My arms tightened around Cooper, his small body warm and peaceful against me, completely unaware of the growing tension around us. Every nerve in my body was on high alert as my eyes darted around the dimly lit parking lot, searching for any more signs of danger.

“Titus…” His name slipped from my lips before I even realized it, my voice barely above a whisper. It wasn’t my own life [ feared for—it was my children. I couldn’t let anything happen to them.

Titus stepped in front of me, his stance protective, his arm still stretched out as a barrier between us and the unknown. threat. “Just stay behind me,” he said, his voice low and steady. “I will protect all of you, no matter what the cost”

A shiver ran down my spine.

Those words sounded like a promise. A vow. But something about them unsettled me. As if he already knew that whatever was about to happen wouldn’t end well.

A deep, sinking feeling settled in my stomach.

Then, without looking at me, he gave an order that made my blood run cold.

“Get the keys from my pocket, Sage.”

I blinked. “What?” My voice wavered as I turned to him in confusion. “I don’t know how to drive!”

“Put it in drive and step on the gas,” he instructed, his tone leaving no room for argument.

“As if it’s that simple!” I snapped, panic creeping into my voice.

“You don’t have much of a choice, Sage.” He finally turned to look at me, his eyes sharp and unwavering. “You have to. If you want to get out of here alive, if you want them to get out of here alive-” he gestured toward the kids, his expression grim, “-then you’re going to have to do exactly what I say.”

He was serious. Deadly serious.

I swallowed hard, my pulse pounding in my ears.

My fingers trembled as I reached into Titus‘ pocket, my pulse racing. The cool metal of the car keys met my fingertips, and I yanked them out, gripping them tightly in my palm.

“Good,” Titus murmured. His eyes never left the darkness ahead of us, his body tense like a coiled spring, ready to strike. “Now, listen carefully. Get in the driver’s seat, start the engine, and be ready to move the moment I tell you to.”

I swallowed hard, nodding even though my entire body was screaming at me to panic. I wasn’t ready for this. I wasn’t ready for any of this.

But I didn’t have a choice.

I pressed the car key, and the car immediately made a sound, signaling that it was already unlocked.

Still looking over my shoulder as I moved swiftly to the passenger’s side. My hands fumbled with the handle before I finally yanked the door open and slid Cooper into the seat. Titus did the same and put Harper beside Cooper in the back seat.

Once they’re settled, I immediately slid into the driver’s seat. I put on the seatbelt and started the engine.

right. Remember that. Sage,” he said through the window. “Keep the kids safe. No matter what happens

The way he said it, the weight behind his words, sent a bolt of dread through me.

“What do you mean? Why don’t you get inside? Let’s go, Titus!” My voice was barely above a whisper, but he was already stepping away

“Titus-”

“Lock the doors, Sage,” he ordered firmly, his back to me now. “And don’t stop driving.”

Panic surged through me, a sharp wave of fear that made my stomach twist painfully.

No. No, no, no.

My fingers clenched around the steering wheel. My heart hammered against my ribs.

“No!” My voice came out harsher than I intended, raw with desperation. “I’m not leaving you here! Get inside, Titus!”

He didn’t turn around.

“If I come with you, they won’t stop following us,” he said, his voice eerily calm despite the chaos brewing around us. “It will only put all of you in danger.”

My grip on the wheel tightened. “And you think staying behind will stop them? You think I can just drive away and pretend you’re not-

“Yes,” he cut me off, finally turning his head just enough for me to see the side of his face. His jaw was clenched, his eyes burning with determination. “Because if you’re not here, I can handle them without worrying about you and the kids.”

My breath hitched.

Damn him..

Damn his stupid, reckless, self–sacrificing ways.

Titus took a step forward, his back still shielding us from the approaching figures. The shadows loomed closer, creeping into the dim glow of the streetlights, their presence thick with malice.

“Titus,” I whispered, my voice barely audible over the roaring in my ears.

He sighed, running a hand through his hair before glancing back at me, just for a second. “Trust me, Sage,” he said softly. “I’ll find you.”

I swallowed against the lump in my throat.

My fingers tightened around the steering wheel, knuckles turning white as I prepared to take off. My heart pounded so hard I could hear the blood rushing in my ears.

But before I could even step on the gas, dark figures emerged from the shadows, closing in fast.

Rogues.

Their glowing yellow eyes pierced through the darkness, their snarls sending chills down my spine. The hair on the back of my neck stood on end as they circled us, their massive bodies moving like predators cornering their prey.

Titus didn’t hesitate.

Chapter 164

cracked, muscles stretched, and within seconds, his massive form towered over the car. Midnight–black fur bristled under the moonlight, his glowing crimson eyes locked onto the enemies before him.

The first werewolf lunged.

Titus met him midair, his claws slicing through flesh like a hot knife through butter. Another one came from the side, but Titus swung his arm, sending the rogue flying into a tree with a sickening crack.

He fought with everything he had, shielding us from the wolves who dared to get close. But there were too many.

Too damn many

Panic clawed at my chest as I frantically looked around the car, searching for anything–anything–that could help him.

And then I saw it.

