Chapter 9
In December, the company held a Christmas party.
Everyone in the company was looking forward to the opening song and dance performance, but suddenly, a video appeared on the big screen. It showed Ivan sneaking into my bedroom to steal the bracelet, and his shameless remarks on the phone were heard loud and clear by everyone in the
company.
With a composed smile, I took the microphone and stepped onto the stage, introducing myself.
“Hello everyone, I’m Molly, Ivan’s ex–girlfriend. I broke up with Ivan not because of financial issues, but because of character problems. Poverty isn’t a crime, I have money and I could support him, but when someone’s character is bad, it’s hard to fix.”
On the surface, he said he wanted to have a family with me and save money together, but in reality, he sold my gold bracelet and spent the money recklessly. He even accused me of obtaining money through improper means.”
“I want to emphasize here again, my money comes from legitimate sources.”
“This company is actually owned by my fatho After graduation, my dad let me come here to gain experience. I even asked my dad for a favor to let Ivan get a foot in the door, otherwise, with so many outstanding candidates interviewing at the same time, how would an ordinary person like him be chosen?”
Ivan’s expression shifted from disbelief to panic. He tried to come forward and grab my hand, but was pushed away by the nearby security guards.
“Molly, it’s not like that. I was misled by Daisy. I really care about you, Molly.”
I gave him a slight smile.
“Now, because of the rumors and slander issue, I’ve already reported it to the police. The law will hold all rumor–mongers accountable.”
“This time, I won’t reconcile with you.”
“Oh, by the way, those colleagues who joined in slandering me in the group chat, please go talk to HR after the Christmas party.”
Ivan was eventually fired by the company.
What he did had already spread in the industry, and now no company wants to hire him. He searched for work in vain for a long time, and could only take Daisy back to his hometown dejectedly.
But because he now has a criminal record, he can’t go to some formal companies. Even back in his hometown, he can only do manual labor.
After studying so hard for so many years, he finally had a decent job, only to end up like this.
To be honest, I can’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction.
Because all of this is the result of his own actions. If I wasn’t the daughter of the chairman, I might not even have had the right to stand on the Christmas party stage to clarify things for myself, and would just have been slandered and rumored about by him.
If it had been a more fragile girl, unable to bear the pressure of workplace rumors swirling about her, it wouldn’t be surprising if she thought about ending her life.
As for Ivan, the best outcome for him is to return to his original form, to be forever far away from his dreams of wealth, to become a social pariah.
As for Daisy, since she’s willing to accompany Ivan.
I respect her choice.
I sold my original house and, under my mom’s introduction, started to meet some boys who match our family’s status and have similar consumption
views.
Now, I’m ready to start the next chapter.
