(Till death do we part) Chapter 6

Serenity spent three hours burning her stuff. Then, she pulled a large box
from the bottom of a closet. It contained the birthday presents Jax had given her
for the past ten years. A love letter at fifteen. Crystal slippers at eighteen. A
diamond tiara at twenty. A custom–designed ring at twenty–two. Each gift
was unique. She packaged them up and listed them online— each for 9.99 dollars
with free shipping. These billions of dollars‘ worth of gifts were soon snatched
- up. She had them packed up, and was about to rest when the door burst open.
Jax stood there, soaked, his voice trembling, “Serenity, why did you sell those
gifts for $9.99?”
Serenity looked at him, who should have come back as soon as he could. She
calmly asked, “How did you know?”
“It’s trending online,” he said, and he hugged her, trembling. “Serenity, what
does it mean? Are you leaving me? Don’t leave me… What did I do wrong? I’ll
change, I swear. His voice cracked.
She looked away with a touch of sarcasm in her eyes. If he was so scared of
her leaving, why would he have an affair? Was he too confident that he could
hide it forever, or did he think she was too dumb to find out? She wondered what
his reaction would be when he saw her ‘corpse” at the wedding.
She pushed him away. “It’s not what you think. I just don’t like them anymore.

Jax was finally relieved. He squeezed her hand, swearing he hadn’t done
anything he shouldn’t.
“Then what are you worried about? It’s late. I should rest.”
She left. Jax’s heart pounded. He kept telling himself that they were getting
married and no accidents would happen.
- up.
But his unease remained. He stayed with her all night. At dawn, his phone lit
He glanced at Serenity, kissed her, then left quietly.
Serenity opened her eyes. She got a message from the clinic. They found a body similar to hers in the hospital morgue and had it prepped for the staged
death. They asked if she’d come to check it out.
In the morgue, Serenity saw a corpse whose shape and features were very similar to hers. It was a near–perfect replica. If she hadn’t been there, she’d have believed it was her. Everything was ready.
She walked out of the morgue. While passing the maternity ward, she stopped. Jax was supporting Rylee, who had a slight baby bump. His face was full of the joy of being a father.
