Serenity’s phone buzzed. It was a screenshot of the chat from Rylee.
Rylee sent Jax a picture of her sitting curled up on the floor in her maid’s outfit, her fingers fiddling with the ribbon around her neck, her eyes looking eagerly at the camera. Then, she said, “Dear Master, you have 20 minutes to come and open your gift.”
Jax replied, “Wait for me.”
Serenity bit her lip, closed her eyes, and turned off her phone. She’d thought she was past the pain after seeing those pictures. But the ache was relentless and suffocating.
That night, Serenity lay curled on the bed, unable to sleep. Her cell phone vibrated every hour until the next morning. Her chat with Rylee was full of
pictures of used condoms.
“He was with me all night. We literally tried every position. Even my arms

“Serenity, why are you crying?”
She had been crying?
Serenity slowly turned and touched her face. Tears streamed down her
cheeks. After a long silence, she forced a smile, bitter and strained.

He kissed her.“Serenity, I’m sorry I left you alone yesterday. As

She didn’t answer, but he took her silence as consent. He carried her out of
the room, carefully choosing her outfit, jewelry, and shoes.
At the auction, Jax splurged, buying everything just to make Serenity happy,
even though she showed little interest. His friends teased him.
“I was wondering who was so crazy. It’s you, Jax!”

“I wanted to get something for my grandpa’s birthday! Now I got nothing.”
“No wonder they say you’re the best fiancee! Jax, give us a chance in the
second half!”
Jax glanced at them, then peeled a lychee for Serenity. “Nope. Everything
tonight is for my Serenity.”
They groaned, knowing that they were doomed to go home empty–handed.
Jax smiled, feeding Serenity the lychee.
Serenity shook her head.“No appetite. Keep it yourself.”
Then, the auction continued. Suddenly, the door opened. A woman in a
black dress came in. Jax stiffened. It was Rylee.
