Chapter 8
After this incident became an unspoken secret in the company, quite a few male colleagues started to make things difficult for me, both overtly and covertly
As the company’s legal counsel, although I didn’t need to have much contact with them in daily trivial matters, when sharing an elevator up and down, there would still be people occasionally making snide comments.
“This isn’t finding a boyfriend, it’s basically finding an ATM machine,”
Along with these inexplicable incidents becoming more and more frequent, Ivan and Daisy’s public displays of affection also increased.
egy day when Ivan was about to get off work, Daisy would be waiting downstairs. When they met, they would first have a big hug, followed by a passionate kiss,
During holidays, Daisy would specially order a bouquet of flowers to be delivered to Ivan’s office.
This made those male colleagues who liked to make sarcastic remarks about me even more energetic: “Indeed, there’s no comparison without contrast. Only after getting rid of a gold digging ex–girlfriend can one find true happiness.”
Ivan also spoke with half–truths, leaving room for endless imagination: “As far as I know, Molly’s family situation is quite ordinary. I really don’t know where she gets so much money to buy brand name bags. Sigh, although she has hurt me deeply, I would still feel sad if she really went down the wrong path.”
Very good.
Hearing these words, I was seething with anger, my jaw clenched tight. Originally, I just wanted to teach Ivan a lesson, but now all bets are off.
More and more people in the company started praising Ivan as a good man, and Ivan’s ego was inflating with each compliment.
He and Daisy rented a place right under my apartment building. Daisy would come to brag to me every now and then, saying that Ivan now cooks for her every day, and can make ordinary vegetables taste extraordinary.
I laughed, taunting her as if she were a naive puppy: “Is that so? Then it seems he doesn’t love you. Otherwise, why would he only give you vegetables to eat and not even buy you meat?”
“What do you know?” Daisy’s face turned red with anger: “Ivan is being considerate of me. The meat nowadays isn’t clean, eating vegetables is healthier.”
I shook my head. This lovesick fool was truly beyond help. These ridiculous excuses, she actually believed them.
The fact is, Daisy handed over all the money she earned from her job to Ivan. Ivan claimed he was saving it up, but in reality, he was living it up.
He would take clients to high–end restaurants, buy himself the latest designer suits, and even his shoulder bag had been upgraded to Nike.
As for Daisy, to fast–track their wedding savings, she was working two jobs every day. She had stopped using all skincare products and was only washing her face with water, because Ivan said it was better for her skin.
She also stopped buying new clothes, only wearing jeans and white T–shirts, because Ivan didn’t want other people to see her beauty.
Although I don’t like Daisy, she is still my cousin after all, so I tried to give her a few words of advice.
But who knew she would suddenly change her expression: “Molly, are you regretting it now and want to get back together with Ivan? Let me tell you, he can only be mine now.”
Well, so much for trying to be nice.
You two, I’ll just respect your choices and let you stay together forever.