At the front trunk, barely hidden beneath some supplies, was a gun.

My breath caught.

I scrambled to grab it, my fingers shaking as I pulled it out. The cold metal felt heavy in my hands, but when I checked the magazine, my heart leaped.

Silver bullets.

I had one foot out of the car when a tiny, trembling voice stopped me in my tracks.

“Mommy, what’s happening? What are those?”

Harper’s big, frightened eyes locked onto mine, her small hands gripping the seat so tightly that her knuckles turned white.

I swallowed hard, forcing myself to stay calm.

“Sweetie, I need both of you to stay in the car no matter what, okay?” My voice was firm but gentle–I needed them to listen.

“Mommy, I’m scared,” Harper whimpered, her lip trembling.

“Me too,” Cooper admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. His arms wrapped protectively around his sister, his tiny frame shaking.

My heart clenched.

I crouched down, cupping both of their faces, pressing a quick kiss on each of their foreheads. “I know, sweetheart. I know. But listen to me, Mommy will protect you. I won’t let anything bad happen to you. I promise.”

Their little heads bobbed in shaky agreement, though the fear in their eyes remained.

I forced a reassuring smile and ran my fingers through their hair one last time before pulling away.

Then, with a deep breath, I turned and jumped out of the car.

My hands tightened around the gun.

The moment my feet hit the ground, I raised the weapon and took aim.

One shot. The first rogue collapsed.

The moment the first shot rang through the air, Titus‘ head snapped in my direction. His glowing red eyes locked onto mine, burning with fury. He let out a deafening growl that sent shivers down my spine.

Chapter 164

His massive form towered over the rogue wolves, his dark fur bristling as his sharp claws tore through one of them like paper. But despite his ruthless attack, his gaze flickered toward the car, toward the small figures curled up in the backseat.

Even in his monstrous lycan form, I could see the worry in his eyes.

You are really stubborn, Sage!” His voice thundered through my mind, laced with frustration.

I gritted my teeth, firing another shot before answering him through our mind link

“I can’t leave you like this. Going to your funeral isn’t part of my itinerary,” I shot back.

Titus let out a low snarl, but he didn’t argue further.

Instead, he turned back to the battle, moving faster, more aggressively, as if trying to end this fight before I could get hurt.

But there were too many of them.

For every rogue he tore apart, another lunged at him.

And I–I was nowhere near strong enough to take on an entire pack of bloodthirsty werewolves.

My hands were shaking. My body was aching from the impact of dodging attacks.

Then it happened.

I never saw it coming.

One moment, I was taking aim at a wolf charging toward me. Then, a sudden, searing pain tore through my back.

I gasped.

Sharp claws dug into my flesh, burning like fire as they raked across my skin.

My knees buckled. The gun slipped from my grip.

A choked cry escaped my lips as I felt warm blood trickle down my spine.

Titus roared.

I can feel my body slowly ascending to oblivion. I was about to close my eyes when I heard tiny voices calling out for me.

“Mommy!” they both shouted in unison.

“No, please. Stay in the car,” I whispered, my breath shaky as I fought against the darkness threatening to pull me under. My limbs felt heavy, my body weak from blood loss, but I couldn’t give in to the pain.

Not now.

Not when my children were in danger.

With every ounce of strength I had left, I forced myself up, my legs wobbling beneath me.

“Harper, Cooper, get back in the car!” I shouted, my voice filled with desperation.

My eyes widened in shock as I turned toward him.

A deep, guttural growl rumbled from his small chest, unlike anything I had ever heard from him before. His usually bright blue eyes burned a fiery red, his tiny body trembling as his fingers curled into fists.

Then–before my very eyes–his nails extended into razor–sharp claws, his delicate features twisting in pain as thick, silver- white fur sprouted from his skin.

My breath caught in my throat.

He was shifting.

But that was impossible.

Werewolves–no matter how strong their bloodline–weren’t supposed to shift until they turned eighteen. Yet here was my little boy, barely ten, his body already beginning to transform.

“Cooper, no!” I gasped, my heart pounding in terror. I knew how painful the first shift could be and how dangerous it was for someone so young.

But he wasn’t stopping.

He let out a strangled cry, his body convulsing as his transformation accelerated. His bones cracked, reshaping into something inhuman, something powerful.

And then, as if sensing his pain, Harper stepped forward.

I turned to her, my breath catching once more.

Her small hands trembled at her sides, her chest rising and falling rapidly. But it wasn’t fear I saw in her—no, it was something else entirely.

Her crimson–red eyes glowed like embers, swirling with something dark, something ancient. And then, as if the world itself was responding to her, the air around her shifted.

The battle raged on, the night air thick with the scent of blood and the sounds of snarls and growls.

Harper and Cooper, despite their newfound abilities, were struggling. Their inexperience made them vulnerable, their bodies unsteady as they tried to use powers they didn’t fully understand.

Cooper, still halfway through his painful transformation, launched himself at one of the rogues, his small but growing claws swiping wildly. He landed a blow, but it wasn’t enough to take the rogue down. With a vicious snarl, the rogue retaliated, knocking him back with a powerful swipe of its paw.
