Chase closed the car door, took Ashley’s umbrella from the driver, and turned back with smile.“Mr. Cooper, I thought you’d left.”
Jeffery knew Ashley was inside, but the tinted windows made it impossible to see her. He focused on Chase’s face.“Is Ms. Jones inside?”
“Yes, she twisted her ankle. I’m taking her to the doctor.”
“I’m free now and want to discuss some business matters with her. If you don’t mind, I’ll take her to the hospital.”
Chase smiled.“Are you sure? But she and I have something we need to talk about. Mr. Cooper, perhaps next time.”
Jeffery’s face darkened.
Chase said, “It’s windy here, and your coat is wet. Maybe you should go back to your car to rest.” Jeffery knew that whether Chase was interested in Ashley or not, he had no right to interfere. He nodded, glancing one last time at the backseat before leaving.
