice but to take the small cake from Franklin.
Isabella was about to say the cake was delicious, but Maggie interrupted her and said, “Isabella, say goodbye to your dad.”
Isabella didn’t think much and asked, “Dad is leaving?”
Franklin smiled slightly, “Mm.”
Isabella had no choice but to say, “Goodbye, Dad.”
“Goodbye.” Franklin replied, nodded at the old lady, and turned to go back to his car.
Maggie took the small cake and held Isabella’s hand as they went inside, showing no intention of seeing Franklin off.

Franklin’s car quickly drove away.
As soon as Isabella entered, she excitedly said, “Mom, Great–Grandmother, this is a small cake I got for you and Dad. It’s strawberry–flavored, the one you like. Try it, okay?”
Isabella smelled faintly of perfume, probably from Julia.
Maggie placed the small cake aside and said, “Mom just had dinner, so I’m not hungry. Let’s leave it for
now.”
The old lady also nodded in agreement.
Isabella said, “Oh…”
After placing the small cake in the fridge, Isabella went upstairs to take a shower. Just as she finished, her
phone rang.
It was a call from Franklin.
Isabella answered the phone, “Dad?”
Franklin replied, “I just got word that your grandfather will be back tomorrow afternoon. After school tomorrow, I’ll have someone come pick you up to go home for dinner. Let your mom know.”
Franklin’s father, Felix Wilson, worked in the government. His job kept him very busy, and he rarely had time to return home throughout the year. The day Old Lady Wilson fell, Felix rushed back at dawn, only to leave again before sunrise.
Now that Old Lady Wilson was still in the hospital, Felix had taken a couple of days off in advance to come back and spend the New Year with her.
After hearing this, Isabella responded, “Okay, I know.”
As she hung up, she suddenly realized that her father had said “pick you up” and not “pick you all up,” implying that it was just her being picked up, not Maggie.
She turned to Maggie and asked, “Mom, aren’t you coming back with us for dinner?”
In the past, whenever Felix came back, regardless of whether Franklin was there or not, Old Lady Wilson would always invite Maggie and Isabella to the old house for a family reunion.
Since it happened quite often, even though Isabella was still young, she had the impression in her mind that “when Grandpa comes back, we go to the old house for dinner.”

Maggie was about to speak when Franklin quickly interjected, “Your mom has something to do
tomorrow.”
“Okay…” Isabella said. She had put the phone on speaker, so Maggie heard the entire conversation.
Maggie hadn’t known about Felix’s return until now. She and Franklin were already going through the
divorce process.
Given her current situation, there was no longer any need for her to visit the Wilson family or meet Franklin’s relatives.
Evidently, Franklin thought the same way. So, without waiting for her to respond, he had already made up an excuse for her not to return to the Wilson family.
Franklin didn’t say anything further and quickly ended the call.
