He didn’t think much of it, assuming Ashley had gone to her family’s. Then, he remembered that she usually took Sam with her. However, Sam was here. She didn’t go to her family’s? Or was something wrong? He remembered what Justin said and knew something was off. He paused, but decided not to dig in.
The next morning, Chase said to Sam, “Your school enrollment is complete. You’ll go to school tomorrow morning.”

Before Chase could respond, his phone rang–it was his grandmother.
“I heard you’re back.”
“Yes.”
“Did Sam come back too?”
“Yes.”
“I miss him. Have dinner with me, Ashley, and Sam tonight.”
“Okay.”
“Where’s Ashley? Let me talk to her.”
“She’s not here.”
“Why? Don’t you

Chase remained silent.
Emily sighed.“Fine, I shouldn’t have asked.”
Chase softened his tone, changing the subject.“Did

Chase chuckled, calmly finishing his breakfast. Emily knew her grandson was headstrong. Their current marriage situation was already a compromise. She couldn’t push him too hard, even for his own good.
“See you tonight.” Chase said.
“Hmph!” She hung up angrily.
