Chapter468
Seeing her, Matt was somewhat surprised. “Miss Jones?”
Ashley nodded. “Hello,”
Looking at her, Matt smiled slightly.“Do you work here now?”
Ashley shook her head. “No, my teacher had me come over and help with something.”
Matt paused upon hearing this.
Not everyone was authorized to allow non–staff members access to this base….
Thinking about the close but non–romantic relationship between her and Tim, Matt quickly realized something. “Your teacher, is Mr. Burke
Ashley nodded. “Yes.”
Matt couldn’t believe it. He’d never imagined Ashley was Burke’s student.
This revelation contextualized numerous prior anomalies.
For example, at a banquet, Tim emphasized that Ashley played a significant role in Eternal’s newly developed project; His father David paid much attention to Ashley at his grandfather’s art exhibition and the government–enterprise symposium Jeffery attended…
His father might have known she was Burke’s student long ago.
However, if she were only Burke’s student, it wouldn’t be enough to explain this. Perhaps….
Thinking of Eternal’s two latest sensational projects, Matt suddenly understood everything.
He looked at her, not knowing what to say.
Ashley looked calm and quiet, neither arrogant nor impetuous. Judging from her appearance alone, he couldn’t believe that she, at such a young age, had achieved such remarkable accomplishments.
The silence stretched until they finally settled at a cafeteria table.
Matt asked, “How long will you be at the base this time?”
“I’m not sure, it depends on my teacher,” Ashley said. Remembering their last meeting was two or three months ago, she added, “Funny how we never cross paths outside–you must be buried in training drills 24/7, huh?”
Matt replied, “Yes, and pilots have limited vacation time.”
Matt didn’t have much time for his meal. After chatting with Ashley for a while, he left first.
Ashley and Matt met again two days later during a human–machine combat test.
The so–called human–machine combat was an air battle between an AI–controlled fighter jet and a fighter jet piloted by a human pilot.
After the test, Ashley collected the data and began modifying the algorithm and conducting a new round of data analysis based on the battlefield situation with some researchers.
When Matt came to her department, he saw her and the others busy at work.
It took Ashley a while to notice him.
Ashley nodded at him, and then buried her head back in her work.
Ashley
stayed at the base for about ten days before leaving.
She left at midnight and arrived home in the morning.
Back home, she turned on her phone and saw nearly twenty missed calls.
They were from Gabriel, Zark, Chase and Sam. Chase had even called her twice.
Ashley didn’t need to think too hard to guess why Sam and Chase called.
Gabriel was the first one who had called her, and he called her the most times.
Therefore, she called him back first.
Gabriel answered quickly. “Finally decided to pick up?”

“Yes,” Ashley said. “Anything happened? Is it resolved now?”
Gabriel said, “Yes, and yes.”

Ten days ago, in the evening, he went to the theater but didn’t see Ashley. He tried to contact her, but her phone was constantly unavailable. When he returned to the company on Monday, she wasn’t there either. He thought something had happened to her.
Later, he checked with Tim and found out she was dealing with a family emergency.
Since she was okay, he was relieved.
